What is lax christiantiy? If you actually read the bible you would know that God is not a moderate. He doesn't want you to go out and be a dick but he also wants to follow his rules to the best of your ability in every section of your life. If you are being "lax" about that religion you're doing it wrong.

I think gnosticsm is stupid though, I am not atheist though. I also think it is stupid that people try to go around and try to convince you to convert to a religion that has no proof and is nothing more than a child's story.

Protestants don't bother me, but still don't believe with their views.

I give them credit though to throw away all sense and let a story control their lives. I can't talk about most religions because i haven't studied them as extensively as Christianity
 
Those are actually edited by Jesus in the new testament, but there are a bunch of things jesus says to do and very few self proclaimed christians do that. Either follow the book or don't call yourself a christian IMO. I'm actually agnostic but being around the church my whole life I have learned that when it comes to religion the only thing you get from riding a fence is a sore ass.

I think i'm offended by it in a sense, simply because they're doing it wrong. We want to know the answers to why everything is here, but we learned about scientific method and realized it works better... Its basically offending humanity's knowledge and ability to learn and all that good stuff...

K i haven't really read shit about this thread, because frankly it's stupid. It's is just stereotyping atheism like atheists stereotype Christians as all evangelical, Bush worshiping rednecks. Imagine if society didn't believe in religion at all:

that doing bad things had no overlying consequence if you don't get caught. The world needs religion to keep the stupid people believing that if they are mean to me they will go to hell.

and believing in god doesn't mean you believe in religion. I consider myself atheist, but i still think that there had to be something that created it all, just what ever created it doesn't watch our every move and judge us, just simply a creator

 
Oh yes, I agree... I dont get worked up about it, I just think its the wrong way to do shit... I couldn't care less if they live that way or not (as long as they don't force it on others of course).

this is another sucky part of this thread. some guy coming around the corner and fuckin with all people in this thread.

for most people arguing, its not about getting others to believe the same stuff. at least its not to me. i just state my point and i defend my views against contrapoints. thats all. and sorry that i didnt read all christian/atheists threads in NS. maybe its the first i posted in (its probably not) but if you want these threads to end, then NSG will be a pretty empty place with a funny youtube repost every now and then.
 
Yeah its people that come in and tell everyone they are idiots for arguing, it makes threads suck thus making nsg suck, but i like arguing this stuff because you may find an answer you couldn't have by yourself.

On topic, how can you call out religious people for both following a religion too closly and at same the same time too loosely. Old religious texts should not be followed because of the points people have brought up, they were based of primitive ideals that do not work in modern times. I would possibly follow a religion more if they would realize that yes its false and based in old ideals and the update customs. Basically religion is not supposed to control your life but just guide it.
 
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR, think for yourself and let your internal moral compass guide you. Make a positive difference in this world based on your own ideals rather than those shoved down your throat by some religious body.
 
that's a good point and i don't necessarily disagree but if you honestly think the people that argue and bitch at each other ever get anywhere (and it's usually the same people, not coincidentally) then you're mistaken.

...defend your views, fine. it's just tiresome and useless to argue with some (ok, most) people on subjects like this. but you're right, NSG would be much less crowded without these threads. whether that's a good or bad thing is completely subjective.
 
right, were not getting anywhere. but just for myself i get a lot of input in a way i couldnt get just by research. like a lot of different approaches. because i like to educate myself after i felt uneducated in a certain situation.

if some of the other guys look stuff up after they heard a related point here, than its good.

its like in a 9/11 thread. conspiracy theorists fighting against all the others and all the others fighting against them. but in the end i guess that at least some people informed themselves and thus i dont think its bad. i think for example that the CIA or whatever had some kind of role in these things, but after a serious discussion here i looked some things up and i realized that a few conspiracy theories are bullshit (although others stand, but that doesnt belong here, SERIOUSLY, DONT START OVER AGAIN).

if something like that happens in this thread, i think it has served its purpose and you arent needed to keep the interwebz clean

and to me its good if there is activity. there is so much random shit going on here, i love it.

Gunna have to take that one up with the Supreme Court. Constitutionally speaking, that is a pretty difficult issue to address.

But that's not what you were really getting at I don't think, so I am typing something to avoid going to the library and studying for finals...meh.
