BLACKbox Skis... there back

alright, this weekend, im getting all the shit together for my press. so, im back in the game. im gonna start building some longboards (if you want a custom longboard i can do those too) but as soon as i get the supplies im startin to build skis. so, heres my plan. im gonna need about 10 people to test prototypes this winter. over spring/summer, im gonnna work on fixing any problems, and have a actual production run ready for next winter. so heres the deal with the testers. You pay material cost for the skis (maybe 100-150) and ski um. then, you find out whats good and whats bad. keep a journal or something. then, next year, if you buy a pair of production skis, you pay this: Production price of skis- cost of prototype ski= what you pay.

Hows that sound. the prototype skis are gonna be mostly white with some basic graphics to test differnet methods of printing them. the skis im gonna be testing are the Perception (back country all mountain ski), and the analog (all mountain park ski). so i need to get 10 skiers who can ski hard. reply if your interested. i will supply more info to those who are intersted.

Lets go skiing

hmmm pay a few hundred buck to ski on possibly dangerous skis? sounds like a great idea to me.

Snowflake, right on baby, right on.

why would they be free. if they were free he'd have em tested by freinds and family

better to burn out...

...then fade away

well its like paying to test this ski that could break and not work the first day you ski them. Theres no...... guarentee, since there a PROTOTYPE ski. Therefore if there free your not losing anything.

I got nothin.

once you've gone black, you'll never go back

dude that could be your slogan for blackbox skis...'once you've gone black you'll never go back'

better to burn out...

ok...you cant charge people for a prototype. if u want to start up a company, its gonna cost you money, u have to make sacrifices. they would need to be free. or else, its just stupid

Well it is an investment for the testers. If you think they will suck and the company will fall apart then don't support them. But what if Blackbox turns into the next Armada or 4FRNT, you will part of the BlackBox family and Get a somewhat discounted pair of skis, kinda.

i would love to help out by testing, i just don't have any money, and i already have a pair of skis, and i'm sure my parents won't want to give me $100 for some new skis

but i wish you good luck, it's dope that you're making longboards too

im in. ill pay a couple hundred to be unique with my own style. but beware i ski hard and harder as the winter goes on. can you grind with them

im a bad man and i dont give a damn

i'm somewhat interested, what kinda info can you give me? What's your email address? Mine's Justo8484@hotmail.com. Email me with some specs: sizes, width, materials, etc.

Fear causes hesitation and hesitation causes your worst fears to come true

yea id be down for the analog i thnk thats what there called id give u like 80 for them but i dont know if i could get 150, email me at illiterate88@yahoo.com or im me on sublux322 with some dimmensions stats ya know the ussual and wat dessigns u were thinking of i wanna get these id be bad ass

What are the specs for the skis? I may be interested, and i could use something that i can use in the park, but is also plenty wide for some bc. I'm thinkin about TMs right now, but if the price is right and its the right type of ski, I may help you out.

'Cheerleaders are dancers gone retarded'

i would test the analog for free. i used to race so i ski about as agressive as possible, but my parents wont probably wont put up 150 bucks for skis that might fall apart the first day. if you want someone in NH to try out your skis and you will give them to me for free, then PM me. remember, starting a company isnt cheap, especially a ski company. the overhead costs are enormous

ok, i got a ton of replies (thanks), so instead of writing back everyone the same thing, ill just add a whole post.

the skis are free, cause you get the money back when you buy a pair of production skis. but i might see if i can work something out get it to like 50 or somethin, but im diggin deep just to get cash for this whole opperation.

anyway, i havent figured any size out yet, cause thats a while away. i am just thinking of construction methods and shit now. but the analog, what im thinkin is possibbly using extruded base instead of sintered just under the grind area. extruded is not as fast, but its alot tougher. just a thought. Also, super fat edges on the Analog.

