Calabogie Peaks Park

Just giving everyone a little insight to what will be in the Peaks Park this winter. the park is being moved to the main run right between the quad chairs, same place it was 3 years ago.

which we are planning to have up by christmas:

all the rails from last year have been fixed up and are ready to go, flat down, double barrel, rainbow and c/rainbow. This year we arranged a partnership with Top Of The World and they are helpin us get a couple more rails, 10flat 10 down 10 flat, 8 down 8 flat 12 down, 20ft flat, 8 up 10 accross and 8 down, 10 flat 20 down. all the new rails will be double barrels. we also will have a assorment of boxes, the main one being our new wave box gap to wave box. a 12 ft high wall ride is also in the works.

of course we are planningon having a couple small 10-30ft table but the main jump feature will be a 30 footer into a 50-60footer.

we started blowing snow on the run thursday so hopefully i can start gettin things worked out this week coming up.

later,

andy

i will belieive it when i see it stewart......

wow. im thinkin calabogie will have the best park in the area...

'I heard that Richard Gere gerbils. That is, he inserts gerbils into a paper towel tube, which he then sticks up his butthole. I don't doubt this, because he asked me if i wanted to come over to his house and gerbil. I insisted that he come over to MY house, since the whole thing seemed weird. As a practical joke, i attached a bucket of water to the top of the door so that when he opened it, I beat him with a mannequin leg.'-Skydaddy

calabogie was a dissapointement for me last year. I heard al lthis hype about their park but i think i remmember 2 rails, a down kink and a c-rail, oh ya, some little things at the bottom too. But ya, the jumps were the most disgusting(bad, contrary to what some may think) thing i've seen. The lips were falling apart, the takeoffs were too short or too long and gave you know pop, all floaters. I hope there is an improvement this year or i'll continue my treks to tremblant every weekend.

Justin the Hick

good luck, hope you get some real better jumps to go with all the rails that may appear there.

if it actually happens I might be getting a seasons pass at calabogus

Well i just got back from the hill today. And I had a nice talk with our safety guy and we will have a couple rails and maybe a jump set up for this weekend but all the other stuff should be ready by christams, at the latest new years.

and just so everyone knows, at least last year calabogie peaks had a 50 foot table from jan on unlike tremblant which had 2 little 15 footers all year and then in the end of march throws a 50 footer in.

later

andy

Alls i know is that Calibogie is getting a race track!! It going to have elevation changes, s turns, I think even a hairpin. I'll have to look again.

AND the owner says motorcycles are defaintly allowed!! WOO WOO

Which rails are gonna be set up? And also, try hard to set up a jump, it would be nice. Are you saying all the stuff is going to be up and fully fonctioning by christmas? If so, that would be sick.

-Michael Lifshitz-

There will be the 20ft double barrel set up. sorry no jump we only have like 50cm's of base right now.

now lets discuss the differences between Calabogie and Tremblant:

Tremblant is a Intrawest hill, they have a huge budget and a certain bunch of staff that take care of the park every day.

At Calabogie Peaks we got a 1000$ from the hill to make rails and boxes. And I am the only staff that just works on the park. the odd time i can get other people to help.

At tremblant they have huge amount of insurance, and they don't have to worry about lawsuits because they're insurance company will take care of it.

At Calabogie we are a family owned operation which means we don't have a big corporation backing us giving us lots of money for anything we might think we need. just puttin the rail in last night we did it all in the dark and we dind't have a sled.

at calabogie i have to hound people all day just to get a sled or cat time and tremblant they have their own sleds and they get as much cat time as they want.

it is pretty hard to compare the two because of the difference in support by the hill. But still with all that tremblant has, Calabogie Peaks was the only hill around the ottawa area and even tremblant that had a 50ft table all year. so if you guys like riding little jumps all year, good rails(they did have the tightest rail set up i think) paying almost 60$ for a lift ticket, waiting in huge lift lines, then tremblant is ur place. but if you want to push ur jumping this winter check out calabogie's park, we will have a 50 footer by new years plus all the rails which i mentioned above and a couple more jumps all different shapes and sizes. i personally think the jumps were really good last year, and the only way i could see how someone wouldn't like them is if they were casing or over shooting the landings.

later,

andy

that will be sweet a 50 footer. how big was the jump last year?? i hope to get up before school starts up again. I honestly think that for calabogie budget it is a really good park. Tremblant is better because they get so much more snow also so it is easier to make bigger jumps and they are able to make alot more snow and they can stay open alot longer. SO if you dont like calabogie too bad it is a really good hill.

yea, but those jumps are soo sketchy cos their all step downs and the transitions aren't the greatest.

not saying anything against calabogie, or repping for tremblant.

however, it may have been the only 50 footer in the area, but i would rather session a smooth 20 ft. jump then those sketchy hits at bogus.

Unfortunatly the rain did affect the amount of snow we have on the hill. today when we got there the rails that were set up were surrounded by bulletproof sheet of ice and we were forced to take everything out.

Tonight we will be blowing snow, so there is a possiblilty we might have something for sunday.

later,

andy

Hye just wondering how the park will be on new years eve. Are they closing early for new years eve??. How is the hill - runs open, conditions, any rails or hits in the park

thanks

conditions. icy, stuff set up. nothing, fun factor. minimal, welcome to the east my friend.......
