Boring white guy (Paul Ryan) picked as boring white guy (Mitt Romney)'s VP

We need the free market to speed up and start spending again. It is not right now because of the uncertainties on what to invest in. Whats causing these uncertainties are our governments drawn out attempts to pass legislation with the purpose to improve different parts of the economy. If we take the governments ability to make these changes out its hands, than we will in-turn let the free market naturally determine its course.
Now if you read my previous post than you'd see that I highlighted the investment in our education system. What must go along with this though is the raised awareness on the studies of business and economics. We need highly qualified teachers to teach these as core subjects with an un-biasied rhetoric, having them as electives allow the students the choice of if they want to study in them or not. It can no longer be a choice. We do this an business ethics will become regarded as one of our countries highest values. If we value business ethics than consumers can then start to find our trusts back with corporate business's so that there would be no need for government restrictions.

We need to adopt the articles of confederation as our new constitution. The federal government has not only become too large, but has become a government body who has lost the ability to represent all of its constituents in an efficient manner because of the two party system. The only function of the federal government should be its necessary functions. If you don't know what these are than I suggest you retake US History (not directed just to you ben, but to everyone who's reading this).

Gee well I guess that's why America is the only 1st world country in the world without socialized healthcare...

Let me ask you this... Why is it that you're fine with everyone having the right to highways and roads but not having the right to have access to affordable healthcare that would save and not bankrupt thousands of people every year?

Do you even pay for your own health insurance? Americans are laughed at by other countries because we have to make decisions to save money over our health. Hell I have broken or maybe bruised ribs but I don't care because I don't want to pay the thousand bucks to pay for x-rays just for the diagnosis. Another friend of mine just recently busted his big toe but he won't go to the docs to find out what's wrong because it would cost him a couple hundred dollars to diagnose and treat the problem. We both have coverage.

Did you know that doctors will not test for every possibility for what's wrong with you because the hospitals have incentive programs that pay out those who save them money by not running the very expensive tests even though its at the expense of the patient's health?

The only people who are against Obama's healthcare overhaul are ignorant to what the law actually entails (one of which bars insurance companies from not providing coverage due to BS pre-existing condition reasons), or have never experienced the healthcare system or are filthy rich and it doesn't matter. Which one are you?

Mitt Romney was considered too liberal for being governor of mass or whatever. Thats why he got an incredibly conservative running mate, to secure the hardcore conservative vote

How come we never hear of the word compromise being tossed around congressional debates anymore? Now correct me if Im wrong, but wasn't that how our founding fathers settled their differences. What this country needs is one massive compromise. We need the republicans to give up their traditional values and the progressives to give up their hopes and aspirations with social programs.

Agreed, but it seems both sides always just want the other to do the compromising. Which is rather counterintuitive when it comes down to it haha.

that made me laugh +K, Mitt can be conservative or partially liberal depending on the audience.

/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

rock head, that is a suiting name for that asshole.

As a conservative the shit he says is just fucking stupid.

Because that hurts their ability to become an incumbent. You compromise you're beliefs with the opposing party and in the next election someone from you're same party and they will get the vote campaigning on the fact that they wont compromise. Its as simple as that.

America may be the only country without socialized medicine, but theres a reason why. Because its not in our constitution. If the founding fathers felt that it was the governments responsibility to take care of our health than they would of put it in the constitution. Why would they though, Americans back then didn't live the unhealthy lifestyle so many do today. What people also assume to forget is that as we increase our knowledge and technology in medicine, we increase the cost. Maybe Doctors wouldn't feel the need to get paid a lot if they didn't have to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars on tuition fees for grad school (which are ridiculous but preventable btw, I decided to use my brain and decided to save thousands of dollars by going to a community college to get my core credits).
In the end though, if Americans were motivated enough to not only fix our economy, but get jobs, than we would have a lot more people who could privately afford health insurance. See the whole notion of socialized medicine comes with the idea that our economy will never get better because logic would have it that a good economy translate into more people with health insurance. Of course there are still going to be people without insurance, but those will be the people who aren't taking advantage of the good economy.

Haha nice one. To bad you're connotation of my username couldn't be more wrong. Its Rockshead because of the fact that Im a die hard Colorado ROCKIES fan, you know, the baseball team.
Also, I doubt that you have even read what I wrote in this thread. I applaud you're refutation at labeling you're self as a conservative so you can sound like you know what you're talking about. Too bad everybody in this world is different, even conservatives.

