...couldn't have said it any better myself!
BMX is a badass sport and takes shit-tons of skill, strength, and stamina. I have all kinds of respect for the guys (and girls) that race, and can't wait to watch it go down in such a huge venue. I don't see how this is being compared to freestyle skiing...freestyle skiing and snowboarding, in my opion, shouldn't be in the olympics. It's the same way I feel about motocross/snocross/rally racing in the xgames. They come off as a cheap way to boost tv ratings and take away from the sports that these games were originally meant to celebrate.
And to the mountain biker that was hating on bmx, if you really knew whats up there are just as many poser downhill/freeride/dirt jump mountain bikers as poser bmx riders, and racing seems to be where you find the least. I'm a mountain biker but I think one of the most fun things to do is rip around a bmx track every once in a while. It's probably one of the best cross-training things you can do, not to mention cheaper than riding lifts or burning gas shuttleing.
...but that's just my 2 cents
