Blackberry Storm

well, im getting one friday morning. im pretty excited, my plan will be 80 dollars with unlimited texts, insurance, 2500 minutes, and unlimited data email whatever the fuck else is on that unlimited data/blackberry plan that verizon makes you get. thats with a 15% discount through work (hartford hospital).
it looks pretty dope, and will relieve my nearly broken samsung gleam, as well as my ipod touch from wifi haha. so now at the hospital i will only have to carry one thing, and it should actually get service as opposed to my shit phone i have now. plus, with the 3.2mp camera i can take pictures of peoples broken appendages in high quality and post them on the internet!
anyways my point is who else wants/is getting one? ill try to post a review on friday for those unsure.

I want one..I've been watching them on crackberry.com for ages. I'm so pissed that they are only coming to Verizon.

I think I might buy one unlocked, the only problem is that they are $530ish without a contract and I don't know for sure if they will work on AT&T. They do have a sim card slot but I may not be able to get the service books. We'll see, I just don't want to have to wait forever for them to come to AT&T.

i think i like my phone (LG voyager) better still... i can't handle full touchscreen, i suck so hard at typing on touchscreens

That's why they added the clicking screen. You actually have to click it to type. Should be interesting to see how that pans out. I've heard mixed reviews.

i already have a berry, but my buddy is planning on getting the Bold. when i get tired of this one i'll probably get the Storm, but this is still doing the trick so it 'll probably be a little while (also, i'm a cheapskate).

hahah my samsung alias only works on speaker phone. i came within a millimeter of an iphone but heard too many nightmares.

im waiting for that new "iphone killer" from nokia, its supposed to be legendary says an engineer from India i work with.

i have a blackjack 2, and when my contract runs out i'll go for the bold too, i don't like touch screen phones

ye i'd have to try it out first, the touch screenon the iPod Touch is too small for my fat fingers so hopefully the Storm will be a different story.

can't wait. unfortunately i can't miss school friday due to me missing a lot lately so i'll probably mosey on in after school and see if they have any left. if so, i'll be getting it then...if not i'll ask to be put on a waiting list when the receive a new shipment. i've been waiting for a good 2 months now anyways for it. i'll be reading the reviews in school friday from crackberry and whatnot. can't wait!

if anyone knows the answer to this question PM me for mad karma

i have a palm and i have all the software that it comes with that holds contacts, info, schedules blah blah. it there anyway to sync that program to the storm or do i need to get some new programs?

thanks in advance

I was considering buying one. But I bought a palm 700wx, and after owning 4-5 smartphones/blackberrys i really am in love with this phone, so im gunna wait.

and it dosn't have wifi
but you can buy a wifi card that goes into your SD port and you'll be fine.

Yeah, but most of the stuff is for palm OS and i have windows mobile
XAdevelopers.com or soemthing liek that ( i ahve it bookmarked) is my favorite.

What did you try that was like the blackberry storm? As far I know, the only product similar is the new macbook trackpad and that is a little less sensitive than the new Storms.

I've never really had a nice phone but all the phones I've had were Nokia and they are so killer! Cheap, durable, the list goes on. I can't wait for that to come out. It should be a super sweet phone and I can't wait for someone to finally put Apple to rest. The Nokia is supposed to be really light too!

i agree im a little pissed about wifi but considering that verizon makes you buy a blackberry data plan that is unlimited no matter what, the wifi thing is not a monster issue in terms of internet access.... unless im not thinking about some aspect of wifi.

ive been waiting since ive heard about em..getting teased saying there commin out end of october..then middle november..Now my Telus canada release date is like Dec 8 or 10th or something fuckn retarded...Im pissed because ive been waiting for a while, dont know what the price is gonna be like, nor what plans will be availalbe to choose from..Fackk..just come already..why cant canada release the same as verizon?? brutalll!!!!

It will be coming to Roger's in Canada. Just not before christmas, probably soon after. It's speculated that the version for roger's may also have wifi. We'll see.

so did anyone get one? i heard bad reviews on crackberry but i'd trust a review on NS over that anyday.

i'm headed up around 4ish to hopefully get one. they have 6 last and have for the past hour or so so i'm hoping i'll get it today.

I'll probably wait til they come out from ATT or until the new OS is released at least. That seems to be the biggest problem, buggy OS but .82 or whatever it is should be released soon.

