Why did you think this was a good idea to post on NS? I'm sure there are plenty of people who've fucked up similar to this on here, but they didn't go asking the NS population for advice and saved themselves an ass raping.
 
first of all...chill out.

second of all, learn to comprehend what you read...he did not burn it down a forest to build a jump, he built a jump to jump over a fire, which i assume got to big and spread out of control...on accident.

thirdly, stealing is low...you're young man, we all fuck up, pay your fine, learn from it, and move on.

pay the fine. straight up. most courts have a payment plan option.
you are so so so so so so lucky you are 17. why? because it won't come back to haunt you in your adult life. I am also a Washington resident, and employers cannot view your minor record.
I've been to jail, stolen shit, and have a criminal record. i won't make the same mistakes again!
 
this. I'm glad someone else on NS understands how much of a pain in the ass it is for shit like this to happen. The last thing this kid needs is people telling him how much he fucked up, he clearly realizes it by now. Just live, learn and move on. Like this kid mentioned, you're only 17 so don't stress it. Money ain't nothin but paper in the long run of life

learn to read. We built a small fire in some woods behind my buddies house to jump and film, because it looked cool. And it did and we did well. We had a fire extinguisher and some water in a bucket on hand in case it got out of hand.

unfortunately, it did spread a bit. So we grabbed the extinguisher, which was faulty. it read full, but when we used it, a bit of dry foam/dust came out, then nothing. We used the water while someone grabbed a hose, and we were able to effectively extinguish most of it, but as a precaution, we called the fire dept just in case. By the time they arrived (the police came too) we had just about put it all out. In total, we probably singed about 15 square ft, with at least 5sq ft of it being grass in his backyard.

they gave us a stern talking to and a bit of a punishment, but did tell us we were well prepared, but sometimes things don't go your way due to flaws in things like extinguishers. No one got hurt, and no one was ever in any real amount of danger.

but no, you're absolutely correct. Burning part of this kids yard and a few ferns is 1000x worse than shoplifting. Oh wait, my bad-according to you, i burned down yellowstone to get 1 shot of my buddy jumping it.
 
and to the op, it may be too late for this, but before you pay the fine, go into the store you stole from and ask to speak with someone from loss prevention as well as a manager. If you talk to them, explain yourself and how it was a stupid thing you regret doing, and genuinely apologize for it, they may be able to speak with some higher ups who can put it out to the people in charge of this, and get that reduced. I used to work for a store dealing with things like this, and since you are young, they might help you out a bit.

again, I don't know if you're beyond that stage, but it can't hurt to try. And just out of curiosity, what is it you were trying to steal?
 
my halfrican ( half white/ half black) friend just had the same exact situation happen to him.. dont really remember how it went down but his only punishment was a small fine($100-$200) and like 10 hours of this class, easy.. but is also banned from all Kohl's stores for the next 10 years
 
No fucktard, he said he made a small fire under the jump to gap over and it grew out of control. He didn't make a fire with the intent to burn down the forest.

oh trust me, if i personally kicked you out (doubtful) it most likely did nothing but make my day better. Depends on how the ejection goes. Can either be extremely satisfying, or awful.
 
word to that. shit, i know ive stolen shit before, its a shitty thing to do, but people do shitty stuff sometimes. this kid isn't public enemy number one, he didn't OJ anyone, he stole 15 bucks worth of shit. i couldn't think of a more minor crime, and everyones just absolutely destroying him.
 
he never told us what he stole...and people seriously downplay the value of something they stole when they get caught. If he made it free it would somehow be worth $300, but since he got caught its cheap and no big deal.

inb4 i worked a 40 hour work week at the age of 17 at a job i got 100% myself and didnt blow it on FD instead i saved so i could pay for the majority of my college and purchase my own car paying cash no car payments like the rest of you chumps

 
pretty sure you do... and you're lucky its just 700. When i was 14 i was young and stupid i stole a 4 dollar shirt at a store and my parents had to pay 1,000 bucks to the store...
