I got a concushin the other day and I dont know how long I should stay off the mountain. Any ideas??

when i got mine i stayed off the mountian that night but the next day i was back out i just took it easy for a day or 2.

a doctor will tell u that u shouldnt ski a fiull week after your symptoms ex. headaches, naseua, dizzyness, etc all go away. you can get serious brain damage if u dont take time off from something like skiing if u have a bad concussion. i was knocked out for 5 minutes, had headaches for a week and couldnt concentrate in school for about two weeks and i didnt ski for two weeks. you definielty should be hitting jumps and trying new and big shit, but u could cruise around. if youre just skiing an icey mountain (which is the case if youre in the east now) then its not worth the risk at all, take some time off. but if your mountain is getting snow then hey go skiing, just dont huck yourself.

Warning: Dont try and spell for at least a week after you get a concussion!

Haha, but seriously, I would take it easy, just in case, for like a week...

It depends, how long were you unconscience? under a minute you can ski the next day just no jumps for like 4 or 5, 1-10 take at least 3-4 days off, 10-30 take at least a week and a half off, and don't jump for another week after that, if you were out more than half an hour, go see a doctor right away because you may have way worse problems. It is always in your benefit to go get a brain scan from the doctor, so you should go do that and see what he says.

Those number are terribly incorrect and I hope to god that if you were unconscious for 10-30 minutes you would go to the hospital. Don't listen to this terrible advice from someone with less medical knowledge than a janitor.

getting a second concussion after the first one hasn't fully "healed" can be reallyyy dangerous man,if you hear of football players dying it's usually because they got a 2nd concussion before the first one healed

it also depends on how severe it was. if it wasnt that bad, i would give it time, maybe a couple weeks, but you should consult a doctor

here is what my doc said:

1 week off

2nd week easy skiing

3rd week totally healed

I would take atleast 5 days

I hit my head pretty good at kicking horse. I was wearing a helmet, and still ended up with a big bump. I don't think I was unconcious, but I did feel sick to the stomach for awhile. Figured it would be wise to call it a day.

Does that sound like a concusion? I had really wild dreams the next two nights.

the only way to know if it was an actual concussion is by getting a brain scan, a concussion is your brain bleeding because it hit the side of your head, so the only way to know is to scan your head...

considering the first three people said you can ski the next day I would not take any advice in this thread too seriously and ask a doctor.

This advice came from my doctor when I got my concusion.

Run on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes, if you don't get a headache at all, do it again the next day and if there's still no headache you're good to go.

Concussions are serious stuff man, if you hit your head again while it's still injured you could end up with permanent brain damage

no, completely wrong. If you are under 21 25, you should do any contact sports for 2 weeks due to second impact syndrome or some shit. PRetty much you hit your head, your brain swells up and goes wack and you die. If it was a bad concussion you shouldnt watch tv listen to music do anything, for a solid three days until the headaches go away, see a doctor, it will get you out of alot of school work which is legit

Since I am taking sports medicine and have treated a concussion before, listen to me.

First, I have to ask you, When you hit your head were you at all unconscious? because if you were, then you need to be out for 2 weeks after being asymptomatic, which in layman terms is after having no symptoms, after you feel normal again. If not, then you should be good for one week after asymptomatic.

all your info is completely wrong, quit pollutinng NS with your shit. One, you can take an impact test to see if you have a concussions, a simple computer test that measures reaction speed, memory, ect. Second, if you were knocked out for more that a minute its very serious. After most people get a concussion they are held in the hospital for 24 hours. For a minor concussion you can get severe nerve damage. Once you get a concussion you are pretty much kept bed ridden for a good three days intill all major symptoms go away, and after that you have another 2-3 weeks of recovery then another 3 days off walking an running before you should even start playing sports. Concussions heal differently for everyone but these are the basic rules one should follow

3 weeks ago as of tomorrow I got a bad concussion. 3 weeks prior to that i got a minor concussion. I'm not supposed to ski for the rest of the season or play baseball, or even run currently, because if i get any more brain trauma soon there's a good chance it will be permanent. I wasnt even knocked out for long at all for this most recent concussion, from the video it looks like i was out for maybe 5 seconds, but i cant remember the entire day, except for some clips from when i was in the hospital towards the end of my stay that night, and some clips from the way home that night.

Concussions are serious stuff, dont take it lightly, it's better to take some time off than to be retarded.

Some things that are tell-tales of a concussion are, nausea (obviously), dizziness, not being able to focus on things well (vision-wise). And things that let you know there's still swelling are head aches after the injury, and being photophobic, which basically means your eyes are hyper-sensitive to light. I'm still photophobic after 3 weeks, so im still taking it easy.

That sucks man...concussions are super fragile, that is probably why the second one was so bad. Yours sounds pretty bad though if you still can't take alot of light after 3 weeks...the worst one I had I was unconscious for a while but there wasn't much bleeding so I was good for most activity after a week and skiing in about 3 weeks...

Ya, thats what the problem was, 2 so close together, even though the first one wasnt really bad at all. The photophobic deal is getting better though, like for the first week and a half or so after it, it hurt so much when it was sunny out, with all the light reflecting off the snow, and now It's not really painful, it's just uncomfortable. Really bummed im missing spring skiing though, cause i was having a really good season.

last time i got a pretty mild concussion, I: drove a lot, had good head poundin sex, took a fat nap, slept a lot, skied the next day, day after that, etc etc.

livin on the edddddggee
