Central sued for $14 mil

well lawsuits tear the fabric of society, however, im not surprised, considering central builds just terrible jumps

I don't know what to think except everyones quick to get a lawyer and sue you. I know theres way more to it than that but, I just don't want to see places round here get scared to build terrian parks that keep progressing by making them better and bigger.

the equivalent of falling out of a three story building? please, i've overshot so many bigger jumps (the waterfall, jump 3 at breck and keystone, that hip stevens used to have...ect.) and i know that those were way bigger than anything at snoqualmie, and there's no way he went 37 feet in the air, it sounds like he shorted with straight legs and all the impact was absorbed in his back, or he fell on his back, it seems that he did not properly access the risks and did something that was above his ability or that the conditions may not have permitted.

fucking retard should have thought about what he was doing, he wanted to go in the park, he was the one who was stupid and didnt check speed, snoqualmie shouldnt have to pay shit

i remember this. pretty sure he started from the top of central park and bombed into the first jump. fucking moron.

i dont know how this shit happens... its crazy.. It says on the ticket what your responsibilites are as a ticket holder.. including INJURY OR DEATH.

ding ding ding!

The only way I could see maybe suing is if you got ran over by a cat or something... but even still, it would be your responsibility as a skier to avoid it.

i got hit my a tobaggan while standing on the side of a run and talking to a friend. that would be their fault had they done more than just knock me over.

I want to start an organization that calls out frivolous lawsuits... we'll buy billboards around the city, put his picture with SHIT HAPPENS next to him.

or maybe we'll counter sue for making my brain hurt.

UC Davis engineering testifying in a Kent court?

if little kenny wasn't wearing a helmet, Central shouldn't have to pay shit, cause obviously he was not up to the risks.

because of this kid and this lawsuit the parks we all know and love will be changed dramaticly!! its already started... due to this all VAIL resorts (5 major resorts) will have NO snow features tomorrow. and thats just the start, I'm sure there will be many more to come.. THANKS ALOT KID- U single handedly KILLED terrain parks.

I am sorry the kid got hurt, but he was the one that made HIS own decision to go off the jump and should have looked before he leept and with all the signage and park maintaince and everything the park crew did and resort did to make them as safe at possible,, you still have people that come in the park that DONT belong in there. TPC

(RIP -Parks through out the world)

There ether closed jumps and will NEVER open or have been taken out. trust me I know what i'm talking about.. had to give the order last night to take them out...SUCKED!!! and I talked to a few resorts and they have began doing to same... like a plague they all will start dieing slowly.

front page...snoqualmie pass. and never said thier was a artical on vail pullin the parks. just said the parks (jumps)have been starting to get closed or distroyed due to this issue. resorts are being cautious and are nervous...

But on the positive side...

We will have jumps back up tomorrow in 1 of our parks.. smaller to mid size.

you're stupid, vail's park is still up, and same with all of brecks (which is owned by vail resorts), and that includes all the big jumps in freeway since the spring massive slope is tomarrow, which is on those very same jumps.

well thats for the event.. not reg. public. and as for vail..I spoke to thier park manager and all their big jumps ARE closed. so might want to get your facts straight.

"They charge you $50 to get on the mountain, and that's like going to a theme park and you expect the roller coasters to be safe and stuff like that, you know,"

Bullshit - in no way, shape, or form even similar. When you go to a theme park you are not controlling the speed of the ride, and recklessly turning it up REALLY fast so it falls apart.

I still think this is total crap given the disclaimer you are agreeing to purchasing a lift ticket. Even if they had a "death pit" for skiers to jump into, it's still your choice of going into it or not, and you accept that responsibility.

Bottom line is you shouldn't bomb a jump your first time. duh.

who remembers what scot scmidt said in "the blizzard of ahhs"?

"anyone who sues a ski areas should be shot"

that being said, it really sucks this guy got paralyzed, but he also shouldnt have hit the park assuming everything is safe....obviously not, which is why you scope shit

^^ F u buddy. I dont smoke or doing any drugs. so that stereo type is BS. maybe some prak crew at small resorts, but not managers/designers. its a profession for us and its what we love..given back to the industry in a creative enjoyable way. so dont talk shit about the ppl that build you YOUR enjoyment!!

Easy there, Hoose meant no harm by that statement, that's beside the topic of this thread anyways.

And honestly, there isn't much "engineering" behind a ski jump. I'm an engineer... so I can speak to this. Yes, there are basic kinematics behind it, the angle at which you leave the jump, and the speed you are at will determine how high you go and how far you go - so where the landing "should go". HOWEVER, if you overshoot a jump, that means you were going too fast. In order to brake your back, you need to be going WAY too fast, and the only reason I can see someone going that fast and overshooting that much is if the jump was seriously built like crap, like huge ramp, landing 10 feet past it..... and in that case YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER AS A SKIER TO GO OFF THAT JUMP.

thanks sean, but yaa, i meant that as a joke about certain park crew guys who ive seen tokin in the woods. by no means a generalization or any hate, and i have no problem with smoking in general. sorry it got interpreted that way

park crew people getting stoned on the job is completly besides the point

The point is, that this guy is a complete fucking goon and as soon as I can figure out how the internet works I'm going to flame his crippled ass to the moon

no worries, yeah it did come off like that. just alot of ppl dont know what it all tkes to run a goos safe park and all the corp. BS, legality shit we (managers/deigners) have to go through on a daily basis for your guys enjoyment. sorry about snappin at ya. just gets frustrating sometimes.

yaya, i can understand how you feel and im glad you understood what i was trying to say. and lawyers have definatley fucked up how our country runs, holy shit

kinda lame i think. i mean i feel bad for the guy but he obviosly dident check out the jump before he hit it, so he had way to much speed. They should build bigger landings for shure though!

He's probly in so much debt from his injury though. I blame the health care system more than I blame him. My guess is that, probably long before he dies, all that money will have been spent on medical bills and he'll be up to his eyes in debt with and not be able to do anything about it. He didn't invent this fucked up system that we have, he just used it.

14 MILLION in hospital bills? No way... maybe a mil TOPS. He would be lucky if he worked his entire life and made a million, so now he's got a nice accumulation of cash.... hey, he should buy a mountain, I hear those are good investments.

Hmmm didnt realize it, but Snoqualmie is appealing the verdict. Hopefully the end result will be better, because $14 million is ludacris
