Well there ya have it, the tally isnt complete yet but the Conservatives cannot win a majority government.

Nothing is set in stone yet, ridings are reporting, but a very low % (10%) of polls are reporting.

But yeah, its likely a Tory Minority. And I am happy.

the Only thing I think it is that it sucks about the enviroment, from Quebec I'm pretty happy that we have 51 bloc quebecois for the moment. I prefer a Stephen Harper minoritarian(or something like that) with no power, then a liberal one so we can block the god damn bad things and do some good thing about the power gived to the provinces

you know what is fucking stupid ? american politics gets more air time on canadian tv than canadian politics does... bullshit i say.

Yeah In America id say a good 95% of people have no idea that there are even elctions in Canada right now. THere is hardly anything on the news about it.

There was actually. They had a pretty fair size segment on NBC nightly news, which out on the west coast was blocked out with a big blue Shaw screen, because Elections Canada wouldnt let us see any of it.

And yes, best news I've heard all night. Take that you commies!

ya that's what I was hoping for. Liberals are crooks and since Im from alberta conservative would serve me much better than NDP. Although I really didnt want a PC majority because that would be giving them too much power

In some ways the whole broadcast (particularily the panel hired by CTV) seemed a little biased towards the Conservative Party. It kind of shows when the panel was given a moment to have their final say, and conratulations to the Harper government, it consisted mainly of, "Good luck to the Harper family, they have much to celebrate tonight", somewhat snooty comments (haha snooty) if you ask me. Also, when CTV showed the clip of Harper addressing the people at Conservative HQ, it showed the part where he said , "We will do our best blah blah, and from time to time, we will make mistakes". Seems a little biased to me, and as News Broadcasters you typically don't like to see one-sided opinions.

On the other hand, there were quite a few that seemed really happy that the conservatives made it in. Mainly the West and all of Alberta (which is now completely Conservative due to McLellan (sp?) out of Edmonton) which is uplifting for me because I am Albertan. In less than a year I will be allowed to vote - OH YEAH!! I fergot, there was another thing that kind of bugged me. One member from the panel was insistent and very much convinced that the Liberals would give the CP one year for a cusion in parliament, but as soon as the year discipates, they will do all they can to return to power or atleast call another election. What garbage I think! The CP I think firmly planted themselves as leaders in Parliament for more than a year, if after 12 years was it of Liberal leadership they were beat out by a Conservative government than I think we will see CP leadership for a while to come. As well the coalition government seems like it will be very strong, all the Party leaders expressed their wishes to align with each other and talk on the issues surrounding Canada. All the Panel had to say on this one was, "Politicians may say that they will do this, it all seems wonderful, but at the end of the day they are still politicians, and I believe that they will all try to edge one another out sooner or later". It's bunk!

But there was a lot of support still. It just seemed a little biased is all.

Conservative minority, NDP will likely align to block out liberal power.

At least this might quell moves to deplete social services and care as both liberals and conservatives were engaged in, in one way or another

I was hoping for a conservative majority but this is much better than another goddamn liberal govt. You know there was actually a Marxist-Leninist candidate on my ballot? And I thought the NDP were dirty commies...

FUCK HARPER IN HIS BUSH BUDDY BUDDY ASSHOLE.

The Bush gov't doesnt need to hire any easy interns now...They got Harper as his "Right Hand Man". Fucking Fags

The only way the liberals can defeat the Conservatives in the House is by:

either getting the BLoc plus the Indp. To side with them.

The only thing the NDP can do this round is sit and watch because even if they align with teh Indp. and the Con's, they still can form a Majority.

Bascially the bloc is the swing vote...fucking great

The only thing the NDP can do this round is sit and watch because even if they align with teh Indp. and the Con's, they still can't form a Majority.

Can I just ignore the fact that we have an embarassment on parliament hill for a couple years, and have no one talk about it ever? Thank you.

uh no, Stalin more or less. Lenin was a dictator, but like a good dictator sort of thing. You should know, you have a picture of probably the most feable and dimbest dictator the soviet union ever had.

