Daily Throwdown 15/16

Yesterday was probably one of the best ski days I've had. I was on my sticks from 9am to 9pm in total. Got to lap spirit for about 8 hours in wicked fun slushy conditions, got peer pressured by a child to do a Rodeo 5 and got it first try. Spring break confirmed! After that I headed over to Du Lac for some hot laps on the rope, about 30 minutes in the rope caught on fire and snapped. Speaking of snapped... I inspired Joe Johnson to snap his skis in half with finesse. Ended up just taking the chair and exploring the hill, ended up finding this cliff area where everyone got pretty sendy. One of the biggest cliffs I've ever dropped. Then to top it all off there was a slopeside concert by Brother Ali.

Long winded here but in all I'd take a rad midwest day like today over a day outwest anyday!

Tried my first backflip today and it didn't go well. I fucked up my neck pretty bad. My laptop broke so go to CalebTheKillian on Instagram if you wanna see it

Saw the vid, that was a tough one to watch. Get well soon bud! Hopefully you can get back on snow before it's all gone.

Last weekend was concluded with my first legitimate 2 pretz 4 on the down flat at Spirit, and she's on video! Skied at spirit tonight, shot photos for a few runs since it's been on my winter bucket list. While I was checking some shots I witnessed the most brutal overshoot I've personally seen, the guy took the speed of a 40ft jump into a 10 footer, pancaked to dead flat. He came out completely unscathed, even though his face left a 4 inch deep hole in the snow. I really wish I had gotten it on video.

I should be able to go before the snow is all gone and god damn that sounds brutal

Master Shredder was tight. I tried a full whirlybird and a quarter on to a rail.

Does anyone know of a place that's gonna have an airbag at some point? Would really like to use one

Buck hill hauls theirs out once in a while and more towards the end of the season. Grand ol time. It's cheaper on the last few days they have it out in the spring time.

It's March already. Things have flown by so quickly. The season end is approaching, the light at the end of the tunnel is a train. Hopefully we can get the engineer to hit the brakes but it all depends on how he's feeling. #metaphors... Usually this last month is the best month of the season though, stoked for spring!

Trix so far this week: sw unatty lip which flows a lot nicer for me than my normal side. Also figured out a little back slide to fast slide action, but the fun one was a dramatic blind 2 off 100ft. It's a rush doing a blind 2 at whatever interplanetary speed you're traveling at the end of that thing.

Mt. Lacrosse's "park" setup has been the same since opening week...2 flat rails and a flat box. Would not recommend at the moment.

They do have a lot of little off trail parts right now though and there are quite a few little piles of snow you can get air off of around all over the place

Kindof a late response but I saw this while scrolling through this thread.

The "park setup" you speak of wasn't set up by any employee at Mt lacrosse, the only effort they put in was bringing the rails and box up to where the snow was. A few of my friends and I spent opening day actually setting up the rails, we had hardly anything to work with and thats why it was so bad. I've tried numerous times times to try to help them set up a better park, but they simply don't care.

Its just fucking annoying because they could actually have a decent park if they actually took suggestions from people who know how to actually set up parks.

So true man and I appreciate you guys for setting that up. It was a good setup considering it wasn't actually done by an employee. I really wish the Lax park crew would actually make a quality park for once and maintain it but I guess I'm asking for too much haha. Are you Jae?

Nah I'm Mathias, you probably don't know me. Yeah the "park crew" at mtlax is pretty sad, hopefully in the future things will improve.

I think I saw you in a mt lax video but yeah I'm going to college next year and I'm probably going to Wausau so I never have to worry about a bad park haha.

Before last week it seemed like winter was still in full swing in Minnesota, I got to hit Colorado over spring break and now that I'm back there's no snow and nearly every hill has shut down or has one weekend left. Spirit has 3 days left. Winter didn't hit until almost January and not even two weeks into March it's over. I'm incredibly confused and ready to cuss out mother nature. All we can do now is hope for late spring dumps... and hesher sesh!

Troll on saturday was so fun. None of the homies were up for it so I just sent it alone. I got four hours of prime tshirt weather spring skiing just in my own world and then another hour and a half of driving alone each way which I really have come to appreciate. Got a few new tricks but im not up on tha lingo so idk wut they were.

Do it mid may.

Damn..Wish I could go to troll on Saturday. I was hoping for sunday. Anyone know why they are only open sat? I was assuming it was because they will only have valhalla open and don't want to bring the employees in for two days. `

I think it's just crew wars on saturday and nothing else is open, sounds like it's because of the lack of snow.

Just sucks because I can't make it on saturday.. oh well

Missed my alarm for crew wars but it was all made up for by some righteous slush at spirit! Impulsively decided to try a flat 3 in the pipe and somehow it worked, also tried getting back at the blind 6, my 3rd try resulted in broken pride and really good slam. Tomorrow's forecast is looking even better!

Hate to look like a goon with the double post but the stoke is too high! Finally tried going upside down on the showtime kicker at spirit, went horribly wrong the first time but no injuries. Super stoked to say that I finally put the cork 7 to my feet, first try! Although terrifying, it's a very fun trick.

Such a killer weekend with such a high amount of send throughout by so many people. Everyone keep at it and never let the season die!

1806 out

Are you riding Line Chronics in that pic? If so, how do you like them? I just ordered me-self a pair.

I love them. Except for the durability. It took me a few days to get used to riding them but once I did they were definitely the most fun skis I've ridden. Currently they are looking pretty ugly but they still ride!

Where'd they break?

the edges underfoot? Did you dull them at all before hitting rails?

Dulled them like crazy but they are very thin edges to begin with. Add that with the 100ft rail at spirit that cooks your skis to 400°+ and you get yourself many many edge cracks.

Friday last week it was really fun. Not much of a base if you go into the trees behind the rocky top chair. (thanks john)

It could change quite a bit though in a week.

The snow is pretty much what you can expect from spring skiing. Giants usually lasts longer and it's generally colder so chances are it'll be pretty hard in the mornings. I wouldn't recommend ducking into the trees at this point in the season. The garmisch park on far skier's right is straight fire though!

Yeah homie you talking park or all mountain?

We just got 7 inches more coming everyone get out there and shred some pow! Drive safe though!

Mostly park

I'll probably hit some other runs though, especially with the fresh snow

Meh the park has been quite the disappointment this year. Theres like 6 rails up plus 2 jumps

Landed my first 5 at spirit on Friday! I was throwing 3's for a while off the side hit across from the continental rail and got the 5 around on my 2nd attempt at it. I had to hike out b/c they called last run after my first attempt, totally worth it and a great way to end my last day at spirit (before hesher sesh that is)
