*chuckle* chem was my best subject thru college. you see, the most economical way to produce hydrogen in commercially useful quantities is from methane, which happens to contain 4 hydrogen molecules, which beats water all to shit. methane is simply decomposed chemically, producing mainly CO and CO2 (pollutants) and hydrogen (H2). To obtain H2 from water, you must use electrolysis to break the strong and chemically unique bonds between the hydrogen and oxygen, which requires vast ammounts of electricity and costs about 2/3 more.
