Best food in SLC?

For food, there's nothing really remarkable here.

The beer's pretty good though. All the local breweries make good amber ales

Cool thanks I won’t eat anything I’ll just drink amber ale

unfortunately average Utahns love junk, fried fast food is everywhere and traffic spilling out of their drive-thrus is significant. Also lots of sneaky junk portrayed as healthy like vessel, chipotle, etc

best ingredients I've found in the valley so far is Redmond Farm Kitchen in Sugarhouse

I have never been impressed with anything I've eaten in Utah.

They somehow took a section the desert southwest, which is generally filled with remarkable Mexican establishments, and decided that plain, white, best-foods mayonnaise was the only spicy thing allowed.

Red Iguana for mole.

just noticed comment above now I’m mad! We have tons of Mexi food in Denver but nothing holds a candle to Red Iguana for mole. You might have 2 mole options at a restaurant here, there’s like 8 at RI and the Amarillo has habanero in it IIRC it’s not mega spicy but don’t say it’s bland. Pretty sure I remember them even having fried ice cream too.

The Pie. Its a pizza place downtown. Years ago it was a cool little local place but now it has become more touristy but its worth the pie. Like mentioned above, it is full of fast, drive-through fried food. There are the occasional real Mexican places but they are kind of a hit or miss.

Swig. so many hot Mormons too

i’m actually curious if these soda places are actually that good? is it the mormons that keep them in business or are the flavors legitimately good/unique?

It's just starbucks/boba for teenage girls that can't have coffee or tea

there are tons of non-chain food places, who cares what mormons like? there are tons of non-mormons in SLC, they make great food.

OP is a troll, but I'll humor the thread with an answer. SLC has some of the best mexican food in the west, sneaky good asian food and plenty of great high end eateries that are likely out of the price range for most people on this website. State street alone between downtown and milcreek has tons of amazing hole in the wall food places.

And the best mexican food is in Rose Park, multiple trucks and establishments that blow Red Iguana out of the water, not that RI isn't good but it gets way too much hype.

where asian food?

I'll start with Chinatown market area on state, there are 4 good asian restaurants in a 100m radius + the market is awesome. Tons of different random hole in the wall chinese food (if thats what youre into) on state, la cai noodle house on state is very good too, few pho places scattered around, most sushi places are good too along with sushi burrito, and there are nicer asian restaurants downtown too. Its not like a big city, but SLC has its choice asian places.

People told me the same about denver but the food here is good nobody even tries they just move somewhere and then complain for the sake of complaining

Tru x2. Some people just don't understand what "good food" is either, they go to chipotle and in and out or some other chain thats extremely average and overpriced.

There was a steakhouse chain with a location close to the Peppermill in Reno right across the street actually. Was very good.

I hit up the SLC one and the wings were raw steak inedible fucking awful and this was a XC drive.

Last ski trip I was in SLC after Teton Village staying in a cheap ass roach motel was very content to eat West Coast fast food that isn't available at home.

Curry fried chicken, the taco truck on state street and 800 S, Central 9th market (focaccia breakfast sandos), filling and emulsions (super good and affordable cuban bakery), asia palace (spicy pho), fast break gas station in downtown (amazing fried chicken for $2.50 a piece) many more but I’m drawing a blank. These are all within a mile or so of eachother. SLC is not a great food city but all the chains and strip malls make it seem worse than it is. Lots of sleeper hole in the walls

I will say that unlike rent, good food in SLC is surprisingly affordable (probably because wages are so low)

Sapa Sushi, Trolley Cottage, Roots Cafe, Laan Na Thai, Feldmans Deli, Finca, Lola, Eggs in the City, Caputo’s, Tsumani, Red Iguana, Gurkhas, Cafe Molise. Log Haven if you’re looking to get real fancy. Those are a few of my favorites in no particular order

Crown Burger hits after a long day of skiing and sitting in gridlock traffic not gonna lie

well ya if you want a fast food burger its great, but it gets far too much hype, its just a burger.

It's great, but it's like 40% too expensive. With several in n outs around going to crown just doesn't make sense

ima say it, in and out isnt that good.

Also Little Saigon in sugarhouse. The owners super cool and blesses up skiers/snowboarders. They got a nice poster of the Jet Skis slc kids and good food

they replaced dicks burgers in Kamas with a fizz and that really pisses me off. Dicks hit hard after a day out in uintas.

also diet coke

Takashi for sushi, Villagio's for pizza, Alberto's for burritos, Feldman's Deli for breakfast sandwiches, Dolly's donuts, Toasters has a burnt ends and pork belly breakfast sandwiches. If you have a specific meal in mind let me know, but these are some of my go-tos.

Damn Ian, I logged into say this is good looks, I've actually never been to Redmond Farm Kitchen but been looking for a better alternative to Vessel Kitchen. I'm trying it.

hahahahaha The Pie was never known for good food, it was only known for servicing drunk retards like oldmanski. Go to Molcasalsa. Oh wait, that's closed forever? Well go to Lucky 13, you fucking idiot.

I haven't gotten much Mexican food in SLC but "some of the best in the west" seems like a pretty bold claim. Will give it a try next time I head that way.

Yeah that's definitely an overstatement. Slc has some decent Mexican food, but I haven't found anything outstanding and on average it's pretty bland

Have you only been to betos or something? SLC has amazing Mexican food.

There are some decent spots, like Chile Tepin or The Spanglish up in Layton.

The real issue is on the low end. Beto's and Rancheritos are really bland compared to equivalent chains elsewhere in the southwest. Similarly cafe Rio and Costa Vida are ok, but their sauces are underspiced and oversweetened to fit the mormons' tastes.

On average, I like the Mexican food in CA, AZ, and NM a lot more.

We can leave chains like Rio out, those are fine for the price but I would label them fast food. I havent had a chain like Betos in the southwest, so I cant compare, but I've had great food from those places, again thats fast food basically.

Haven't been to the other places but even red iguana, altho overhyped, is great mexican food. The true gems are the trucks and tiny hole in the walls in areas like Rose Park.

Very much thought this. I couldnt tell if Cafe Rio was supposed to be Mexican or Mediterranean or some sort of fusion

2nding little Saigon, also ctrl f

Afghan Kitchen, either location, and they're open on Sunday too. Little pricier but not much especially considering how much food they serve you

Shouts out my boys TacoNTento next to the Speedway at the 21st and 21st corner in Foothill and my tweaker gas station clerk homies.

People who rag on Denver food are just not trying or exploring at all. My one friend always talks about how great Charleston, sc food is and how much denver food sucks. I’ve lived in both. Surprise: he hasn’t lived in Charleston and last restaurant he mentioned to me from there is a known tourist trap lol

I am jaded by the “Denver food sucks” argument

It's a dumb argument for sure, there's also people who complain about the nightlife and I always laugh because that's equally as ignorant lol

For sure. I think some places have a hogher percentage of good food but it's all relative. There's some good food in Denver for sure. I've never lived in the city but one of my best friends has been there for a decade. Used to hang there more when I live in CO but he's always in the hunt for food. Have been to some decent spots.

Idk there are sooo many restaurants in bigger cities. There's going to be some really good shit almost guaranteed. Sometimes maybe not on the radar but places are there.
