Can you tie a tie?

It recently came to my attention that a lot of people cannot tie a tie. On my way to french class a kid came up to me and had i tie on that looked awful and his friend told him to take it off and have me tie it. And as i picked up by vest and tie for prom i realized the tie was a clip on, I asked the guy giving it to me if they had any normal ties up for rental and he told me "no all of our ties come pre tied." I have been tying my own ties for since I was in the third grade and is it just me or are clip on ties for 4 year olds?
So my question is, NS can you tie a tie?

I've had all kinds of people tie my ties for me, even women. See, I never dress up though. I would wear a shirt, shorts, and duct taped sandals everywhere for the rest of my life.,

I can tie a tie, but it take me a while to figure it out, I kind of guess my way through it everytime, and try again if I fail.

It's easy! about three years ago i was at a "suit-up" - themed party. i had a fancy jacket, shirt, pants, hat, and also a tie.but during the evening i partied so hard the tie had loosened and i couldn't knot it, so i folded it up and put it away in my vest.
some time later....
Apparently the neighbours had complained about the noise and two police officers came by to tell us to turn down our music a little, they were very friendly and they both wore a tie :)I was drunk, but awesome drunk; the kind of drunk where you do awesome things...so i stepped up to the officers and asked them if they could teach me how to tie a tie :)After demonstrating it 2 times i could do it :D
i high fived the cops and they left....
ever since that evening i know how to tie a tie....

I know the double and single windsor, because they're basically the same except you wind around one more time...

If that's legit that's gotta be one of the top learning to tie a tie stories.

Oh and to the op I'm 21, and last tie I wore was 2 maybe 3 years ago.

Yep. Since my freshman year at HS. I'll be a senior this coming year which means i can finally rock a bow tie haha, but i have yet to learn how to tie one of those.

oh and sry for doub post but my dad taught me when i was little and would make me tie his afterwards for some reason, havent done it since then but i could figure it out.

i can tie one myself but i cant help other people tie one. it has to be on me or i get all confused haha

i go to a private highschool which requires us to wear dress pants or cords and a shirt n tie. for 3 years ive had my dad tie all my ties and at the end of the day i just loosen them and put them on the hook. i do not no how to tie a tie. its bad.

Nope i cant. Everytime i need to i just go to youtube 5 minutes before and try my best to tie it and if my job sucks then i just get other people to do it. Youtube tutorials ftw.

haha ive been wearing one five days a week for three years. my uniform is shirt and tie and pressed pants. beat as hell

haha my pops cant tie one either

i think hes probably only wore a suit a few times anyway, who needs to look fancy in this day and age?

I learn every year or so when I actually need to wear a tie but then I forget how to do it. I think I got it down by now though....

Multiple people in this thread have said things like "double windsor". There is no such knot. there is the half windsor, which is good, and the windsor, which is a terrible knot and should pretty much never be used by anyone.

For young people there are only 3 knots you need to know: 4 in hand, pratt, and half windsor. You don't really need to know all 3, just learn a 4 in hand and you'll be fine.
