Broken fibula recovery

hey i fractured my fibula in two places and i completly snapped my tibia in half. its logged up against the skin making about a two inch hump. if the cut on top of the hump were a half an inch deeper the doctor said the bone would be outside of the skin. it hurts like shit, and i'm going to chile this summer and laax but if i cant recover then im not going. the doctor said it would be about an eight week recovery but i wanted to know if anyone had any "ma and pa" ways to make it heal quicker and to kill the pain. thanks +++++k to anyone that can help

Well, I broke my tibia and febula both completly in half, it took 3 months of cast, and 1 month of rehab.

damn, thats exactly what i didnt want to hear. did you have anyways to reduce the pain. i did it this morning and every little move hurts

If your tibia is broken in half, get a cast. you'll suffer way less if you don't have one right now. and he should give you some pain-relief, and actually, while sleeping, keep your foot above your head, the less blood pressure, the less it's gonna be painful. and REST IT. don't try to walk on it early of the rehab is simply gonna be longer.

same deal here with 2 month rehab. i had to get surgery to get a plate and 5 screws in. then about a year later I got the plate and screws removed.

i broke both a while back and i was a maniac and ran around my house on crutches all the time. one time i slid out, landed on the broken leg and rebroke it. 12 weeks in a cast from mid thigh to my toes.

basically dont be retarted and drink tons of milk!!!!:D

i broke my tibia and i didnt even think about getting stronger for like 3 months. i was planning to go to windells but luckily i didnt book. took me a long time to get 100 % again. i got surgery too but still. and you did even more damage than i did

ya my fib kind of bent out of place when i broke my tib and as it was bending back to normal it shifted my tibia which is why i ended up needing surgery. i went 2 weeks witg a cast before i found out i needed an operation

+kkkkk to anyone that replied with +vibes. And yea i got pain killers and im going to the ortho tomarrow to get a cast. Went through our whole gallon of milk today. Anyone else that can help me out gets 10/10 k too. It hurts like shit. Thanks abunch

same thing for me, but closer to 4 months in a cast and 3 for rehab. the doctors said it would be 8 weeks, then they said 12 weeks, and it ended up being 15 weeks.

im not trying to get you down , and i am by no means saying you will have a 15 month recovery, but just keep everything in perspective. its a big injury and dont take it for granted that you will recover quickly.

hopefully you do though, +vibes i know its tough.

i had a very similar injury about 2 years ago. i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they told me i would be totally healed in about 8 weeks. i finally got my cast off in 4 months, had to get 2 surgeries, and could not participate in anything more strenuous than walking for about 9 months. and i still have a large bump on my leg and the skin is filled with disgusting brown fluid. and most of the nerves in my leg are dead.

but everyone heals differently. as soon as you can bear it, put weight on it. this will encourage bone growth. calcium supplements are useless without vitamin D. drink lots of milk. pm me if you have any other questions. ++++ vibes!! heal fast!!! Good luck.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++k (really 10/10 k) to anyone that told me the straight truth and/or gave me tips. thanks alot ns! tips/stories are still welcome as you may see your karma count start to rise!!! Im drinking a ton of milk. lots of strong pain killers (my doctor gave them to me i am not an oxycotton addict). sleeping alot. and my cast is legit we got it all jet black and we made a stencil with exacto knives to make a ninthward skis logo, and on the back there is a skullcandy/db logo. we used gnar glossy gold paint for the stencils. and we talked to my doctor were going to get me in rehab early for a super speedy recover! and most of all positive vibes!!!

you can only see one of my spots where i broke my fibula. and i dont think i have a pic of the bone pushing the skin up

thats a sick xray haha i never got mine from the hospital :( i should have though

any word on surgery? the surgeon took one look at my leg and realigned it with his hands, so i didnt have to get surgery although it probably would have been less painful then getting the bones wrenched around until the lined up

not having surgery did reduce my time in a cast apparently though

nah because im growing (im only 13 and im right in the middle of pubery) and the orthopedic said if i did that the rod would run right through my growth plates, either making it alot longer or alot shorter than the other leg. he still thought about it though. that would look pretty fire skiing though i guess haha

Dude I'd prolly cancel those plans to chile and laax if you plan on skiing. It's your leg for gods sake. You don't want it to be fucked up for the rest of your life.

And for the healing process your bone needs to grow back, and that will take time.

Ahhhhh bro...very sorry to hear that. I broke my fib and fractured my foot my first day in Whistler this year on a family reunion ski holiday, the day before my birthday! Launching over pow rollers, only for there to be a huge rock hidden behind the last one.

I go to school in Halifax get to ski a week at Whistler and maybe a few days in Nova Scotia each year, so it drove me insane. However, as I write this, I'm sitting up in bed, waking up to sunshine in Whistler. I am a die hard skier, and I have waited since December 19th to get back on the hill. Here are some suggestions:

- eat well. while you moss out, your body is working it's ass off to attach bones, feed the fire.

- keep it elevated for almost a month right after the recovery, this is crucial.

- respect every medical opinion you hear

- dont smoke too much weed, it only makes it more depressing!

- be around your friends, and dont forget the ones who were good to you. when they want to get you out to have fun, let them.

- wait. it's a long time, but now I'm back where it started, and I can tell you that it felt like yesterday.

Hope this helps. Stay strong!

(i also plan on finding my rock, and destroying it - how, i do not know)
