Learned how to land switch out of rails today. I guess this is the first rail trick I've ever learned (if it even counts as a trick)

In case anyone was unaware or if anyone cares, Coffee Mill wont be opening at all this year

Damn that's too bad! I've always loved Coffee Mill. What's the reasoning for not opening? Not enough snow?

Hit a rail that could have definitely resulted in a trip to the hospital if I fell off one side but luckily that fear kept me on the good side of it. There were a bunch of kids sledding and their parents were stoked on it! Shoutout to St. Paul moms and dads.

They would've lost money because they weren't open for the holidays

Hit the famed circus rail today. I was way too afraid to hit it lip on so I just went unatty which was terrifying (since the biggest rails I've hit unatty are poop tubes). Took forever but came out successful!

Mt. Lacrosse's "park" setup has been the same since opening week...2 flat rails and a flat box. Would not recommend at the moment.

They do have a lot of little off trail parts right now though and there are quite a few little piles of snow you can get air off of around all over the place

Landed backseat off the Tyrol Basin Green Zone "cliff" and smashed my hand on a tree. Broke my thumb and might have to get surgery :(

New Tyrol park setup is nice though

I feel you on that one, sent a cliff at Giants Ridge last year with not enough snow and sprained my thumb real bad. Heal up quick!

Thanks dude

I think for cliffs do you just have to pop hard and try to land with your weight forward? I think it just messed me up since the takeoff was sloped down kinda

It's different for each cliff but you definitely don't want to be too far forward and tomahawk. Landing backseat is usually a safe bet but it looks gross.

Learned nosebutter 270s on the other night and for some reason I tried it one footed and it worked. Has this ever been done before?

2 day battle with a very slow grind on a c-rail that bends about 150 degrees. I need to stick to easier handrails.

Sick video man. Where is that?

So Mt. Lacrosse closed the main lift today which only left 1 run open. This run was taken up entirely by racers. There was another run that didn't look open but it didn't say it was closed. It was basically a mixture of cat tracks, powder, and some wild grass. We started going down this run and no one really cared. Ski patrol and the owner/manager even looked at us go down it and they didn't say anything. Anyways we decided to make a jump on this run and the whole thing worked out really great. There was also this really small cliff/rock ledge that we could hit and it was all powder there, so technically I hit my first cliff today. I also did a 3 off of a jump that was about 6 inches tall on the bunny hill lol

I wanted to film it because it was actually pretty awesome, honestly, but my gopro wouldn't turn on after half of a run. Does anyone else have this problem? My friend has one too and it does the same thing. I bought this thing because I figured a product like this wouldn't be this popular if it wasn't reliable but I was clearly wrong. This is the 3rd time this has happened and I've only tried to use it 6 times. Any input?

TL;DR: Did fun shit on an ungroomed run. Mt. Lacrosse's ski patrol and owner are both super chill. Wtf is wrong with my camera

It could be the cold temperatures. It really messes with the battery life on just about all cameras. If you've been having this problem on days where it's under 5-10 degrees you've got nothing to worry about. You can temporarily fix it by taking the battery out and putting it on the warmest part of you groin for two minutes, just take one for the team.

lol and one of the times it was at granite when it was like 40 degrees but the rest of the time it was colder than balls

really cold frozen balls

That's been my life lately. From my phone to camera batteries, it's for a greater cause. Spirit's setup is pretty fun and they finally got the fat tube out, stoked to get my first unnatty 2 pretz 2 on her! I'm trying to get all 4 swaps in one hit but I'm debating if it's even possible.

Currently at Lutsen. I'm happy to say that there was about a foot of powder out there yesterday but I am sad to say that one of my bindings exploded when I landed switch

People fucking warned me about these stupid squires. RIP my bindings/brakes

Oh yeah and here's a little line that I liked

Lutsen's tree runs are so sick! Hoping to make it up there on a serious dump day if we ever get one. Meanwhile I found some burly lines at spirit, including a 20ft into a 10ft. Sent a little pillow thingy from the side into the 10 footer, felt great.

Yeah the amount of random amazing off-trail spots in the 2nd and 3rd day was insane

get ittt! Past few days I've been exploring spirit and found the mountain bike trail called calculated risk, super fast paced, jumps, drops, everything. Went back into the park and put down sw 2 to kfed and bfed for the first time, temps are cold now but the hype for riding is hot!

Got a switch on front 2 in trolls baby park on Friday, pretty stoked to hit a rail backwards even if it was a tiny flat bar!

In other news, slammed on my hip and bruised it super bad so now my right thigh is like 3 inches thinker then my left one lol. Been icing it tho so it hopefully won't keep me out too long.

Hell yeah! Hitting rails switch feels great! Spirit's down flat was sticking hard but I put a lil wax on her then claimed a trick I'd never done before for my first hit and got it! 2 on front swap pretz 4 for the curious ones.

Hit some out of bounds pillow lines after and ski patrol threatened to clip my pass, he's just jealous that I got a hold of some freshies. Later I battled right 2 pretz 4 for 40 minutes hiking past close (didn't get it because I suck), left when they shut the lights off. It was a wild day!

I'm don't try hard enough. But that's another story. Hit Spirit tonight expecting the big jumps to be pure garbage as they were on the test weekend. To my pleasant surprise they are the best I've ever seen them and the biggest I've ever seen them. They're all 40ft tables (except the last but it'll probably change) and they have a wicked amount of hangtime. I peed myself spinning them for the first time. But yeah... they're the biggest jumps I've seen at spirit, and I couldn't be happier! Jump jocks in Colorado would be jealous.

