Allow me to point out a subtle difference between Atheist and Agnostic, because some of the people who say they are Atheist's are completely mal-informed. An Atheist is one who directly refutes and denounces the name of God, very close (if not already) to committing a Mortal sin in the eye's of a Christian. An Agnostic is one who believes that there may or may not be a God or other super-natural force out there, and chooses not to believe in any religion. In my experience with Atheists, they are primarily undecided on what to 'follow' rather than commit their lives to a God. Most of them I have met and talked to are also incredibly ignorant of their religious acceptance/non-acceptance as well, and simply are unwilling to admit that they have given themselves to Christ because it is not popular these days, and in turn denounce God out of a lack of understanding for Him. Of course, I realize that not everybody who is Atheist fits any of the above comments, but a few do. That's just what I see.

I'd say most of the people who call themselves Atheist or Agnostic on here are neither. They are most likely against religion because they didn't like going to Church when they we're too young to sit still. I was the same, but believing in Christ is a whole different ballgame.

I'm a Christian.

Another definition: Christer. A christer is like most Canadians today. He believes in God or some superior being, yet hates church, so goes (reluctantly) to Christmas mass and sometimes Easter mass.

I guess I'm agnostic, I live according to Judeo Chrstian type values, better than most believers, I just don't like what Chrsitianity has become.

SwitchPollard- I hope you aren't talking about me... no way do I consider myself an atheist because I didn't like going to church as a kid. I sorta think that's as offensive to atheists/agnostics as it would be to start cracking religious jokes in here and insulting your beliefs. For example, how would you feel if I said most Christians only believe in God because they had Christianity hammered into their skulls at a young age? Yeah, that's the generalization you just made.

Atheists/agnostics think long and hard about their beliefs and values in life, just as you do. We just have a different outlook on the world and universe we live in.

And as for the atheistic/agnostic deal... I am truly atheist because I don't believe in the supernatural at any level. I believe everything has to follow the physical laws of the universe that contains it. (although there could certainly be a being with supreme intelligence out there somewhere, even capable of creating life, it would simply be the owner of the ant farm- bigger and better, but not omnipresent and certainly not God)

I hope I haven't offended anyone... I certainly didn't mean to. But I just wanted to make the point that 'atheism' isn't a synonym for ignorance, which was the point I saw you making.

Or is it that religion requires you to submit to God and women (not to sound negative) are brought up with the thought that someday there will be someone there to care for them and look after them, their husband. So adding God on top there isn't that big of a step compared too... Men are brought up under the assumption that we'll take a lot of the burden of responsibility in that union and relationship. Should be the one bringing in the money, the one who is strong for our women. Then remember that you need to submit to God. It's two contrasting scenarios, whereas for women it is a much similar situation for both.