As for testing, this is kind of how it goes. i am only gonna need a few people for each ski, maybe 4-5 for each model (plus me and a friend). so, if you dont wanna pay for a prototype, thats fine. as i said earlier, they are free, as long as you buy a pair of production skis for the 2004-2005 season. and, because the idea is to ski the shit out of em, they might break. if its some kind of fluke and they break the first week or two, then yeah, ill hook you up. but i cant have people 'test them' and go out and intentionally breaking them, yah know? so i would recomend testing only if you do have a pair of backup skis.

anyway, over summer, im definatly gonna need some help with a website, but dont start getting all excited about that, cause thats next year.

Sizes are gonna be prolly like 160, 170, 180 or somethin for both models. I still have alot to do, on top of school and work (i have access to stone grinders there, so they will come waxed and stoneground. but i would like to be able to ship out the concepts to the testers before january, at the absolute latest. like i said, i still am working on getting the basics set up, and after that i still need to get glass, wood, topsheets, bases, edges, a new printer(for sublimination of the graphics)and a hookup for laser cutting steel templates. thats alot, exspecially for a poor 17year old. and hey, if shit goes well enough, i can skip college, and use that time and money to get a real factory set up. anyway, right now im located in Ohio (it blows) but hopefully somewhere west after i finish high school. ok, my head hurts from all this thinking, but i already have a concept of the the perception in the digital art section, and the analog is gonna be all dj shit, and it might have those bases that glow green on the snow, and possibly be printed on a glow in the dark topsheet. alright, im tired and sore (hard fall biking today) so think about this shit kiddies, cause you all know youre gonna wanna pair of Blackbox skis next year!

Lets go skiing

sounds really good

oh yeah, dimension wise, im still workin on that, but i have a special program that will let me design templates, and then have them laser cut out of steel. and if anyone has any good ideas on things like graphics or construction, im open to suggestions.

also, djextreme, msg me if you can.

Lets go skiing

I am definatly interested in the Analog. If you want me for testing or anything just message me or email me at apf125@yahoo.com. Best of luck man.

I might be down for the powder versions. I live in jackson hole, so i have a ok place to test them out. Just make the graphics simple with some nice shapes and lines. Also, put the thick edges on the bc skis to, cause rock do more damage to edges than rails. Have them about 120,90,115, those would be sick dimensions, with the tail same height as tip. As far as the colors go, as the main color get something that stands out against the snow, but is light in color so the sun will reflect off. And everyone knows that this keeps snow from sticking to the topsheet. Also a teflon coated topsheet would help with that too. If you get all that shit, i'll def. get a pair

I think you need to get closer to an idea of what dimensions you plan on having... Are the pow boards gonna be super fat, or another 'normal' fat ski around 90mm? That will affect how stiff (or soft) you want the ski to be. They should both be twin-tipped. Do you want a ski that will carve alright on hard-pack, or more of a straightline machine? Etc...

You should definitely try and find somebody in a place with a lot of snow to test the powder sticks. Such as Mt. Baker. Heh heh

ill help u out chris. ill probably have the money. also if u need help managing it or organizing shit let me know.

Jules: It ain't no ballpark either. Look maybe your method of massage differs from mine, but touchin' his lady's feet, and stickin' your tongue in her holyiest of holies, ain't the same ballpark, ain't the same league, ain't even the same fuckin' sport. Foot massages don't mean shit.

Vincent: Have you ever given a foot massage?

Jules: Don't be tellin' me about foot massages - I'm the foot fuckin' master.

Vincent: Given a lot of 'em?

Jules: Shit yeah. I got my technique down man, I don't tickle or nothin'.

Vincent: Have you ever given a guy a foot massage?

Jules: Fuck you.

Vincent: How many?

Jules: Fuck you.

Vincent: Would you give me a foot massage? I'm kinda tired.

Jules: Man, you best back off, I'm gittin' pissed.

I'd be in on it too. But here's my 2 cents. Make likle a 165, 175 and 185. Im 6'2' and I would really like to see a park ski that is the right size for me.(185-190) Just my input, hopefully kids my size will agree.
