Imagine having clear skis and being able to see through them as you skis....that would be soooooo dope....i want some...you could see the snow gliding under you skis...and the rocks taking big chunks out of them.

ya, thated be pretty pimp, but itd look seriously fuked in the air when it looks like u juss got 20 feet of air on only ur ski boots, an if they were gona be seethrough ud probly need either glass or plastc which arent to hot for skiin on, but hey i bet some big ski company could probly think sompin real smart up an make em.... in conclusion... thated be cool

 
an all clear model would ski horrible. I like the idea tho...what about a normal ski with a clear topsheet so u could see the materials? that would be sick if it was a wood core, might look stupid for synthetics. kinda like this years k2 that are kinda clear in spots so u can see the woodgrain.

There is a new ski company, whom also makes snowboars, that is possibly coming out with a somewhat clear ski...topsheet at least.

i know arbour snowboards use a clear topsheet.

why not make some skis out of plexiglass? they might work

That'd be a pretty sweet idea. But I think it will be a few years yet, before their is a transparent composite that can be used for the core of a ski or snowboard. I'd probably be down when they do it though.

haha yeah chrome would be so much more pimp than clear, and itd also be a lot easier

ok. it would be pretty easy. this is how a ski is constructed:

Clear plastic topsheet with graphics printed on the bottom

fiberglass

vertically laminated wood core/ or foam.

fiberglass

Clear base with graphics printed on bottom, with edges glued to the top.

so, all you would need to do is to use a clear plasic or something that was lightwieght and the same flex as wood for the core. everything else is already clear

it would be cool if they could like spot it, that way they could have a 90% base with the clear part being raised up slightly so that wouldnt slow it down

there are already full on clear skis on the market, you can check out the alien technology in the extra segment in josh bermans movie 'forward' skis are dope, cant wait to get a pair.

i'm wondering if DB skis can do it. since they know how to make ski cores completely out of carbon fiber they may be able to do it with fiberglass which cures clear. with clear topsheet and base it may work.

 
they have clear wakeboards. BUt they suck.

You could use leash, just like a snow board, and they would still have metal edges which would stand out in only powder, and I'm sure you could still see a clear ski, it would a shine, just like glass.

Clear skis is oh so 20 years ago. Anybody remember Hexal. And Kastle made a ski where the tail was clear around the same time.

im doing this for a school project...i came up with the idea like 3 months ago....i know a guy who can make an all fiberglass ski with any flex pattern side cut camber etc.....i was thinking no edges or base, and have the ski intended for urban...kinda like the edgless forum boards for urban

i skied with a kid last season who had a board that wasn't proper clear but kinda transluscant in patches so that when you held it up to the sun the patches would light up, and you could see your hand wavin on the other side.

far as i know all volant skis are chrome or at least have big chrome areas on!!

yeah just put on some graphics so that you can still see grabs and stuff,like just write the brand like salomon (dear god please let me have spelt that right) on the bottom and it'd look mean when your getting air, except for the mirror image on the top

haha that would look cool..just a logo in the ski, and all clear

now if only they could make a ski without a core inside, any edges/walls, or clear sintered p-tex bases, it might work