You probably got it already, and i don't want to screw your hopes up, but i've read and seen some reviews and they all said it was a big disappointment. They all say the touch screen is awful and that texting, weather you need it or not, is also awful.

yeah, so this is not going to be my full review, but i hear ya'll loud and clear. i saw the reviews too before i bought.
ill write this up later tonight when im good and drunk, so it will hopefully be more funny. verizon fucked me so hardcore today, its ridiculous. it took me 8 hours to get my phone.
the phone anyways is beautiful, complicated, and overall fun to use. i am almost as fast texting as a regular phone (which is absolutely amazing in my book). my ONLY gripe issssss....
the touch screen is huge, and as you could predict, pushing down in the far bottom corners is a bitch. its actually not that hard, but it is harder than the rest of the screen (which i genuinely like). those bottom corners are thorns in my flesh. other than that first impression is straight fuckin ill.
stay tuned for a 21 year olds consumer/abuser review.

The fact that he must have Verizon to have the Storm, and the iPhone is on AT&T probably is why he chose the storm.

Ahh yeah that is a valid point, but since he's buying a new phone his contract is probably up which would make getting the iPhone much more realistic (and a better choice IMO).

i got there, and the last one sold about fifteen minutes before i arrived. bummer. anyways mine is SUPPOSED to be in tomorrow and is being held so not a big deal if it comes in. i played with the one in the store for probably ten minutes, and i loved it. the corners were not harder to press in at all and the QWERTY keyboard was easy as shit to use. coming from a flip phone that doesn't have it, i could type just as fast (which is fast as shit, i text way too much) using the storm's keyboard. browser loaded somewhat slow at first, but once up it was pretty quick and NS took a little while to load but it has a lot of shit. the picture and video is amazing which i expected and overall i think the phone kicks ass. the only problem was that the phone lagged somewhat (not a huge deal) but with another OS update or two i think it'll be perfect. the shitty reviews posted i just don't agree with AT ALL. can't wait for tomorrow if they really are getting another shipment in tomorrow which the guy told me, he knew a lot about it so i'm taking his word.

Ya I'm pretty interested in getting one, too bad I'm on AT&T, we'll see what happens. I'm really not a fan of the iPhone.

Anyway, this may help all you new storm owners:

http://forums.crackberry.com/f86/ultimate-offical-tips-threads-only-100612/

Additionally, there are some ways you can cut down on the lag and improve your typing speed. I don't have the exact instructions, but you can look them up on Crackberry. It basically involves speeding up some of the animations as well as decreasing the delay between key strokes. I hear it makes a HUGE difference.

yeah that's supposed to work pretty good, i pm'ed a few of the guys on there talking about it and they said it's an easy fix till the OS is updated.

but i'm pretty sure i read a thread on crackberry about an unlocked phone working fine with AT&T? you should read into it.

and i'm pretty much fucked, still didn't get it haha. waiting for the store to get a new shipment in a week or two. (quicker than getting it shipped to my house december 27th!!)

Ya they have one working, the only problem is getting the service books for the browser because AT&T doesn't support the Storm. Though I hear that if you use the Opera Mini browser (which is the best anyways) then you don't need service books so I'm looking into it. The other problem is that the phone is $600 unlocked or so and I don't know if I want to pay that yet haha.

Ya that sucks your phone is so backordered. New shipments aren't supposed to arrive until Dec. 5th and Dec. 15th. Good luck!

alright so here is my review. its going to be extemporaneous so forgive me if its all over the place, and feel free to correct. if you want a tech review this is not it. go to crackberry.com for that.
this is a newschoolers style review haha
so, first of all, getting the storm was a bitch. i got at the store at 920 (store opened at 9, here in hartford CT), got number 42. cool, the kid told me a couple days before that they were getting 50. so before this all happened i called verizon a week ago to make sure i could get an upgrade at the 1 year contract price (289) even though i was not eligible. guy on the phone says no big deal, its all set mr.smith *names changed for secrecy*. so i wait in the store till 1130, shits all fucked up the computers at the store are working in warp-slow mode cause everyone is trying to process orders across the east coast at the same time. so finally my number gets called up, my guy who is helping me says sorry its full retail, and because its not a new contract you have to order the phone from verizon, over the phone. ok, what the hell. when i checked in first thing in the morning the STORE MANAGER asked if i had an existing contract and was eligible for an update. i told her yes, then no. so im ripped shit, i go outside to call verizon.
scene 2call verizon, explain that they already offered me such and such a deal, check the fuckin notes in my account, i have been on verizon for 6 years, i love you guys but seriously what the fuck. so the girl tells me to go die. im like, that cant be done i just sat here for 2 hours, i didnt work, i was promised this deal. she says no it cant be done. so i tell her to cancel my service im going back in to buy it with a 2 year new contract (it would be cheaper that way than paying full retail). she says no, i ask to talk to the manager, she relents.
scene 3i run back in, the manager says oh im sorry we just sold out. i was gone maybe 15 minutes. i was like WHAT THE HELL. turns out they only had 40. i was like why did i get a number 42? i yell, get some ghetto black ladies into my argument, she reserves me a phone at the next store. go to the next store, wait some more, reserve my phone, come back at 5pm to get phone.
fuck i just told the story of how i got my phone. ill post this and then start working on my review. sorry people haha.