Well, I'm happy that this will shut the Bloc up once and for all. The only reason they'd been on such a roll is because of the sponsorphip scandal: sorry idiots, no more scandals to find. AND Harper has declared he was open to the fiscal problem and a more important place for Quebec in the world (not that I really care about THAT). Now what the hell do they have to say? Imbeciles... Maybe now people will notice they are useless.

I feel kind of bad for Paul Martin though, even if he was an evil centralizer (difference between centrist and centralizer). The guitar thing the other night was pretty pathetic.

Never mind that, I'm glad to have them OUT. An example I used recently... the budget of the Indian affairs minister was equivalent to giving 70 000$ BY indian. In 13 years, why hasn't their situation gotten better (they are still poor as dirt)? What the HELL have those THOUSANDS of public workers been doing in those buldings?

This government could last long by itself (no Liberal leader, Bloc afraid, NPD can't do anything), but they'll probably hold elections sooner that we think to sweep majority, because they actually CAN hold their promises. Plus, people can't claim they didn't vote for that (idiots), because Harper has always openly been to the right.

Let's just hope they don't screw this up. And by the way, yay, 10 conservatives in Quebec!!!

No one wants another election. Apart from some stupid idealist left-wing students. None of the parties want elections. The NDP did really well, they should be happy. The Liberals are destroyed, and in Debt (even though they stole federal money to fund their campaigns) so they can't even afford it. The Bloc got the crap kicked out of them, and hey, the Tories are in, so they're happy.

It's a minority people. So all of those crazy things you think Stephen Harper would do (he wasn't going to do them in the first place, but thats beside the point) CAN NOT HAPPEN. No social policy is going to be touched. It's going to be a slight and gradual change, and for the better. It's been 13 years of crap. I'll give Paul Martin credit for balancing the budget, but not much else. We piggybacked the Americans great economy during the late 90s, and we are doing well now because of Resources (Alberta) and Commodities. Ontario certaintly won't be driving our economy for long (see: Auto-industry, decimated).

So stop bitching and complaining you fucking commies. Stop asking for handouts for everything and work hard. This is the best thing that could have happened for the country.

what the hell crawled up your ass so far you havent had anything important to say in this thread. its like your trying to excersize the ns power you dont have.

Im pretty happy about the conservative minority only because of the minority part. I sort of afraid of a conservative majority because we wouldnt be able to vote of no confidence them if Harper didnt stick by his promises. Maybe Conservative is the change we needed but its hard to tell with any political platform.

I was really happy to hear about how much loss they had even if it was to the Conservatives. The Bloc are bad for Canada, its a wonder that they are even allowed to be part of Parliament.

I'm happy with the results, except for a thing or two about the Tory platform that I'm not down with: namely their stance on the Kyoto agreement. Those MPs are not the ones that will be living here 50 years down the road dealing with the massive repercussions of global warming, and I'm personally willing to spend my $ on making the world safer for us in the future.

First, in order to do a little of Liberal-bashing, the Kyoto protocol is the most hypocritical subject they ever dealt with. Of course, they signed it, but has that changed anything? No, our emissions are up some 30% or so I believe; and we are the WORST of all the signatary countries.

So if both are going to do as bad environnment wise, I prefer Tories, thanks. As for NDP, that centraliser party doesn't even merit my attention as a Quebecer sorry, maybe for uber-strong federal governmentists. Not me.

Please, Nazi comparisons are SO played. "Oh my God, this man has ideas slightly more to the right than what we're used to, he's a Nazi!". Pathetic attempt to hide your failure, communists.

Well apparently everyone knew that when they voted for Harper... and there's a fine line between little bitch young brother and friendly economic partner. You have NO idea how much we depend on them; we better make the best of it and not piss them off.

relax, it was a joke. i understand that america's not out to destroy us, and recognize that they're a benefit. i'm just saying... kinda sucks that we're following their ideals versus our own that much more now...

fuck the bloc, their separatist and therefore should not be allowed to exist as a party. we should have just kicked out the french or assimilated them instead of giving them their own province. also, it's a good thing that it's a minority, cause i don't really wanna go to war.
