Champlain or Saint Michael's

nope definitely not true. Champlain is far from a community college. Its just private so its kind of obscure. its definitely a really sick school. im learning so much there.

as for home work though...much easier than many other schools. some awesome teachers. its a really person learning experience. tiny classes. right near downtown. you dont really have to drive anywhere either.

saint mikes is good for certain majors that champlain doesnt have though. so it really depends on your interests.

she never called it a community college. and I think you meant personal learning experience :: )

I gotchor back fool...

But yeh don't go to saint mikes, sorry colly d, but that shit's so beat.

i go to champlain, and it's sick. and i get to go to school in burlington, not one exit down 89 in the greater burlington area.

i go to champlain and its pretty sick. you can live off campus, which i started sophmore year. there tons of nice people. classes are small so u can easily get help from teachers and they have a better knowledge of ur strengths.(not hard to go up to them and get help) workload isnt harsh usually. right in burlington so u can pretty much walk anywhere. and i havnt lived in the dorms, but they look pretty sick. they're like old houses. DO NOT try to go live in spinner place though. I was a fool that got forced into living there freshman year and ur living in winooski and are really close to SMC. Boo Winooski.

champlain is a real good buisness school. saint mikes is a cool school too. champlain is in burlington, which really makes a difference cause st mikes in 15 minutes away. i live in burlingotn, my brother goes to st mikes and i would say CHAMPLAIN>

not even. if you are lucky enough to have a car first year, you are still a solid 8 minute drive to the heart of burlington with stop signs, lights and traffic.

Straight up, living in a dorm for 4 years of your life is really not conducive to the whole "going to college and growing up thing." unless you want to graduate before ever signing a lease, paying bills, or being responsible for your own shit. academics aside (because I don't think anyone's that concerned about them) you will have a much more "well rounded" college experience at Champlain between the two schools.

dorms serve a purpose, to transition you from living at mommy and daddy's house to living in the "semi-real world" however, dorms are more like summer camp than the real world wherever you go to college. and a natural part of college is wanting to get the fuck out of the dorms and live on your own. I enjoy having my own kitchen, bathroom, living room, etc. and think it's fucked up that kids at st mikes don't get to experience that until they graduate.

how the fuck are you suppose to grow up when your eating in a cafeteria for 4 years and don't know how to make dinner except for microwaving pizza bagels?

I just find SMC a very depressing environment/location if not anything else . I am only a hater about this topic because I went to boarding school and I know how fucked it is to be isolated and contained on a campus

ya but that 8 minutes turns into a 45 minute walk or 25 minute shitty bus wait/ride if you want to party in an actual college town and not get DUI.... might as well give up Big Sar I'll always win (:

^ oh yea, and on the distance from burlington tip: everyone claiming it's not a big deal to get to burlington seems to be under the impression its always sunny and 75 degrees in northern vermont. your not going to find many days between now and late april you'd want to bike or walk from saint mikes to burlington. the fact of the matter is it's alot different to have all of downtown burlington at your finger tips (i.e. a short walk away) than to have to make a trip out of it everytime you need something or want to go walk church st. for biddies.

also, unless your comfortable driving drunk whenever you want to really "go out" in burlington you shouldn't be driving yourself into town at all. and if your not living in downtown burlington you can't just walk around looking for parties, plus you'll never meet anyone who lives downtown if everyone at your school lives on campus. many reasons champlain is a better option from a purely social/convenience perspective.

smc freshman get cars if they want them second semester. Nobody got turned down for parking last year when I was there. If you wanna party in burlington, drive there and stay with friends or take the bus. Who gives a fuck if its 8mins or 10mins or 15mins. Yes its less convienient for going into burl than uvm or champ but its not a huge deal. If you have friends to visit there then theres no problem cause you have a place to crash, if you dont have people to visit btown gets played fast anyway. You can only walk into overpriced shops so many times before your sick of it. Each school is a solid choice for a certain person. All very different and one person on NS cant tell you where to go. Visit and figure it out

unless you go to st. mikes, then you don't really know what it's like here.

also, we don't live in dorms all 4 years either...we just have *for the most part* gauranteed housing. I could live off campus if I wanted to next year. I'd rather have a suite though and go to europe in the spring. and you do learn how to cook or whaterver cause after sophomore year you get a limited meal plan like you do at most other schools. sure, smc is small but if you don't like it then don't go here.

oh ya, and talking about partying downtown or whatever...you gotta be braindead if you don't know kids to party with downtown. everyone in burlington knows eachother. but going to smc, I'd rather just party on campus. I know kids here. I'm in the social scene here. I'd rather party here. same goes for kids downtown who don't know anyone at smc, so they think it's lame. it's two different social scenes. if I wanted to go downtown I would, but partying here is just as fun.

^ i think the point is that you don't know what your missing by living on your own and experiencing downtown burlington on the regular. you guys just stay on your comfy little campus, get drunk with the same 10 people every weekend, and talk about how burlington is lame.

i don't blame you though, they make it so easy for you guys to be everlasting teenagers why would you bother becoming an adult and making friends outside of your comfort zone of your tiny campus

...what? I don't mean to personally attack you but, spending what...2 nights at a school and befriending someone who has negative friends doesn't give one the best impression of a school. And again, not to personally attack anyone, but I've had people in this thread call me asking if there was anything going on here cause they were bored downtown.

There's a ton of hate towards SMC. Like I said before, you gotta go h

ere to appreciate it. Say what you want about living on campus and not "in the real world" (again, like I said before I could live off campus if I wanted to). I'm having fun here. I don't feel that I'm missing out on downtown. I spent a lot of time downtown and partying downtown last year. It was fun but I've had just as much fun here. I don't get the hate towards SMC. Maybe cause I go here and I've spent ample time at both uvm, champlain, and just bumming downtown. I enjoy all of Burlington and the surronding areas - no need for all the hate.

