So i just saw a comerical on tv that said "BMX Racing is now going to be featured in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Its amazing how this shits get in before skiing pipe esp. when snowboarding pipe is already in.

I saw a commercial that showed the BMX Racing and at the end it said "This isn't your parents olympics."

I wish it was my parents olympics because BMX Racing shouldn't be an olympic sport. Is it even in the X Games?

That's the exact commercial i saw, i was watching the Dew Tour thing on T.V. and than that shit pops on. I'm like are you kidding me? I didnt even know that BMX racing existed, now its in the Olympics.

Apparently they think that skiing on two sticks isn't as extreme as if it were on one wide board. Don't they know that skiers can now ski backwards and do backflips? C'mon you fucking Olympic Committee.

Seems pretty fair to me. BMX racing takes a shit load of athleticism and skill. It's like sprinting flat-out for a minute.

you guys had no clue that it existed? i used to race like hard core. but i do find this ridiculis that its in the olympics

Well thats the case why isnt skiing in the olympics, it also takes athleticism and skill. But you cant simply add every single activity that requires skill in the olympics, otherwise it would take forever to end. So simply whats the differnce between skiing and BMX raciing, espically when skiing counter part snowboaring is already allowed in, and BMX racing got added before.

It requires a hell of a lot more athleticism than freestyle skiing, snowboarding or a lot of other sports, come on think about it. You don't need to be in amazing shape to be a good freeskier. What film was it where they took the Oakley team to the gym? Ready Fire Aim? Go and watch that then tell me that skiers are as good athletes as any olympic event.

.... so you dont think that skiing should be in the olympics, maybe you should gtfo then explain your reasoning for why snowboarding deserves to be more of an olympic sport than skiing

bahahahaaa, "ski backwards and do backflips," you just made my day, are you a gaper? goddamn, i'm still lughing my ass off. +karma for being so damn funny. "do backflips"

I think DH MTB shouldve got in before BMX, but then again itd be harder to find a world cup level venue.

why shouldnt BMX be in the olympics?

i wouldn't. i have the same style of hate towards bmx as i do towards snowboarding, because i'm a freeride MTBer. the sport would be so much better if not for the fact that most of the people who ride BMXes are major posers.

i bet you the average person feels the the same way we feel about BMX for skiing being in the Olympics

well, obviously skiing isn't as demanding as track and field and marathons and such. But diving and figure skating and rhythmic fucking gymnastics are in the olympics... The skiers that are olympic caliber are all in good shape and spend time in the gym. Halfpipe, especially when its long, takes a lot out of you especially with pumping transitions and carving and everything. There are many events that skiers are better athletes.

It isn't how hard the sport is it's how long it has been around, how popular it is, and how many people do it. Skiing isn't in the olympics because it isn't popular enough.

no, actually, it's cause they're trying to get away from judged sports, hence why skiercross was approved despite being similar in age (younger actually) as newschool skiing.

You are wrong. In BMX racing most of the time you are pumping tranny and not pedling. THe track is down hill for the most part. Dont pin these guys on the level of like some track and field athlete. haha they are much more like a pro skiier if anything

i know! shits so sick! i used to race so hard! i still pull out my whip once in a while and do more freestyle bmx. but racing was soooo fun and nearly as fun to watch!

shits legit

I'm so pumped for BMX racing, I think it's great that it's in the Olympics!

And all the people complaining about pipe skiing not being in yet, how about you do something about it then besides joining a facebook group or signing a petition.

PS: To be fair, I signed a petition and I'm part of the facebook group. I support it, but I honestly don't do jack shit to get it started up, I'm too lazy, like the rest of you.

umm athleticism isnt just stregth youidiot... its balance, timing, it requires confidence... if you werent an idiot you would realize that skiing is one of the hardest things to get good at... and these guy arent going big... spinning, flipping, grabbing, or any combo of the 3... they are racing... so really? youthink it takes more athleticism to be a bmx sprinter... than a freestyle skier... check yourself ok?

I dont see why you have to hate on BMX because youre a freerider. Its not like they get in our way, and its a fucking cool sport. But thats not really racing BMX, more trails and street.

Racing BMX has probably been around longer than freestyle skiing. Its a legit sport. There are way more sports that are less deserving than racing bmx, too many to list. You have to be able to spin cadence sooo fast, plus pump as efficiently as possible. Plus I think it might be contact.

If you guys really want something to gripe about, explain to me why BC just spent fucking millions of dollars to build a ski-jump venue that costs 2-mil a year to maintain, for a stupid outdated useless sport, that women cant do, but then they wont support superpipe skiing for which there is already a venue.

But then you realise, its not really an event for nations to showcase their athletes in various sports, in one big stupid fucking expensive all consuming debt mongering billboard.

like i said, it's not the sport itself, it's the majority of the people who participate. and they do happen to get in my way, when i'm at the hill, and they can't flow properly because they have no suspension. i'd probably ride a BMX if not for the fact that i'd be afraid of people like myself thinking i was just another poser kid.

I can imagine if BMX'ers rode mountain bike trails that would get pretty frustrating. Like groms and their parents at whistler going slow on A-Line.

this got in for the same reason skier cross got in.
it's a race people understand how come the winner won.
with skiing halfpipe people dont know why a double flip is harder than a 12

Well whenever I drink Mountain Dew it feels as though my teeth are going to fall out, so I just stick to Sugar Free Red Bull. Sugar Free can be extreme.

Well my final thoughts are that if BMX racing is now in the Olympics newschool skiing will eventually be there.

i know im a skier but i actually sorta enjoy watching snowboard cross...

and down hill bmx is like the same thing on bikes...

seriously, you're now whining about why BMX racing got in the Summer Olympics? give me a break. are you kids just looking for things to whine about?

here's what's up, BMX racing has been around for decades and has recently taken a back seat to freestyle BMX. why did it get in? go race any BMX track flat out and tell me how you feel afterwards. you can't even compare this situation to pipe skiing.

now i have to ask the all important question, why is getting pipe skiing in the olympics so damn important?

seriously, think about it. freeskiing as most people know it today came about by mogul skiers not wanting to have to deal with the politics of the governing bodies that set rules for competition and they all round wanted some freedom of expression in how they skied. that was back in the mid to late 90s. so today you all want to be accepted by that same governing body that made the pioneers of the sport (JP, JF, Vinnie, etc...) quit moguls and just have fun.

what's it going to do for the sport as a whole?

Freeskiing and free MTB both need to thank snowboarding and BMX for giving them something to do a spin off of. BMX and snowboarding saved both MTB and skiing from spandex.
