Colorado vs. Utah???

Co by far utah is ok but colorado gets great snow and has amazing parks. where mormons run utah turning it into a shit whole.....
 
Im not too sure what pass you are talking about. There are a few different passes you can buy. One a colorado pass. you get to ski at breck, keystone, abasin unlimited with no blackout dates. also you can ski vail and beaver creek 10 days with blackout days. Its like $400 i tink. now they have a pass called the epic pass, its unlimited vail, beaver creek, breck, keystone, abasin and the othr resort in cali that vail reasorts owns for like five sometihng. with no blackouts. unlimited skiing.
 
usually, although this year definitely wasn't normal, colorado's season lasts longer, is cheaper, and has more good resorts in a close area. but utah usually gets more snow in a short time which just means more pow
 
Colorado is cheaper, because you can get the epic pass and ski everywhere. To ski everywhere in utah you have to buy like 7 passes. But, Utah gets way more snow, and park city is just as good for park, so they are pretty similar in pros and cons.
 
But seriously, if school considerations are not involved, go to Utah. Solitude or Altabird. I-70 sucks some pretty serious donkey balls. At least being based in SLC not EVERYONE is going in the exact same direction. And it snows 150" more a year. And the terrain is better. A' course, ya gotta deal with Altards giving you an attitude about how their mountain has no attitude, though. But that's easy: just turn up your headphones on the lift, and don't beater on the traverses.
 
im sure half the kids talking shit on utah can't even buy a drink and dont know what the fuck there talking
about. Utah has the best snow you will ever ski. PC has a epic park and canyons has a dope one to. Plus because of the mormons utah is way less crowded then CO. All the seven resorts are 40 minute drive from slc, cheap rent to.
 
i-70 is going to be even worse next winter. Look in the regionals under colorado. Click in "fuck you denver water" it explains it all
 
Utah, by far.

Colorado is sick IF you want to ski a dope park, but only park.... and that's only really sick if you live in Summit County. The drive from boulder or denver is fucking ridiculous. And, the scene in Boulder is fuckin stupid in my opinion. There are a few kids who slay, and are there because they love to ski, but a lot of the kids i've met are just tools.

Utah. I live in SLC, go to school, work 20 hours a week, and still ski 6 days a week. You can go to class, pick a friend up at the airport, go skiing, come back, hit a handrail all in a day. The BC access if fuckin absurd here. You park at Alta, and anywhere you go is nothing but jump spots. All easy to hike to, etc. Oh, and all with the 500 inches of the greatest snow on earth.

mormons? they don't bother me at all. Beer in CO is 3.2 in a lot of places.

In Alta and Snowboard you have to get up early and RUN and wait in line and RUN again to get fresh lines. Powder is turned into moguls in a matter of 30-40 minutes. I hate needing to rush in order to get good skiing. It's really annoying. And these people rushing to the pow are really nasty and not chilled at all.

This is me, on a weekday in January, first in line headed to Devil's Castle at Alta:

And don't tell me "if you know the right spots" because I was with locals who live and work in Alta and I know how fast things get tracked.

Don't get me wrong stuff like Wildcat is some of the funnest skiing I've ever done and the snow is pretty sweet...... but the snow is the same in Colorado!! People take life so much easier in Colorado and you can shred freshies all day long. It seemed far less crowded and you have a lot more space. Utah is a far cry from back home in Switzerland where no one hikes and you can hike 10 minutes to fresh bowls 1-2 weeks after the last dump.

My impression after a month in both states was that Colorado gets just as good snow, but the skiing is a lot more varied, you have more options, and resorts were a lot more fun. I liked Park City a lot though, but that resort is basically Colorado as well.
 
I don't see how closing the damn dam road will really effect I-70 that much. Not many commuters get off in silverthorn and drive it to frisco to get to breck. It sucks for the people who live there tho.
 
i guarantee all these people that are saying, "COLORADO FER SURE, UTAH HAS MORMONS LOL" have never met a mormon in their life. maybe 1 or 2. most of the mormons i know are chill, nice people, and most of them i did not even know that they were mormon until someone told me.
 
guys this thread must be done. there are about 1000000000000000 other co vs ut threads colorado wins em all.

colorado gets just as good snow, has better parks, better access, now you can buy liquer on sundays, has a trillion resorts, you can get up at noon hung over and still find some freshies...somewhere, and man the terrain in colorado is off the charts. colorado has no attitude

 
I'm from Philadelphia and wanted to go out west for college so I picked UC Boulder, I did one year there and transferred to University of Utah.

Colorado is sick but there was a bunch of stuff that drove me nuts and ultimately made me transfer. Living in Boulder it takes forever to get to the good resorts, and on the weekends the I-70 Traffic reminded me of being back in Philly. I have sat on I-70 3-4 hours many times to get to Breck and A Basin. In Utah its 20-30 minutes to any of the BCC or LCC resorts. Sure the canyons close sometimes but in my 4 years that stopped me three times. Snow quality is a big factor, whoever said snow in CO is just as good your are nuts. Utah gets 40% more snow than CO and the snow has way less water content, Utah snow is statistically the lightest snow in the country. The difference in Snow is noticable, big time? CO I feel has some better terrain but Utah isn't far behind at all. As for crowds in Utah, thats only at the Bird and Alta. Solitude is usaully empty and Brighton is full of snowboarders who can't traverse to the goods, you can score stases days after a storm there. Both state rule for skiing but for me Utah won.