The translation, interpretation, or even the effectiveness of our constitution is an entirely different debate. What shouldn't be a debate is the validity of the values in our constitution because they are our societies guide lines and with out them we wouldn't be operating as a democratic republic type of government we were formed to be. So therefore I am not clinging to a document, I am clinging to the democracy it represents. If you think that is foolish than you must think the founding fathers are foolish because they formed our government based on an ideology that was thousands of years old at the time.
Just a piece of my two cents, but maybe you should start "clinging" you're self to this document as well because if you're not, than you can move to an other country where you could see you self clinging to their ideology because Im not going to watch ours disappear into thin air.

1. The constitution is a 200 year-old document that has 27 amendments to it and countless other laws that are in no way related to the constitution in order to try to make laws relevant to changing times and a changing country that are in modern times. Your point is useless. By your logic that because identity fraud by hacking computers isn't in the Constitution then it shouldn't be illegal, right? Why are ponzi schemes illegal when that's not in the Constitution? Shit man, they def. should be legal if its not there!

2. Saying that doctors won't be motivated to go trough med school if their pay might be decreased by socialized healthcare is an OPINION. I'd love to see the studies that prove this point you're trying to make. Show me this and I may entertain this absurd idea that's born straight off the producers of the biased medias that you claim to hate.

3. You never answered my question on my last post. Which are you? There are plenty of people out there that don't have good luck and end up with serious diseases and illnesses that require much more money than that family has. Surprisingly this is including my brother who has chronic kidney failure which will eventually require more money than my family has to save his life even though we have all been working hard our whole lives. What experience do you have in this department?

You say you don't listen to biased news organizations but your argument can easily be from the list of prompts that pundits are given in order to feed mindless morons like yourself the idea of agendas that focus on profits rather than your or mine or my brother's well being.

Have you even read the details of the healthcare overhaul? I can guarantee that you haven't because any sensible person, regardless of political affiliation (I'm republican btw) will agree with what's being implemented even though its not perfect. Its a step in the right direction.

If you bust your ass and make $200,000 you will be living extremely comfortably no matter how much you pay in taxes. You'll never worry about feeding your kids or paying the mortgage. The people on government assistance do.

Whether you realize it or not, being brought up in a household with responsible parents making a comfortable income is a huge advantage. If you do end up making 200K a year it will no doubt be because you worked hard. But it is important to remember that your upbringing was a huge advantage. An advantage that a lot of people didn't have. I also had that advantage and I made the most of it. I also pay a considerable amount of taxes. I don't see the harm in helping some people that weren't as fortunate.

Oh and I agree with having as small of a governing body as possible but there are certain rights that everyone is deserving of including the right to live a healthy life. The only problem with that is that government is the only way to insure that right, much like the right to travel proper roads to wherever you want. How can you be against that if you claim to be an independent thinking mind, regardless of your political affiliation?

This falls more along the lines of common sense which surprisingly enough seems to be void of many of our constituents.

Here's another question... how well do you know the people that represent your party? I'm guessing it isn't much other than what color they wear on their sleeves or who gives them their "contributions" to their campaigns.

I am sorry about you're brother. +++ vibes to him, but that still doesn't change my opinion.
Is it not true that you and you're family would have more money in you're pockets if you did not get taxed as much?
Seeing as to how there is only one answer to my previous question I'll go ahead and ask you my other one. Wouldn't more money in you're families pocket be a good thing seeing as how you said that you're brothers medical costs and I quote "require more money than my family has." This way you guys can pay for you're own medical bills and you wont have to rely on the wallets of others.
Taxes are suppose to go towards something that everyone benefits from, not just a particular individual. Infrastructure, for example is a necessary function payed for by taxes in which everyone uses and one that no one has to qualify for. If you have to qualify for a tax benefit than there is something wrong with that picture, know what Im saying.

So we should pay for the medical bill of a person who lived an unhealthy lifestyle because its the responsibility of our government to protect the healths of all our citizens? Thats bullshit, its the responsibility of our government to teach us how to live a healthy life style because if you don't, than you'll get sick.
I think it is the constituents like you who do not have common sense. Fucking freeloaders are a drag on the over all well being of our society. Why the fuck should we help them out when they don't do a god dam thing in return. Here is some common sense for you miss genius, you give back what you take. Get it? Got it? Good.

I dont think thats the problem most people have. Its helping the people who really don't need it, people that are very capable of paying rent and feeding there family s on their own. It would be awesome if no one abused it, but thats not the case.

