College sucks

you must be going to a shitty ass college with no hot chicks.....that's your fault not ours

college fucking owns, it's just the classes that get in the way

You put it succinctly. I hate going to college. I'm just finishing up my second year then I'm going to take a year off to ski and work. And girls has nothing to do with whether or not college sucks. There are soo many hot girls at the U of I but if you never get to hang out with them because of all of the school work who cares if they are hot.

This year I hope to see more kids incorporating newschool with big mountain riding and getting out of the park.-Matt Levintal

^ that is true, and you ^^ can't complaine if you are going to the U. I am graduating from there in may. 5 years, but I am finishing. I hated it, but in todays world you have to have a college degree to get most good jobs. and if you go the the u of utah you can still do school and ski everyday. it is the best place to go in order to ski and study.

dude who started this is right. Classes completely blow all plans to have fun ;P and strode, every girl there can be hot, but it doesn't make your classes easier. My school (James Madison U.) has been in the top three in playboys hot girls ranking, but my school work still keeps me from skiing as much as I woudl like :)

yeah we certianly live in a credentialist society thats the only reason I'm in school and since my parents pay my tution its not like a college degree is going to hold me back from doing anything the least it can do is teach me patience, finishing shit u start and might even come in handy someday

God is an American.

humm lets see highschool class also get in the way to skiing.

I totally agree with you, where i come from after high school which finishes at grade 11 we go to a college like place called Cegep, which is basically like 2 years, and honeslty it blows i have no motivation or drive to do anything. its just so unteresting.

college is amazing. hot girls, partys, plenty of time for skiing... and lets not forget the learning. ha. i squeeze in 3-4 days of skiing, and at least one (usually 2) party/going-out night each week. maintaining a 3.7 in a tough program too. i love college. i will miss it dearly.

I waited to start college this year, and I am 21. I think that people should wait to go to college until they are ready and they are going for the right reason. If you dont think you will ever reach that point in your life where your education is the most important thing to you, then you should just stay in school, otherwise you wont go back.

alright. 1st off if your in college cuz your parents are paying or making you, not cuz you want to be there for yourself, do the world a favor and drop out. college is there for you to apply yourself to a profession so you can make a living for yourself and make money. if you think you can do that by workin at some random job with a highchool diploma, more power to you. people do that, but the success rate is minimal. 2ndly of course if your in college your not gonna be able to ski as much as you like. you cant even do that when you have a job. but you have to scarifice some things now if you want to make something of yoruself and be succesful. its obvious that all of us on this website would ski every day of the season if we could. but if you drop out now to ski all season, 9.5 times out of 10 youll be barely scrappin by with bills and wont have any money to go skiing. but odnt get me wrong, it does happen sometiems

so you guys need to stop complaining that 'college sucks' your making something out of yoruself for god sake, how can that suck? yoru actually not gonna be a lowlife. of course teh classes are gonna be hard, and yoru gonna get challenged, but itll be worth it. and if you dont see it that while your IN college you need to figuer that out.

and most of the time is your own damn fault for nt making your college scheduale convienent enough to for you to ski as much as you want to. talk to your directore of classes and tell him you want to register for classes early. get soem morning classes and weekends off. then boom! youve got skiing everday after classes and on the weekends. so everyeon complaining about college, shut the fuck up. if you dotn wanna be there drop out, cuz 1000's of people would love to take your spot

and never again in your life will you ever get 5 WEEKS OFF in the winter EVERY WINTER, to do all the skiing you can manage with your ridiculously cheap college season pass. enjoy it, kids.

ridiulously cheap passes, the only short term reason to be in college. fuck it. anything that makes you want to shoot people cant be good... and theres a lot of people id like to shoot.we should stage an NS coup at that yellowstone club place... make it ours... since its private and stuff.

joeengel, you got a few things right, i have very little drive for education at the moment. After time i would feel like an ass if i was living in a very poor state. I should prolly take your advice and drop the fuck out, or transfer out west.

^i am truly sorry that you hate college....you must either have had a blast in high school or you're doing something wrong because going to a big university should be fun....but i've always been in an easy major and never tried that hard to begin with, so classes have never really gotten in the way of socialization. try taking an easier load next semester

-Strode

Abba Zabba, you my only friend

didn't finish - in my opinion, it is worth it to take a lighter class load, even if it means you graduate late.....it's going to take me 5 1/2 years to graduate, but i had mad fun the whole time, ESPECIALLY in the dorms my freshman year (then again i came from a piece of shit little town so anything could be better).

one of my good friends graduated in 3 1/2 years (!) and she took 20 credits every semester and never had any time to hang out ever and now she's done and pissed off that she never got to actually enjoy college.....try only getting classes on M/W/F or T/Th so then you'll have some free time

-Strode

it's this simple: if you hate it and dont want to be there, then drop out. You're wasting precious time and money, my friend.

I`m finally succeeding, and I owe it all to yes-I-cannibus.

u know,

everyone's different, and that's the bottom line...

i thought about dropping out my 2nd year cuz i was in college not because i wanted to be there...but because i didn't know what else to do.... i still graduated a couple years later...and after a few years in the workforce i'm going BACK to school(airport operations) to do something totally unrelated to my undergrad(biologybest chicks) degree...

so maybe the biology was a waste of time and money... but the years in college allowed me to meet cool and uncool people, do cool and uncool things not only in college but thru my part-time gigs during school and summer break....which is what REAL life is about... both the cool and UNcool.

college was a time of good times and no worries...

and for those of u who thought high-school was that, then thats fine....some people think the best times are during retirement...some people say its when they start a family...

everyone's different...choose ur own path but do it wisely

College isn't all that bad, but it has its downsides. Mainly the money, I am paying for myself...out of state add ontop of that I pay for all my living expenses myself, my bills, rent and groceries, I am the defenition of a poor student. Whoever is doing, or has done this knows how much this truly sucks. I am almost 20 and now am $26,000 in the hole. My reason for finishing is to pay off my debt. School and a job cut my skiing time down severly, this year I've skied 2 days in Whistler, and 5 here. Small sacrifice like someone said. Every employer today looks for someone with a degree. Neither of my parents finished college and both have insane amounts of experience, but getting another job after being laid off is not easy, even though you have more than enough qualifications for a job, and are the best person interviewed for it, doesn't mean you for sure have this job in the bag...missing a degree glares in the face of an employer.