 
dude are you really comparing the the lines a alta and snow bird on a busy day to the lines at Keystone, Break, Copper, etc on busy days.. alta and the bird will alway win. Plus you can go to brighton or solitude if you really have a problem and never wait more then then ten minutes ever. On top of that you can drive the same amount of time it takes to drive to most CO resorts from denver and go to snow basin or powder mountain were there is no such thing as lines no matter when.
 
haha weekends and holidays getting out of lcc.....forget it. this year people would leave at 4:30 and not be home until 8, thats to go like 15 miles. then come back up and wait in the morning then wait again at night. then you wait at the base when the road is closed, just knowing come 9:15 the lifts open anyways. lcc is brutal. but there was that one morning 15 inches fell between the snowreport (6am) and lift opening at (9am)15 inches in 3 hours. 15 inches nobody else in utah saw.

alta got 300 more inches than any resort in colorado, except SW

colorado snowpack is dangerous

colorado gets 1 foot stroms

switzerland gets 6 inch snowstorms

alta gets FEET FEET FEET

moguls didnt form in alta until april

every resort in utah is different from the other colorado is all the same trees or no trees.

and you obviously dont know the right spots because you can get pow whenever you want in utah

utah was so deep at the end of january people were getting lost, losing gear, and forgot about real life.

if you dont want to rush dont ski inbounds.....what do you expect from the powder mecca of the WORLD

 
Colorado has had one good year in the last ten. The resorts there suck ass unless your going to a park.

Utah has great snow with some good lift access. The people are really fucking wierd and that does matter after spending enough time there.

I would never live in either destination. The sledding sucks in both. They both have a continental snow pack. I perfer a coastal snow pack.

The sledding and resort skiing around Baker is great. The sledding and resort skiing around Sqauw, Sugar Bowl and Kirkwood are good as well.

Other than that I try and spend time in Canada. Its way better up there.

 
well if ur going to boulder in co to ski i dont really think thats a good idea its far away from the resorts and you could just go to western state and be the same distance but have crested butte to ski as well. then u can get the burlyest backcountry and still be able to make weekend trips to front range for your park fix
 
My whole family is from South Carolina, all I can say is mini plastic liquor bottles in the bars, haha. There are so many states with dumb liquor laws. Here in PA you can only buy beer from distributors in full cases only, unless your get take out from a bar and pay $10 a six pack.
 
I'm really just wondering about those who are saying CO has terrain superior to that of Utah. Can you really compare 30-degree bowls at Copper/Vail to the Wolvy Cirque? No. How about the epic groomers Granted there are some sweet pillow lines off Vail Pass (and even some faint reminiscences of them certain places inbounds), and there's the whole Silverton/Telluride/Crested Butte phenomenon (read: fucking incredible, particularly when the rocks at CB are covered), but I believe the controversy is between SLC and Bouldenver. SLC clearly wins, and I've been in CO for 3 years now. Conceding again that the Roaring Fork Valley has some pretty bad ass terrain, I still believe that the ability to access the same sort of stuff (10-40 ft'ers withOUT flat landings) within an hour of where you live beats it.
 
if you like paying 8.00 for a gallon of milk, and 4.00 for a lb of bananas, or 4.83 for a gallon of gas, and 1500 dollars in rent/month to live in the ghetto of LA, then sure, Cali is great.
 
all of you complaining about I70 and traffic hit it for an obvious reason. You leave at the same time as everyone else. I hit I70 at about 630-7, and never have a problem with traffic. And leave at 3 to avoid the 4 o'clock jam. The other problem you have, is that you only ski on weekends! If your even half way smart you can avoid the traffic. Yeah most of the people get wasted or don't want to wake up early. Whatever you can all stay in your traffic jam and let us early risers get the goods!
 
The way it could effect I70 is when its closed between Frisco and the tunnel, many people use the Dam road to get to Loveland pass and go around the Tunnel when all this is closed off. Also, those 8,500 cars that use to take the Dam Road will not be trying to merge onto I70 as well. Maybe it wont effect I70 everyday, but it will effect I70 during bad weather and road closures due to morons driving stupid.
 
your such a random fact funny kid. you live on the 9-News site and play way to much pictionary. And are WAY to quick to defend loveland. Sometimes your even a bit whiney about crap on I70. If it bothers you so much find ways to avoid it or do something about it to make a difference, don't just come on NS posting every random Colorado related article that doesn't make your life easy. Instead send an email to someone. As far as I'm concerned, I've always wondered if that dam broke loose, you know how many people in Silverthorne would be harmed? Every time I look down on the town while driving across I wonder if it will ever break.

They could possibly be saving alot of lives. There is still that one road, right outside breck that takes you over to Loveland Pass right below Key.

Its like living in New Orleans man, living below Water is never a good thing....even if it is well built, everything man made can be destroyed by man in some way or another. And since nature and our planets Activities are stronger, and an EQ or some other shift in land could cause the DAM to break loose, i'm willing to drive over to 70 to possibly save mine or others lifes.

Quit thinking about your personal convenience related to skiing. And look at the other side of the perspective.
 
Are you shopping at like Bristol Farms or Whole Foods? Food is the same price here as elsewhere in regular grocery stores and that's your own fault for living in LA.
 
WRONG.
A dump in Andermatt is as deep as a dump in Alta. The snow statistics are almost identical for both resorts, have a look at this, Andermatt on a good year:

The reason why the blue graph is so much lower for Andermatt is because Andermatt's base is at the same altitude as Salt Lake City while it's peak is at the same altitude as Alta's peak. Andermatt has 3x more vertical.

To get back on subject, are you guys saying Colorado is not usually like past winter?