Exactly. This is it. This is the problem I and many others have.

Think of it like this. You work an entire summer and make 10 grand. You have a friend who doesnt work a single day, yet part of your paycheck is given to him. How much would that suck? Id hate it. (I know this isnt 100% accurate, but considering there is a large portion of this website who is 15 and under, maybe this will make sense.)

Why should we save poor sick people who won't save our lives in return? Hah!

hmmmm I smell a troll, you can't be serious. that was one of the most ignorant things I've seen you post on this site, and from what I've seen you post a lot of stupid bullshit. If you truly think that you're a selfish little shit! fuck you.

Oh absolutely. If no one abused it that would be great. But if we give assistance to 5 people who don't deserve it in order to give assistance to the one kid who really needs the help. Who really needs the food to eat and a place to sleep. Is it worth it? I think so.

Again where's your proof that the tax money would go to people who choose to live unhealthy lifestyles?

And also you're a fucking idiot to say that Obama's healthcare overhaul plan, which you just confirmed that you have not a clue about, is going to make everyone pay for other persons medical bills.

Oh and here's a source you're going to love that supports "Obamacare" http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/03/28/5-reasons-obamacare-is-already-good-for/

Wow, amazing right? Even though most of their shit is just shit, sometimes they do decide to present the facts, just not on TV.

Also to compare the hundreds of dollars to the hundreds of thousands of dollars saved by those who work hard that are struck by bad luck luck is again, stupid.

So once again, where are your facts to back up your claims and you've failed once more to answer my question in my first post. Coincidence? I think not. The only difference between you and me is that I use logic and you do not.

In essence, fuck you, you ignorant fuck.

You've grown up in Massachusetts which is a state that benefited greatly off ROMNEYCARE which is very similar to this new healthcare overhaul as well as other "liberal" ideals that Romeny now opposes. How in the fuck can you be against something that has proven to help your state? Oh that's right, its because you're an ignorant child that has never seen a medical bill.

God do I hate people that complain "I'm not rich" "$200,000 a year isn't a lot of money." Really? I mean come on. Like you said 200,000 a year is plenty enough money. My friends dad makes probably that much if not a little more. They have a $1.2 million house right on the Puget sound with a crazy view. These people can handle more taxes.

The problem goes deeper though. Big businesses weasel their way through loop holes so they only pay a fraction of taxes than they are supposed to. This shit should be illegal. Big corporations are getting away with crazy amounts of money and paying less taxes than any of of do.

/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

So let me get this straight, you're logic would have it so that you have to of had received a medical bill in order to have an opinion on health care reform. Oh and I am suppose to be the ignorant one. So ignorant in fact that you automatically assume that if you disagree with socialized medicine than you in turn have never experienced the process of paying a medical bill. If thats the case, why are there millions of Americans who pay their bills in its entirety while having the same views that I do? What a flipping phenomenon huh.
And to answer you're question about where are my facts, I don't need any facts because I know that the government has to pay for peoples medical bills some how under obama care. So wether thats through the wallets of the tax payer or through the process of adding to our already substantial debt, or even both, in the end it has negative effects on our economy no matter how you look at it.
Lastly, to the guy who claims me as being selfish for not wanting to pay for the poors health care costs. If being financially wise comes with the cost of being a selfish prick than so be it. My ultimate goal in life is to find a career which will allow me to be financially stable enough to support my self and my potential family. If I feel that I don't have enough money to cover the cost of a family than I'll use my brain and wont start a family and don't give me the excuse that pregnancies accidentally happen sometimes because the are 100% preventable. I don't want the government taking money from me that I don't benefit from no matter how rich I may become. Never in my right mind would I change my goal to include that of the poor who I have no personal relationship with. If Im rich enough some day, than I plan on donating to a non-profit organization of my choice because no one or body should have the right to force a wealthy individual to help the less fortunate. That is purely a personal decision.
I have also made this personal decision to help the less fortunate before on many different occasions. I for example constructed a campaign to fill 200 backpacks worth of school supplies which I sent to the less fortunate children in Iraq who just had a new school built for them by our US military for my Eagle Scout project. (Believe or not, but the dollars allocated towards our military budget aren't all spent on missiles and bombs!) Yeah, so I consider myself to be very selfish you fucking jack ass.

