backcountry gear. including skiis, bindings, and boots.

what are the best, favorites, anything. i want to get into it but i have no one to talk to about it.

thanks

Black Diamound is probably the your best bet. they make the best quality stuff and have been doing it the longest. also BCA makes some good packs and n stuff. Scarpa and Garmont make good boots. Rossi has some good backcountry specific skis and there are a lot of Backcountry specific K2 skis like the Anti Piste. Really you have to shop around and its what works for you.

your gear doesn't really matter to you. what you need to be concerned about is your partners' gear. because they're the ones that are going to be trying to find you and dig you out.

don't get a plastic shovel.

And you need to be concerned about your gear because you're going to be the one digging them out.
Selfish asshole...
jk, but +1 on the plastic shovel part. That thing will just be bending all over the place if you're trying to dig in avy rubble. Stuff is so hard.

G3, Black Diamond, etc. Totally depends on what you are doing (except the avy stuff, that's pretty universal). Do you plan on touring, skinning up and doing something or heli/cat/sleding up, charging, jibbing. You'll need drastically different gear depending on the type of "backcountry" skiing you choose. You may also want to find someone to talk to. And by 'may' I mean you sure as f*ck want to find someone. You will need at least one other person to go with, preferably more. Taking a course will teach you a lot. Dynafit, K2/Karhu, Rossi, Voile, Diamir-Fritschi (BD), Ortovox. Seriously an endless list of dece "backcountry" gear; more specificity will help a lot.

start out cheap and easy in terms of skis, skins, bindings, boots etc, touring isn't for everyone so you might not like it, so start out easy but if you get into it dynafits are the best bindings, any dynafit compatible boot is good also, and g3 or black diamond skis are the lightest, i love touring in karhu bc 100 or line prophet 100'sbut as for avy gear, get a metal shovel with an extendable handle, invest in a good tracker, i love mammut barryvox but it's expensive, and get a long probe and make sure you always go with someone and you understand snow conditions/risks/how to deal in an avy situation, good idea to take a course before you gonever, never, never, never go unprepared or alone
