I love newschoolers! Its been fun, I am going to serve a religious mission for the LDS church in Bangalore, India. No snow there, but oh well should be a great experience. I guess I am just saying thank you for all the laughs, the late nights, advice and the whole community here on newschoolers. Ill have to get some recap of the last two years when I get back. Hope the world hasn't ended. Bye NS.

I'm pretty sure they have internets in India, but, is it going to be one of those deteached from society things...happy traveling

I'm not a religious guy but good for you man! Hope you enjoy it, I'm sure it will be a great experience and maybe give you a new outlook on the world. I would love to travel overseas and just experience the different cultures and see how different the world really is.

I don’t think LDS are allowed to do anything that puts them at any sort of risk when they are on their missions. Even things like swimming, seems odd to me, but thats my opinion.

Have an amazing time, should be a truly unique experience. Really wanting to get out east and do some travelling/volunteering.

Stay safe

nice doood you wont regret it! i just got back from my mission to Scotland and Ireland. been home about 3 months. good luck and I hope your first winter back is better then mine

2 years would scare the fuck out of me. congrats to have the balls to pull that off though even though it has questionable reasonings.

jeez, two years from now ill see a thread, welcome me home ns! and shit;ll be real when i remember the good-bye thread. hahagood luck dude, happy travels!

I'll be the one to say it: that sounds fucking awful. A couple weeks in an exotic country would be cool, but TWO YEARS?! fucking hell. What's worse is knowing that your time there is completely wasted proselytizing.

Honestly, I would sacrifice ten years at the end of my life to get two extra in my prime. You have to be completely fucking brainwashed to willingly blow such a large portion of your life like this.

Anyways, enjoy your time in Bangalore (or whatever). I'm glad I'm not you!

hey man dont knock it till you try it. im in poland right now, 18 months deep as a missionary. Yeah it aint the easiest thing, yeah im in poland, yeah im a little detached from the world. But what we do is service. We try every day to go out and help people in the best way we know how. That doesnt mean i go out and i shove ulotki (flyers i guess..? i never used that word in english) in peoples' faces, but i meet people who are really searching to find something, and i show em whats up from my side. In addition ive done my fair share of volunteering at special needs hospitals, cleaning up farms, and (manual service).

but yeah i dont know man, i just think you should try to look at things from other perspectives.

for example:

i wouldnt know if a 9 mm glock or a 9 sig sauer would be a better gun choice, but i would probably go kick it with you, "ghettoThug" and you could show me the ropes... who knows, selling dope and shooting people might grow on me...

have a good one. cheers from poland

dont want to turn this thread into an anti-lsd thing, but i want to show my "story".

i live in austria. here jehovahs witnesses are almost literally annoying with their whole missionary thing. BUT I HAVE YET TO SEE ONE TRYING TO CONVERT ME.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN THOUGH and experienced is that someone like OP/you went up to me during a 5-minute bus ride and gave me some sort of invitation to a weekly information thingy. there were also information stands and shit i passed by a few days during summer on my way to university.

so while it didnt affect me really, i just plain and simple hate the fact that some western, christian organisation would undertake such concentrated converting efforts. not in middle europe, not in eastern europe, not in asia or africa.

i know you dont hurt people and shit, but i thought we as a civilization were over this whole "missionary" thing.