haha here is the review. i have an ipod touch by the way and i have messed with other touch screen phones so that is what im going by. im coming from a samsung gleam (thin flip phone).
size/weight. big, definitely bricky, but still "pocketable". reasonable to hold, although different from my little flip phone before. its fine, even in my scrubs.
screenbeautiful, my 2.0mp pictures from my old phone dont work well haha. video/pictures generally look sick. youtube looks like shit. there is a gap between screen and case that makes me nervous. no problems yet. looks better than the ipod touch of mine, although the gap is a little disconcerting.
typingim already much faster than my old phone, mostly because even in portrait i can type with two fingers. the clicking definitely is a plus, i cant type that fast on the ipod not knowing if i have touched too many things or not enough. accuracy so far is similar, although better with the blackberry i think because of the clicking. there is one huge gripe with the typing though. the bottom corners, particularly the bottom left is super hard to push down. i think i have already gotten used to working around it, but its still super gay. the whole thing is probably still slower than a regular bberry, but faster than iphone
work-a-bilityso i dont think any storm user has gotten to the bottom of this phones functionality. and seeing as that im not a power user, i will never use it to its full potential. it is cool to get a hold of my dad in dubai with ease though. i have also been able to have email convos with my girl in ohio (who is on sprint and has the instinct). pretty much this thing is a major workhorse. the phones ability is sick, no one denies/or doubts it. you are all already know whats up.
camerai should have uploaded a picture but there are some at crackberry to look at. its REALLY nice. it does seem a little bit delayed and hard to use. more like a real camera though, as compared to a camera phone. so thats not really a monster gripe. i have not tried video yet. damn.here is a test picture. not sure why the fuck its upside down.

serviceservice is fine. good like all verizons phones. better than my last phone
data/netits fast. i dinked around on youtube and stuff, the web is harder to get used to than the wifi on my itouch. to be honest, even after i get used to the blackberry, i think i have already passed judgement and have decided that the itouch is easier and better to browse the internet with. that sucks, because thats a big deal with me, and the blackberry would totally crush the ipod/iphone in my books with a better browsing experience. its not that its bad on the storm, its just not itouch intuitive. for example, navigating newschoolers on my ipod is a scary experience. i wouldnt even try with the blackberry. its still fine though for all intents and purposes, and data speeds are fast (not wifi fast...grumble)
miscbattery life is sick, customizing is easy and useful/sick, included accesories are useful and good quality, and wow factor is cool.
concernsconcerned about the crack on the sides of the screen. i assume pocketlint will eventually build up and reduce the effectiveness of the clicking mechanism. this will be the first phone i wont put in my jacket when i ski. i seems durable, but its just not a simple flip phone. my guess is that it would break from the impacts and condensation. another sad negative in my book. other than that im very excited to start down this blackberry path.
any questions ask away. sorry but i cant really cliff note it.

not to post whore, but verizon has gone above and beyond for me every day except for friday. they wiped 300 dollars off my bill in overages when i met my girl in ohio and proceeded to screw myself in charges for like 20 straight days with no clue it was happening.
not standing up for them, i just have no reason to accuse considering them holding me down like that. legit for sure.

I am thinking about asking for the Storm for Christmas, seeing that my 2year agreement is up. I went to verizon yesterday and checked it out. Seems a little big(I have the enV right now) but the screen seems really awesome. And the typing is easier then other verizon touch phones.

And about verizon, they have taken so many charges off our bill for stupid charges we had no idea about, no questions asked. great stuff