Yeah, I have. Environment plays a large impact on how you feel... grey skys, isolated campus, beach, warzone etc

Wait, are you talking to me? Cause I've had a good time at SMC before. I'm not personally hating on every single person who goes there, I'm saying that personally I like Burlington a lot more.

who the fuck cares. smc kids like smc. adrian hates smc kids cause they slay harder then him. adrain prolly lives in mercy cause thats for the kids who dont have too many friends. charlotte is in highschool so i dunno if she counts..jen and colleen are legit. peace

haha i dont hate anyone from SMC. i just think your school is fuckin lame . kay and sorry i have been skiing half as many years as you , so ur right im not as good. but i have fun and these hating threads is what NS is all about . if u take shit this seriously you're dumb haha

St. Mikes is straight up better in every way. First off you only have to life in dorms freshmen year, after that we have sick housing. For instance I live in a 5 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and full kitchen and living room and it's dope! Second of all, we don't have apartments downtown therefore we don't get our parties busted by the cops, we rage all night and it's sick. Another point, our classes, which is why you're in college to begin with, are awesome. Professors are super chill and the percentage of you getting a good job out of college are really high. So you won't have to sell crack. Also if you want to, you can take any class at Champlain, it's really easy to transfer the credits.

As for partying and traveling downtown? It's easy, I go to the bars with my friends a lot and we party at people's houses downtown. Catch a ride, split a 7$ taxi ride or just crash on the couch. No big deal. As for the bubble? Yeah some kids don't do shit. But the ski and snowboard club kids shred all the time. I personally go to the mountain four or five days a week. Each school has something different to offer. Adrian, I'm pretty sure you've only been to a freshmen dorm in which case your perception of the school is going to be pretty skewed. We all know freshmen dorms are whack.. you should know that too, you live in one. And I hate to break it to you, but OAR doucebags exist at UVM too. It's cool though, I'm sure sitting in your room at Mercy on NS all the time is so much better than living in the bubble at St. Mikes.

lol 20 people in a kitchen with a keg doesn't count as raging....

but yeah coming from an apartment to dorms is, indeed very, gay, but it actually is far better than being at SMC bubble , even if I didn't have the largest and most ballin room setup in all of UVM /claimd, my car parked outside, jibpark in the back and my bitch upstairs ,so i think i will survive for another semester. and damn u got me im on NS all the time cause I only have 2 classes, and never have any homework to do and plus i cant ski yet . you said ittt

but i feel like u guys dont get it, so no hard feelings yall are chill kids for sure and rip it hard , harder than most of the gapers here . 1-love

first off id like to say I love ns. Im clocking almost 36 hours straight!!!

mercy has no jib park in the back of it. The rooms in mercy are tiny. the only good thing about mercy is officer hunter and Im not sure he is even still there.

One final point..before you go and try to rip on SMC or anything that isnt "mercy, the dopest fucking place on the east" try going somewhere else. have you ever partied at smc outside of alumni or lyons or the 300's field? doubt it. thats all I have to say. so stop being bitter becasue you know mercy is bullshit.

i just spent $300 on a welder to make me handrails for the hill after i come back from break... and there will be another 17 foot box as well.... so yeah....

second, you're right mercy is pretty gay, along with the rest of trinity campus being the closest to the boonies where you guys are at and the furthest from downtown.. this is just my little private section of it... like i said biggest room on campus. so im not sure what you're talkin about there

ill have a sick ass house downtown near the water with garage, terrace and liqueur store next year so im not concerned about dorms
i think the only bitterness comes from people who couldn't get into UVM for whatever reason so they rep champlain or st mikes extra hard to compensate. i haven't been hatin from page 1.... someone asked for our opinion and i've been giving it . Lets just enjoy it while it lasts . The one positive thing I will say about SMC is that you guys do get hookd up more for rail jams and that type of shit, uvm is super gay about liability and putting on events

yea i dont really like how you refer to me as a smc kid. i live downtown in my own apartment. i have spent mad time at both uvm and smc. your talking about smc kids repping smc pretty hard but what are you doing about uvm right now? uvm is the easiest school to get into in vermont.

Ok so you pimped out your section of a triple. Pretty dope. I actually got into UVM and chose St. Mikes.. so yeah, I'm not bitter about anything. I'm actually pretty stoked about going to college close to the mountains. Which is why we all live in Burlington, right? I also think it's dope that we can all ride at Stowe and meet up at Leddy to throw down. We have a huge crew from UVM, Champlain and St. Mike's that reps at the local mountains, everyone is chill and get's along real well. Everyone except you...

I go to saint mikes, Every day i have a grape fruit for breakfast. when i leave my dorm i throw all the seeds from the grapfruit on the ground. This means next year Saint mikes will have a Grape fruit orchard outside Joyce. Just thought id share.

Heres a song i like to listen to. mabey you will too.

love- Joe Tyson

this is turning into the biggest hate fest ever...everybody likes different things, and different schools fit different people

shut the fuck up with all this hating.....unnecesary

My largest problem is the social scene, if you are looking for big parties than this is not the school for you. Please, take my advice, a typical weekend is getting buzzed and than going to the 300's. First of all the 300's are over rated, its upperclass students dancing on tables. Also, there are at the most 50 people at the party. the biggest problem if you go to these parties you have to bring your own beer!!!!! If this is not a big deal to the people that are not in college, you might not kill yourself after 4 years. I mean what i am saying and am sorry that it took so long for me to explain the social life is lower than a C-. I may trasfer....i actually have the forms but arent sure if i will go through with it. I went to see my sister at St. Lawrence and had a blast. look at SLU before saint mikes. best of luck with your decision on a college.