Whoever quoted playboy for the best colleges wasn't talking about the best party schools apparently. The University of Idaho has had the top forever, they aren't even included in that list anymore.

sure classes suck except for a few like ski instrcuting at alta having alta open there lifts for me preseason so i dont have to hike and get to ski untracked all day is rad. im perfectly happy here at the u of utah.

I tried college. Private liberal arts and a music school. Music is a huge aspect of my life and I hated being at that pretentious music school. The liberal arts college was ok but for 28 grand a year I surely was not getting a 28k education. Plus kids would just drink and smoke pot whenever they had a chance. I'm not a huge fan of either. I think college depends on what college suits you best. So after that I packed up and headed for CA and now I'm in a 3 year acting school that is incredibly amazing! I'm experimenting with various outlets... my next outlet is to learn to fly airplanes. It's all up to what you wanna do. I'll go back to college when I'm ready.

Just be glad that you are not taking night clases at a major party school (CU Boulder) and live 40 miles away and have to commute 3 times a week, while pulling in 40 hours a week at work. It sucks not being able to go to all the parties, and other shit that goes down at college. Maybe I'm just bitter because I had a great time in high school (maybe too good of a time, which would explain my grades) and now I actually have to try to do well, and figure out ways to pay for school, and other activities. I would hang in there and keep pluggin away at it, because even if you have a degree in basket weaving you still will be able to have a good job that you will be happy to have, after you have fucked up your knees from skiing. Also maybe try to take some easy classes so that it is not so stressful, maybe just take some generic business courses that will be good for most any jobs. Anyways hang in there, it can always be worse.

^use your newfound college skills to gain an entry level job at a resort of your choice. Sure, the pay is shit and cost of living is extremely high, but it beats living in the real world.

Try to remember the whole purpose of college, and what it was that you were majoring in. And then go find a job realting to your major, and or possibly adapt it to something with skiing.

Strode, the thing is, people like me and crystal-needs are at schools with fucking ridiculous standards. They give out so much work that you have to be an socially isolated introvert to get by. I spend an average of 30 hours a week outside of classes doing school work, and that's not during exam periods, when it goes like this: Wake up, study, eat dinner, study, sleep at about 2am, repeat until test day. I kinda wish I went to SFU, but it's too long a drive, the gas money would kill me.

I'm going to a real tough school. But I'm doing this cause I know I can, and because I believe It will pay off later. I don't dream of being a pro skier, or making skiing my life, rather I look at skiin as a hobby, one I deeply enjoy. My dream is to have a career and family, where I have a good job and where I can teach my kids to ski, and pass on the love of skiing to them. Thats why I'm going to college

^No, you don't understand. I mean, UBC is ranked as the 35th school in the world (that is, this ranking refers to how well respected the school is by other institutions; if you want a graduate degree, this is the ranking that refers to how respected or recognized the school is). It isn't rated that highly for any reason but academic standards. We don't have rich facilities like yale, or huge entry requirements like harvard, or the historical significance of oxford or cambridge. We've just got bitching hard markers bent on sadistically destroying students' lives. I swear the amound of sleep deprivation I'm subjected to is going to lead to my death at age 38.

''Skiing's unique from other sports. I think the biggest thing that I like most about it is that you're doin' it for yourself... You're not out on a team, you know. You can add your own style to any aspect of it, and you can ski things how you want... You can move at your own pace... And, you just, you have a lot of time sort of to yourself to be skiin', and that's... That's a lot of fun.''

yes, i realize i am the poster boy for lazy stoner college guys, but everybody goes to college for a different reason. you studious fellas chose the hard stuff, with the intention of getting bomb ass jobs out of school and making shit loads of money. i give respect to you. me on the other hand, i went to college to get the fuck out of glenwood springs colorado. i didn't give a shit where i was going, and i had no idea what i wanted to do (i still don't), so i went to the cheapest decent in-state school, and picked a major where i only need a 2.3 gpa to graduate, and most of my classes consist of multiple choice tests of which the answers to previous (i.e. identical because all my prof's are lazy) tests are readily available. so i'm sure you want to shoot me in the kneecaps right now. the funny thing is the construction management major at csu is touted (first time i've ever used that word) as one of the premier programs in the country, and employers from all over the place come here to get interns and employees directly from the major. did i receive an education worthy of me and my parents' money? fuck no. but was it a waste? no to that too - i have a company waiting to pay me $35,000 a year with benefits the day i graduate. my major didn't teach me much, but it did get me the interview. am i going to take the job? probably not, because greeley sucks. college for me was about having fun and meeting new people, and doing as little as possible to get my degree. god i'm a terrible role model and none of you kids should listen to me - i'm done anyway

i guess ''different strokes for different folks'' is my motto of the day.

JD, that blows. Mines is ranked pretty high academically, but not that high. Seriously though if your going to a school that hard, I got mad respect for that. It is a tough, but I hope it pays off for you in the long run

Haha actually this time it's actually due to a social life, I haven't slept in 36 hours beause I was out with people last night. Reading break kicks ass, it's like a shining beacon of hope to remind me that there are other things in life besides textbooks. But yes I did notice that ''amount'' mistake after I posted...curses.
