I am so sick of people saying the best rock and roll band EVER is/was Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin.

Yes both bands were very good and there still hasn't been really comparable to either. But with that said, there are more original bands that are still coming out that are either on or close to that level.

I just have a problem hearing it because it is becoming a fad to like older bands that weren't around during your time (the vintage/retro era is coming). With a large selection of creative and original bands coming out in a society that is becoming relatively unoriginal and is starting to reuse old idea, it would be better for you to broaden your musical knowledge and help progress imagination and creativity.

Do you like Pink Floyd? Do you like Led Zeppelin? Then pick up an instrument and try to play what you think is up to their level of music while not necessarily playing the same type of music. Go, I challenge you.

I don't think he was looking for some asshole comment on what the current trend of rock is. Pink floyd is sick, end of story.

If people never tried to push the bar we would have never gotten anywhere. Everything has advanced because of this small concept.

Something also to take into consideration is that bands like Led Zepplin were not always good. I guarantee you that they were horrible when they first started out, but what seperates them from the other million bands out there is devotion and commitment.

I must say, I never was too fond of The Doors, and The Beatles are ok, because I like a couple of thier songs like elinor rigby, sargent pepper's lonley heartclub band, yeah those ones. I can't stand songs like yellow submerine and all those other ones that sound like it. I am the walrus kicks ass though.

neil young is a very honorable mention. but i guess we sort of have to narrow it down, because are we talking about all of rock in the old days. because yes and floyd are definitely prog. rock and some might not consider them to be totally classic rock.

Did anyone say Jethro Tull? My vote. Consistently good albums (a few masterpieces, a few not as good), great, original songwriting and who would have thought flute rocks?

Maybe Tull is more proggish though. For pure rock... there is no "best". I'd say (after Tull), Zeppelin, Floyd (also proggish though), the Who and Grateful Dead (though not as "rock" as others).
