College Acceptance 08 thread

^for the quote of rhpc..

I'm pretty sure your grades have a much higher effect on your acceptance then how hard you work. How do poor grades demonstrate a good work ethic, they don't! Up here in Canada when we apply to university all we do is submit our grades. No essay about why you should go, no filling out forms. They look purely at the grades and maybe under special circumstances they will consider other aspects other then academic.

grades are like 90% here but they do take other stuff into considderation like do you do anything outside of class that could potentially benefit their school

Thats about as untrue as can be. In fact, getting an 800 math means you are good at elementary algebra, some geometry/trig, and reasoning. I got a 700 my first time and 670 my second on math and I just took calc 2 at UVM and got an A. I'm not saying that to brag, but it just goes to show that sat scores arent the best or only measure of math skills, and I am sure you could do fine in finance at chicago if you don't have that great of math scores

OK....so you might be able to do fine in finance at chicaco without an 800 on math...but you're not going to get accepted in the first place with 600ish. this is not about college performance....its about college ACCEPTANCE

i know a few people at villanova and ive heard mixed opinions... i mean your real close to philly so youve got alot of bars and clubs... but im not too sure what the party scene is like there

ok. well next time you say that sliding a rail is easy, im going to say that you sound like a prick because some kids work really hard at sliding rails, when you do it without trying.

No no...I was talking about once you are in college. Let me clarify: once you are in college it doesn't matter how well you did on the SAT, and it is not a great indicator of how well you will do. I was just saying that you can be a really smart person in college and not work (at getting good grades) and not do very well in your classes. On the flipside, you can be a dumb person and work hard in college and get a great GPA. Sorry about the confusion, i meant working at getting good grades once you are in college.

not true, it really depends on the program you apply to, more specialized programs that are more difficult to get into often require supplementary applications, take for example engineering at Queens. The biomedical science major that I applied for in the Health Science program had a supplementary application that not only asked for your grade 11 and 12 marks but also extra curricular activities and had 4 essay questions.

thats dope, im gonna be at colby and thats mad close and essentially the same school haha. my friends sister is at bates and she loves it

awesome, im accepted to willamette and LC. UPS is literally 5 minutes away from my house though, so i cant do it. have you visited willamette or LC yet?

i visited willamette, its pretty nice campus-wise but i really didnt like salem, but the good thing is the train station shares a street corner with campus so you can run up to portland pretty easily. I didn't visit L&C but i drove right by it, dont know why i didnt take time to stop in... I walked through UPS campus and it was a good campus but Tacoma didnt seem like a very exciting college town which is why im more interested in portland.

i visited willamette during the summer, and it was cool. i didnt hate salem, but everyone who ive talked to who knows Salem says its pretty shitty. LC is super cool, i loved my overnight visit with the football team. def check it out before you make up your mind. As far as Tacoma goes, ive been living here for damn near 18 years, and i absolutely love it. its definitely not the most exciting spot, but it is just so fun and interesting. the history is amazing if you get into it, and there is always cool shit. the scenery/nature side is super awesome. and besides, most of the time it seems like the college atmosphere itself is pretty self sustaining/entertaining.

well i am a senior but i have to do a post-grad year at prep school for hockey

so i got accepted to:

pomfret

hill

i probably wont get a chance to visit anything out there again since i live in VT, but the only thing that i'm wary of about L&C is if its too hippie or something. I got real weirded out at Reed by the hippie factor but I feel like its a little calmer at L&C. I'm really into their outdoor friendliness, with a good program for whitewater, hiking, or whatever, and easy access to hood. good to hear tacoma isnt that bad, i just am not the kind of person to live on a 20 acre campus for 8 months a year, and its a bit further to a mountain

haha, i think he means cornell as in the ivy league cornell....

as for me, i've been accepted to champlain college, the university of vermont, and st. michael's.

i was put on the waiting list by babson college and bentley college (my number one choice) so it looks like i'll be at champlain - PM me if you are going there!

Fuck Northeastern! Don't come here unless you enjoy a police state style campus. And the school is mediocre at best. Very overrated. Im so disappointed with my whole experience here. Im getting the fuck out of here for next year. Also, Boston is one of the most boring cities ever.