The 3rd jump at spirit is always the smallest. Keeps you on your toes man

It's almost a little step down right now so it's like past years but you have to send it deep every time (landing is pretty short on it too), I told some guys on the park crew that they should push the knuckle higher and back just a touch. If they do that it'll be the smallest but it'll be perfect. They made them jumps pretty much impossible to overshoot unless you do the sitting tuck thingy.

Took a few laps through the jumps last night as well, after a few laps I was really digging them. I think the 2nd one is a little smaller then the first, but one or two carves in between jumps never hurt anyone. So far, pretty stoked on 'em!

Hell yeah! The gap is definitely shorter on #2, I was talking about the hang time on that bad boy. The knuckle of the first is getting chewed up pretty quick from people coming up short but I'm sure it'll get patched up. They were terrifying this morning with some classic Duluth flat light.

Mt. Lacrosse put an AMAZING rail out a couple of days ago. I've never seen it there before but it looked pretty old. It was long, circular, not sticky, set up perfectly, and sleek (haha sex jokes). I'll upload a pic of it or something once I go through my camera files

Stoked for ya! Slick rails are the best. Spirit's always stay pretty sweet. Second run today I got both way 2 pretz 2 in a line, happy to win that battle since I've been trying that line for a few days now.

Also Spirit's jump builder must have been more than a little drunk today, jump #2 was a victim. Showtime looks like something out of a 2003 super park, the drop on the step down is actually bigger than the gap. I got faith that it'll be fixed soon though! The rail setup is looking primo prime in the big park. A-frame on a bank!

Wow back surface swaps are super fun, just learned those last night. Finally get proper front swaps back, too! They're a little janky, but I'll hey I'll take what I can get.

This thread is a claim machine amigo. While we're on claims- I was riding Giants Ridge and did a switch 3 off their 10ft money booter and some lil kids ask me to do a 7. I've never done a 7 in a park and I hardly have switch 5s. I ignored these two facts and attempted switch 7 for the children. Sorta kinda got it first try but no questions asked on the second, extremely happy.

That is sick! Switch 7 is definitely an awesome one, I think it's easier on the body than normal 7.

Yeah that's pretty much all I do here.

Speaking of claims I did my first front 2 a couple of weeks ago. I had to do it on a box because the other rail there was so sticky that night that my skis would eject right when I hit it (seriously). Not sure if I should blame the rail, bindings, or both

Learned how to hit jumps switch this weekend, working on my switch 3's on spirits small jumps, also cleared there z rail for the first time today and got a front 2 out of it.

Built a little lip off a wall near mill city last night with some friends, then sent it deep into the powww #kowabunga

Freeride World Tour: Minneapolis.

Threw a big 3 the other day and I finally looked trough my clips so I have video evidence of the rail I was bragging about above (8 seconds in)

Brohomiea had some pretty awful conditions but it was still hands down the best skiing I've had this year. I was able to find some of the secret stashes after a little work and exploring, the place is huge. I also nearly broke my neck but that's a story that I'm going to try and forget about.

thats the point of bohemia. it sucks ass which makes it fun. for some reason its hyped as some super sick backcountry place, when in reality the whole point is to try not to die and climb trees and shit.

I landed my first separated shoulder last Saturday at troll. Pretty stoked, it felt so great to finally land it

lel, for real though, I stress to everyone to keep your hands at your sides at all times after that one.

Learned 540s and 360 criticals the other day but that's not why I'm here. I'm here to tell a story about horrible bindings.

But yeah my brakes were ripped out of one of my Marker Squires about a month ago when I landed switch. Today, the same thing happened to the other ski. I'm not falling and my skis arent ejecting so I don't understand. Are all Marker bindings this shitty? Anyways I went into the shop to see what they could do and they put new brakes onto both of them for FREE. I went back out and bent one of the brakes again landing switch. Wtf is going on.

Marker bindings get the job done but in the rest of the field they aren't too great. You got the squires which are meant for kids and they are made of materials less durable than legos. You should try to bend your brakes up towards your boot a little so they don't catch in the snow because they're probably hanging over the ski a little. I'm hopping off the marker train next year for sure.

In fact just last night my brake got ripped clean out of my ski, screw holes are 100% stripped. Luckily I got a shop to find new screws and epoxy them in. Marker bindings require a lot of maintenance.

For skiing news: spirit just set up their 100 footer! It's pretty steep and you get going to about 30 at the end but it's wicked fun! Got her second run today. My edges are going to blow up because of it but it's worth it.

Yeah I only have 1 working screw onb oth bindings so they're barely staying in too. I will most definitely be getting looks next year

I've done nothing, but the legendary Jernt absolutely blew my mind with tonight. Honestly in the top 3 of the craziest things I've seen in person on skis. I'll let him do the story telling though!

wow, thanks 1806 for the intro. Well first things first; long time reader first time poster to the daily throwdown...

The challenge was set, one foot the hundred footer. I have imagined this and attempted it for a couple of years. Honestly a couple of years. This rail is set nice this year, Spirit's park is very nice this year! But back to the story, only 3 of us were in for the challenge and second run at it for the night, got it! The only thing that stoked me up more was when I got it 2 times in a row!! I nailed the turkey with a 180 out and then the 4th time kind of ran out of excitement. I started to realize that once everyone else figures out how easy it is, it really won't be a claim. Ended up getting the hundred footer 5 times in a row on one foot. I then moved on to the down flat. That was enjoyable too.

I will say the real claim and the true legend happened on Monday night when Mr. Evan Sheff went 2 pretz 2 on the hundred footer. That is no lie, 2 pretz 2......