Yeah because the want to maximize their profits so they don't go bankrupt. Do you know what happens when business's go bankrupt, the lay off employees which isn't a good thing fyi. You cant blame these corporations for wanting to maximize their funds so they can pay their employees who WORK for them and not the government who does not WORK for them. Americans apparently don't know the definition of work and labor.

No, the truth is that you cant find facts with out bias behind them these days. Everything is crafted to with a bias behind it and you apparently do not have enough brain cells to realize this. And a puppet, really? Wow, you really don't have any brain cells.

I'm not sure weather you are a troll, a dumbass, or just miss informed?

The top 10 MOST PROFITABLE corporations payed 9% in taxes. Exon Mobile payed 2% in taxes and there have been years where they have payed no taxes. Last year Exon made $72 BILLION. Most of that money goes to pay CEO's, executives and lobbyists. Not to making jobs. CEO's of big organizations still make mad bank even when they fuck their company over hard. Its the workers who pay when the CEO and exects ram their company up the ass, when it should be the other way around. It's been proven that tax breaks for the top 1% doesn't work. You have to build the economy from the bottom up.

Hey. I pay my taxes and always have. I fully expect to get back what I paid on them relative to how much in assets I have, in things that will bail me the fuck out if shit goes pearshaped.

I'm not even asking for a bazillion dollar bailout due to my situation as a bank. I'm not 'too big to fail' or anything, I just want some simple help in times of need from the government. If anything, at least I feel like theres a bit of a buffer zone if you will, and won't have to stress so much over whether or not my healthcare plan covers things, and if the insurance companies would find some loophole out of giving me what i've paid into... (which would potentially put me in the hospital anyways...)

Riddle me this one by the way. Isn't insurance just collectivism anyways, only with a middle man who might not give you what you've been paying for? Least that's how I see it, so I don't understand why that being privatized is so much better - especially when their profits are more important than your health.

Personally, I've been pretty unsatisfied with Car Insurance companies when it comes to helping me out when I need it, and there have been plenty of other people like me put in the same situation. Why should I have faith in health insurance companies over the government? Least when one of them fucks me over I have a slight amount of power when it comes to having a vote.

i'll just throw this out there...

Romney is a complete shark. He has convinced a significant amount of the country that he is not... a millionaire, a ruthless businessman, or the type of guy that totally favors corporations and profit. He has recognized the gain he has personally in politics and exploited it perfectly to the extent that he now runs for president. Im not voting for him( or obama) but damn that guy has a gift.

Funny how the only president to resign over committing illegal acts was the one to support and pass the current fuck-up that

we now call privatized healthcare...

I hate Moore as much as the next person because he self-admittedly is making profit off of important social issues but that doesn't exclude the fact that he actually presents facts... unlike those who oppose socialized healthcare who don't provide any facts but only opinions, as admitted already by that jackass in this thread.

What's next? A debate over whether homos don't deserve to be treated equally because they don't share the same values as your religion? Man Paul Ryan would back you up on that one....

There's one rule that comes with living in America and that is that a large number of Americans are retarded and spending the energy trying to convince them that they're indeed retarded is useless. Hell they don't even use facts. How can you debate that?

This bubble that burst in 2008 had been building ever sense Reagan(gop) appointed allen Greenspan a banker to run the securities and exchange commission the park of the government that controls the banks Greenspan with the help of lobbyist from various banks like jp morgan the one he used to be the ceo of over turned laws that were put into affect after the great depression to prevent crises like that from happening again. With the help of Greenspan and lobbyist banks were deregulated. Now what romney wants to do is deregulate banks again after laws were put into place in '09 and '10 to regulate them and get them back into order. This is where romney lost my vote yea president obama isn't the best but none of them ever are he doesn't believe in deregulating banks which is a very republican idea after they want the market to run it self and want smaller government that stays out of business like that but people are too greedy and banks need to be regulated if you don't think so look at what iceland did just before they went bankrupt.

