It seems that, effectively, some iraqi way back in the day dumped out the contents and buried the containers (check out the pictures on Reuters.com; you think that these shells are usable?)

Yes, he had a weapons program, we knew that, nobody was going to argue that; what you conservative thinkers here don't realize is that we GAVE him those weapons to fight the Iranians during and immediately after their revolution in '79.

No evidence has yet been brought to the public that saddam was ever developing these weapons himself; by the way, the administration promising that the weapons are there doesn't constitute evidence.

the more i read this thread the more disgusted i get; 'liberal' and 'conservative' are not dirty words, nobody is insulted when you call them that, if they are they are stupid. virtually everybody on both sides is just slingin mud back and forth at each other; really productive. Realistically, none of us know the whole story; it's going to take years for anybody to sift through all of the (what i consider) lies are being thrown at us by our current government.

and wasnt the reason for ousting saddam the repeated un violations? that had gone unchecked for 12 years? i swore it had something to do with that... and the fact that we were worried that saddam was harboring terrorists... but it was totally legitimized by the un violations as far i am aware.

I think He's done a good job. If you think about it, the economy crashed because Clinton's policy OVER INFLATED the economy, it was doomed to fall, and those of us who Have actually been paying attention to the economy, it now is growing HUGELY, and NOT on fakely, this time it is solid.

no. the basis of the war agianst iraq was that saddam had illegal WMD's. These weapons have yet to be found, and in fact Bush and Blair fabricated evidence to support their war. As to comments about harbouring terrorists, that is bullshit. Al-quida has had a long standing feud with Saddam Hussain, as they do not view him as a 'real' muslim. e.g. not fundamentalist enough. It is hardly likely that they would forget all their differences just because of a combined hatred of the US.

 
those were all reasons, granted, but there is one reason that legitimizez the whole operation, namely the repeated un violations by saddm from 1992 until he was bootjacked out of power. all the wmd talk and whatnot was usefull for getting support, but as far as it being 'leagal' or 'legitamate' we had all the cause that we needed. and now saddam is history, so great. and as far as having no connection with al quaida, there was some talk a month or so ago about documents seized from saddam that detailed the presence of one or more of the 911 hijackers at a camp in iraq... it came from the london daily telegraph if i am not mistaken. i am pretty sure that terrorists would be happy to overlook saddams lack of religious piety in order to further their cause against the west....

Saddam was a shitthead, no doubt, but with a little money and supplies (dropped in by air directly to the groups rebelling agenst saddam, they could get the job done for themselves. or perhaps, if we didn;t put trade embargos on Iraq they wouldn;t be starving in the first place. this war, Operation Iraqi Liberation (O.I.L.) is about oil! we are gonna install a USA frendlt leader (no matter what form of goverment it happens to be) and we are gonna get cheap oil from Iraq. (and ya, right now we don't get too much oil from Iraq but we will once that all starts)

we have been to the moon so i dont see why we area all for it, like i know that there hasnt beeen a moon mission in a long time, but we should try going to mars, however i dont htink bush's plan will con over that many people. didn't clinton recieve quite a bit of intelligence regarding wmds in iraq? he thought they had them. british intelligence uncovered the same thing, as did bush's. it seems odd to me that all three of these reliable sources would fuck up that bad. im not necessarily a big bush lover or anything, im very undecided on who i'll vote for, kind of depends on who gets the dem nomination, but i definitely believe that saddam was up to no good.

yes, clinton received the same intelligence and it was documented by the UN given that their inpectors were not granted entry to the country for 10+ years. it is funny because it gives bush haters something to use against the presidency....even though though clinton had the same intell. opposing sides will use what ever they can to incurr their ideals....even if that means beating the dead horse of GW.

i supported the war, but bush wont stand up to isael and wont tell them to stop commiting atrocities to the palestinians. i think kerry, or clark, or edwards are gonna be the best for the job. Libertarian party is awesome too....
