Best ski town?

I totally agree. i mean it's great skiing, but i couldn't ever live there. especially during the summer months.

OGDEN is not a ski town... I could be wrong about Nelson, it's been awhile since I've been there, but I'm pretty sure it's more of a ski town than OGDEN

Breckenridge, but dont come here:

1) Lodging and properties, theres a crapload that you can rent, though its competitive but you can pull it off, live in a sweet place, and have your own hot tub area

2) town. 66 restaurants, 34 bars, all within about a 2mile radius total

3) the main strip of town: great people watching area

4) the view of the mountain, stunning and amazing on sunset

5) simply walking about town is fun

6) convenient, close to civilization, example denver and all of summit county

7) development increasing which can be good or bad the way you look at it

8) affordable. breck is not aspen nor is it vail. it is reasonable , however it is also on the uprise

9) the people. there are so fuckin awesome locals here

10) the history, breck was 2nd most producing town in the gold rush in colorado, (leadville first)

11) the town parade of Ullr Fest, all their Beer Fest, and Octoberfest

12) the open container law is DEF not enforced from my experience

13) the fact that you can live downtown be a 5min walk from the ski lift or a 5 min walk from the bars and make your cost of living reasonably affordable for a ski town

14) the police, are, for the most part, relaxed more then normal cops. we used to have people over a lot and the police would always be so polite when they showed up at our door. think about it - tourist town, police have to be chill, dont wana scare those tourists away

15) The state of colorado is settled. there are people around you other then the ski town. ( montana, wyoming there is no one)

16) The religious vibe and overall from the state it is in fun. Unlike other states.....that enforce liquor laws.

17) The overall vibe of the town: just wants to have fun.

This is just about the town itself. I will not include stuff about the mountain because the topic was simply "best mountain town"

ive seen breck cops be huge dicks and be really nice. never inbetween.
I got pulled over for running a stop sign in breck...the stupid one on that road coming from the highway that turns onto the road that takes you to the free lot (I think it's called airport road). dude made me get out of the car and do a sobriety test. it was like 2pm on a sunday. then he proceeded to lecture me for like 30 minutes on safe driving.
on the other hand I was at a party once in breck, the same cop came back three times and told us to turn the music down. never did anything else, one of these times I was hitting a vaporizer and he was staring right at me

im goin to bc next year after i graduate clown school, anyone have any insight on where to go. im lookin for a place with sick park but really sick terrain because honestly, i ski good park in the east, im more so goin for backcountry. nightlife is a must though, same with bangin headies, i hear whistler is the place to go. but whats the deal with rent and pricing and what not. anyone wanna gimme lowdown?

The only ski towns with great night life in western Canada would be Banff, Whistler or Vancouver. The rest are essentially sleepy little towns. They're all good options for what you want. You probably won't find a place in Whistler next season, it's extremely hard normally and add the Olympics on top of that. How old are you? Drinking age is 19 in BC and 18 in Alberta if that makes a difference.

This is pretty spot on. The hills are bigger in Europe, better terrain. The hills have better snow in North America, and better parks.

I don't really understand why customer service is important, you buy a pass once, then you ride the lifts. I never had a problem with customer service where I was. If you're local, you get to know everyone at your favourite bars, restaurants, lifts, etc. anyway. The party scene is just straight better in Europe. I was there to ski, so I didn't go out late much, or out hard but when I did... There are generally more girls in European ski towns, but they might not speak English, which can be a drag.

German tourists are probably worse than Texan tourists for what it's worth. Mook madness.

thanks man, now realizing this i prolly will just go to oregon and spend all summer trying to get a place in bc. drinking age wont matter ill be 21, by clown school i mean college. haha

CB has to be high on the list of best ski towns. When I lived there they shut down Elk St. to build a kicker at 3rd and Elk to hold a big air comp. Killer town!

yur really right and i think customer service was the wrong way to put it. im a bit biased because of some bad experiences with resort workers in europe. watch out in France. i broke my hand on the mountain and they made me go out and buy my own cast and go back to the doctor to have it put on. and my girlfriend had to pay for an ambulance before it would even pick her up. But all in all they both have a ton going for them and to whoever reccomended wanaka. its a great place but i could imagine living there to get a bit boring. actually seriouly boring.

i think anyone on here whose been around knows that Whislter takes the cake, however, it is out of the question if your an American and if you do not have the cash. I have talked to countless individuals who have tried and failed even people from Canada. Its simply not feasible cause everyone wants to be there and the rent and living cost is insane.

Europe is tough. I think those that are pushing European towns here need to realize the issues with exchange rates, knowing the right people, transportation costs, language barriers, etc. Also I understand the terrain is bigger and better than places in Colorado and Utah, but you need to realize that a lot of the kids moving to these towns are from the East Coast, Midwest, Florida, and other places that simply have no skiing or skiing on much smaller scale. I personally was from PA/NJ area and I was MORE then satisfied based on what I came from. How do you convince someone that they arent satisfied when they came from these areas? You simply cant.

Convenient is a big deal when moving to a ski town and a lot of these the towns people keep mentioning are very convenient. I mean I would love to move to ski town in Japan, but its simply not happening because of the location.

It depends what you are looking for. I love going to Whistler but no desire to spend a season there (maybe a summer season). Whistler has more of a resort feel than I would look for in a ski town. I just don't think I could handle the scene for a full season.

I say this as I am trying to plan a trip to Whistler next weekend.

shhhh, keep the west kootenays out of this.

don't come here... quality of life sucks, there's no good parties, the people are extremely rude to outsiders, and the skiing isn't that good anyways...

no, people would have a better time in Banff and Whistler... or go to Fernie - I hear RCR is really good at running ski resorts these days. Making all the right decisions.

Reno or SLC....but I would go with Reno. Pretty cheap to live, babes everywhere without 3984257230945872409582374650 dudes to 1 chick so its not a sausage fest all the time. And the one chick doesnt have every guy after her like most ski towns. only 20-25 min from skiing and from tahoe.

And theres an major airport here as well. And there is actually something to do after skiing other than sitting in your house and smoking. Oh ya an there are actually jobs. SLC is sick other than that whole Mormon factor...

hhhmmmm ya ur right ogden has nothing to do with skiing, or the salomon center, or the DNA, Atomic, Salomon, etc, headquarters/warehouses, and there is no such thing as the jib yard, so ya ur deffenetly right ogden has nothing to do with skiing.

Well, you could live in South Lake Tahoe for some cool nightlife and get some okay resorts, you have Sierra for park and Kirkwood for powder days, and Heavenly, ehhhh. Best option might be to live in Truckee so you have easy access to all the North lake resorts, Squaw Northstar, Alpine, etc, then you could drive down to South Lake for nightlife. You could also live in Mammoth and have June about 30 min. away. Then of course you have Summit County, SLC, and everything else that has been listed. Just thought I would throw out some places in CA. I would say South Lake probably has the best nightlife of any ski town in the U.S.