If you got taxed less than you wouldn't have to stress so much about things going to shit because you would consistently be making more money than you are now and wouldn't have to rely on a tax return that you get once a year. It financially makes sense to get paid in more frequent intervals than it does to receive all that money you could of made on a consistent basis all at once. That of course only applies to us who don't receive a salary and live pay check to pay check.
As for our insurance companies, I believe the problems associated with them are a direct effect of the poor economy. I mean they are business's after all and its not like business's aren't struggling to make a buck in this economy. Just because they are insurance unfortunately doesn't mean that they aren't capable of suffering the effects of a shitty economy. From a business perspective, the slow economy forces insurance companies to shift away from offering competitive packages because they would have no way to earn a profit if they did. They also are backing away from offering competitive prices because of the uncertainties caused by our governments attempts at healthcare reform. So we, the consumers are placed in a market where there are no advantages what so ever when it comes to shopping for policies. Essentially every company is offering the same policies for the same price which in turn allows them to fuck us over because we don't have the option of switching over to a company that offers a better deal.
While I'll admit that it sucks that this is what we have to deal with, I at the same time believe that allowing the feds to stick their nose in to help solve this problem will only delay the recovery of our economy. We don't want to perform permanent legislation to what is only a temporary issue. I truly believe that when the economy gets back on track and when our government leaves the private sector insurance companies alone, than we will start to see these companies offer fair priced deals and they will then finally be able to offer competitive prices without the fear of going bankrupt.

This is where the term monitor comes into place and is a term commonly practiced here on this very web site. If our government monitored the actions of these banks than we could allow the market to flow without government regulation, and when they perceive corruption going on than they can stick their noses in and stop it before it gets any worse. We do this and our corporate CEO's will know that they cant afford to fuck up because the government is watching their every move. While regulation prevents corruption, it also slows down the business of those companies who abide by the ethics they are originally suppose to. The last thing you want in a recovering economy is slow business because slow business means bad business.
The ironic thing here is that the government officials concerned with government regulation are also fueling the fire to these social programs while ignoring and essentially encouraging the corruption that is slowly destroying them. Obamas dismal of the work for welfare act pretty much deregulated the welfare program because you know don't have to show proof of work or job training to receive welfare benefits. That my friend is irony at its finest.

I can't imagine going back to the states and not having health care. I won't be able to ski, cliff jump, hell I'll be scared to get into a car. In nz, even as a non citizen (non resident even) if I get hurt I am covered. It will come out of my tax refund, but the amount of taxes I have paid is a lot less than the potential thousands of dollars in medical bills, and I'd I don't get hurt, I get most of those back. BTW fuck insurance where I can't be on my parents plan unless I am in college. Shit sucks.

Fuck I wanna move.

BTW, I don't know how old you are but with the passage of the Affordable Care Act you can stay on your parents insurance until you're 26 (even if you're not in college).

Which is why you get a job or take out student loans and go back to school so you can either get on you're companies plan or you're schools plan. It may not be the best coverage, but something is better than nothing at least. That is of course if you want to ski or doing anything that could cause injury. There is a price to everything and its not the responsibility of the government to pay that price. It is the sole responsibility of the individual to pay that price because it is the individual who receives its benefits.

When banks were deregulated yea business picked up but did it really? it was in a sense false profits because what these banks where doing was fraud when the bubble burst many of them lost all their profits and value and were bought by bigger banks. So to me betting the ranch on risky fraudulent business isn't good business and that is what happened in the economic crises. Why should we trust these people again that made all their profits on fraud and basically put the entire world in an economic recession. Saying regulation slows down business is like saying the government should just let anyone no matter their age drink alcohol because the economy is in a bad state.

@bill I need to ask my parents about that, it was over a year ago now so it probably has changed. @brent, or I could just stay on countries with far better social policies than the us.

Perhaps.

To a NZer like myself, both Republicans and Democrats seem to support the following:

Deficit spending

Increased government interference in whatever they can get their hands on.

Increased taxes.

Increased Govt. employment.

Increased DEBT.

No true regard given to civil liberties (you guys still have the Patriot Act, right?)

Continued war and 'Nation Building'.

In fact, I find it quite amazing that the parties make themselves seem so 'different', when really they will both be intrusive, bloated Governments.

My $0.02.

I can honestly say, I am fortunate to not have to worry greatly about medical care due to my fathers health care and current income. This does not make me an ignorant child nor oblivious to the cost of healthcare. My parents believe in showing my family the bills we have to pay so we can understand why we are cutting down on superfluous costs, unnecessary spending, and above all, why Obama's inability to provide long term jobs in the job market could really fuck things up for my father. So get off your high fucking horse and open your highs and maybe understand that not everyone on this site is a 15 year old, and that some actually understand their parents finances and the political system.

I know a seemingly simple MRI or CT Scan can cost upwards of $1200. But thats the price WE have to pay for the quality healthcare this country CAN provide. My dad himself was a recipient of a 10 day recovery after having part of his colon removed. I cant imagine that bill. So trust me, I know more than you seem to give me credit for. So once again, get off your high horse and dont think youre better than everyone.
