I agree with the sentiment. Also it's more fun to drive slow cars fast than fast cars slow. I will throw an APR chip into the AllTrack sometime though, just to get it close to stock WRX numbers, that's good enough.

Brothers 1g na fwd but rips on dirt and corners, seen him have meltdowns from the thing but 5 years later he loves it and it's getting better by the month, currently putting a quaife diff into it I guess.

Don’t know a ton about cars, but a friend said it’s probably the starter, is that pretty easy to fix?

It's probably easy to throw a starter in that bronco but I'd suggest going through some diagnostics/troubleshooting before throwing parts at the problem.

Did you try tapping the starter solenoid with a hammer? Did you check voltage at the starter?

What happened to it when it didn't start? Is it by chance manual?

Yes. Easier just to slap a new rebuilt starter in there than to rebuild it yourself though.

Okie doke... so I tapped it didn’t work so here’s what I did, and it did the same thing as when I tried to start it with the key, so maybe not the starter...?

Starter sounds strong. Check for 3 things when a car doesn’t start, fuel, air, spark. It’s safe to assume it’s getting air so next steps are the check and see if it’s getting fuel or spark.

If it’s sat for a while especially with ethanol gas it’s possible the fuel filter has clogged, you could also pop a line off the fuel rail and see if it’s getting clean fuel there. When you turn the ignition on can you hear the fuel pump cycle? They’re super loud on those trucks.

For spark you could pop a plug out then while cranking the engine over and see if it’s arcing or if the plug is super fouled. Just make sure to use anti seize on the thread when replacing plugs.

I have a service manual for that truck that I don’t use any more since I sold mine. I can send that to you if you want it.

In PA as long it doesn’t throw a code you can pass with a tune. How would the emissions tester know you have a tune? Would it be possible to dieselgate it?

Can you not just reflash the ecu/ecm back to the stock map, run a tank of rug, test, then reflash your tune?

Car is boosted so can’t just go back to stock tune. But you’re right, how can they know. My setup is CARB legal and obviously even more environmentally friendly on E85 with all emission systems in place. Emissions are just the governments way to mod police.

I can see both sides. We don't have it here and I think the whole smog checking thing is kinda a scam industry. Also dieselgate proves it's not really the best most accurate way to go.

On the other hand it sucks to see obvious smoggers belching on down the highway.

Hopefully there will be a better way to deal with this going forward like a better test. If nothing else it'd be nice for the state police to be able to do a roadside check on people that are pumping out black and blue smoke.

Starter sounds strong. Check for 3 things when a car doesn’t start, fuel, air, spark. It’s safe to assume it’s getting air so next steps are the check and see if it’s getting fuel or spark.

If it’s sat for a while especially with ethanol gas it’s possible the fuel filter has clogged, you could also pop a line off the fuel rail and see if it’s getting clean fuel there. When you turn the ignition on can you hear the fuel pump cycle? They’re super loud on those trucks.

For spark you could pop a plug out then while cranking the engine over and see if it’s arcing or if the plug is super fouled. Just make sure to use anti seize on the thread when replacing plugs.

She’s alive! Had a couple of vaccuum lines cinked and disconnected, been having to use some starter fluid in ‘er but she runs after putting that in....BUT it started twice yesterday without starter fluid so we’re goin somewhere!

yeah that’s a pretty irreplaceable car if there’s 3-5 of them. Good luck actually getting one since most cars that rare are in museums or private collections so they won’t go up for sale often. Also there’s plenty of 1 off Ferrari’s like the 330-p4.

I agree that cars are made to be driven but obviously the fact that a 250GTO sells for $50m+ reflects that sitting and ogling over cars is a very real purpose for some collectors. Cars worth preserving and restoring will still be around in 1000 years in museums.
