Christian Skiers?

i'm definatly agnostic, i'm not for or against religion, i just don't care, religion causes more problems than it solves, and in terms of god, i don't care if there is one or isn't really, i'll find out when i get there, why spend you're whole life preparing for 'heaven' and then nothing happens, so just wait till you get there to find out

GO FLAMES!!

Used to be Christian until I went to a big city and saw what Christianity really is and who Christians really are. I could not keep my faith after seeing zealous and fervent Christians replace intelligence with faith. Saw the way some Christians stick their noses up and look down upon those that arent Christians. Mostly, it was the dichotomy between Christianity's message and the way it is actually lived out today. Granted, I don't mean to generalize here, I know many good Christians and that is why I was one for so many years in my home town.

^ its a shame that you let the actions of others determine your own outlook. you have to remember that the people and the practicers of a faith do not necissarily define it.

as for me, LDS, Mormon, whatever you like to call it... and theres certainly some mormons who dont live the faith... thats not going to change my outlook on it anymore than anyone else should be effected by the inperfections that exists in any religion.

you have to look at the core beleifs. no where in the bible or otherwise does it say that you need to pay your tithing so that the minister can drive a new cadilac. that strikes me as hypocritical. if i felt that my contributions to a church were being misused, i would go find another church. if you cant find any, well, you do what you have to do. i personally think ive found a pretty darn good one.

point being, that you should judge an ideology or a religion by its beliefs and values, and not by the way that others in that religion act. if you did that, youre always going to be dissapointed i think.

Im a Christian. I think catholic counts....and u don't have to go to church or be baptized to go to heaven, think about it, not every one in the world who believes in God is in a place were u can do those things. Peace

yay skiing

Im Catholic and I have no problem saying it. My primary school was Christian so you had no problem saying you were Catholic because so was everyone else. I got into high school, people had different religeons and I respected that. It was just the people who challenged what I belived in that annoyed me. They would ask why I spend my life praying to someone who doesnt exist, I wouldnt say anything because they wouldnt understand, they were brought up not to belive and that is how they will stay without guidance. I dont try to force people to become Catholic and I dont go around selling bibles door to door because it seems to me that thats a common stereotype of Christains. If your a Christain or any religeon your not going to be perfect because thats not possible, but you can try to be a better person, not being better than anyone else because everyone should be treated exactly the same. I usually go to church every Sunday and I have no problem devoted 1 single hour to my faith, im not going to lose out on life because according to others they could have done something better with that hour, like sleep. Ill always be Catholic because for me its my courage, what my life is based on.

No no, I'm not saying it's hard to be a christian and also be a skier, but I don't think that the communities really match up. Not from the point of being a skier in the christian community, but rather I think making a christian presence in the skiing community is difficult and as it seems for me, mismatched. I'm not saying that I will deny being christian on here, but I don't really think that I can identify myself as a 'christian skier' in the ski community. For me, my personal religious beliefs don't really coincide with skiing. Once again, I'm not saying I refuse to talk about or deny my religion on here, but I'm not going to create an identity for myself as a christian skier.

Kinda? I dunno, what I'm trying to say is, I prefer to keep religion a more private unspoken thing.

i preach the word on the hill. if you ever see some crazy person with bible in hand skiing around trying to convert you, it's me

I was kidding

did that make any sense?

i was baptised and i went to church for 5 years but when i joined hockey/skiing there was no time for church so no one in our family goes. We just go easter and Christmas. I guess I sorta have mixed beliefs, I believe in god, but I don't believe in Adam & Eve. I don't live like the super-christians in my school tho where everything's a sin and stuff, I just... live my life with a prayer here and there.

For everyone who is confused on Atheist/Agnostic definitions (almost everyone in here), here is a link

An Introduction to Atheism

I'm amazed at how many people are ashamed to admit they are religious. Theist make up about 85 percent of the U.S. population (probably a lot more worldwide), it's weird how timid a mass majority is about it.

Anyway I'm an atheist.

I am a christian. Eventhough i was raised in a christian home, i didn't truly understand what it meant till I was 15. It was then that I excepted God in my life and change my daily habits to reflect my love of christ. It was through Christ that I have found my way through many trials in recent years.

im a baptist. we are not in any way affiliated with the mega churches, or with the charismatic movement. the tithes go toward the church, to make the facilities more useful, or to build a larger auditorium to acomodate bigger congregations. our pastors don't drive expensive cars, and don't look down on you if you don't have money. i got to church 3x a week, not to be better than you, but to learn more about God.

i went to catholic school for years, and had it jammed down my throat so far it all came back up. i am not a person who sides with faith in something else. its vain and ignorant, but who better to put faith in than yourself? im into the who golden rule and such, and try to live my life right. but i dont think faith is something that can come from a book

i was once an alter boy who carried the cross down the isle, but that was when i was forced to, and was able to stop once i told my ma that believing in jesus is like believing in santa claus, once you reach a certain age you realize it is all fake. i am agnostic

Actually there is a valid, interesting connection to be made here - there are quite a few christians here and I'm pretty sure if you ran some kinda cross-reference you'd see a very strong link to unflappable Bush/neocon/xtian coalition support, which is elsewhere a pretty big anachronism in youth-based activity unless you're in Utah. Big parental link too, I think, since skiing is generally financially prohibitive for a kid without up-mid class parents, or parents steeped in tradition, who are the base GOP demographic. I think that's why NS on the whole has such a different tone than other youth-focussed sites. FWIW, I grew up pentecostal, then mennonite, then nada. My mom is still pretty hardcore xtian, but we get along fine, since I think it's made her a much happier person. My dad still goes to church but he's exploited church for business networking before (as some of you get older you'll realize this happens. A lot.) so I don't buy his act.

i'm not too sure...my family isnt rich by any means...i have a job so i can pay for my ski stuff, my parents dont buy me a pass, or skis, or anything. also, i am a practicing christian, but i do not support bush, and i look upon the hyper-conservative christian coalation groups with much shame that they represent "my" religion.

what you say could be true, but as with most things, there are exceptions.

ill be super rich and own mt.hood and let everybody from ns ski for free... except freezed

Totally, I know mad christians who aren't default fundies, and who are skiers. At SMS 96 (or 97?) I had a roommate who was Mormon. He got PISSED when I pulled out weed, told on the coaches, but somehow, afterwards, we got along like brothers. He was an incredible skiier too - he was 15 and he came second in the camp comp to a guy on the Japanese national team who busted sevens and quads off mogul airs (this was 96 for some perspective).

basically i don't believe in any religion i believe you should live your life how you want to, not because you want to go somewhere or impress anyone or anything...religion is just another cause for wars
