Ask me for longboard Advice!

I see alot of longboard threads in NSG so id like to just help out with this one thread. Im part timing at a Longboard specific shop now. We carry all brands so i try to be un biased. I hate seeing kids get wrong ideas and buy shitty overpriced boards that arnet what they really need for there style of riding.

So post your weight, height, MAIN style of riding, riding conditions, and preffered color/styles and ill set you up.

Lets go!

Oh and this

My main riding focus is Dh/fr and DHrace, i do some freestyle every once in a while on my apex 37 too though. S

Id be happy to give any advice on slides, tricks, or Race tuck.

Personally i have landed a few old school kickflips on my friends dervish, and some on my apex. I have never tried a real kickflip though. I dont like spending too much time on that kind of stuff.

I've never ridden a board before but i moslt like bombing really big hills and doing ramps. i want a rasta colored pintail for no more then 50 dollars(thats all the money ive saved up from allowances) and i think a pintail would be good for bombing hills and sliding and ramps.

Maybe he's countering your sarcasm?

Heelsides are generally harder to learn, dont worry about it.

Get on a slower hill, get up faster, and practice carving hard into them. Toesides are easier to move all your weight forward, and pivot the back, but harder to balance.

Heelsides are harder to distribute your weight better.

Practice practice practice. On hills, not flat ground. It will come faster.

What wheelbase on the 2012 wolfshark would be the most balanced between DH/Freeride? I have it set up on the innermost (24") and it feels a little unstable. I want to extend the wheelbase, but not sacrifice any freeriding capabilities. If it helps, I'm 5'8"

on my dh race i run a 28.5in. I know the wolfshark as a shit ton of wheelbase options. I run a low degree truck on my FR board and i realized it is MUCH easier to get used to sliding a less carvy board then it is to get used to a unstable board.

Id go 26-28.5 depending on how much you really need to carve into your slides.

Hey man,

What's your opinion on the Landyachtz Tomahawk?

I'm about 6'0 180 pounds. Haven't really done much longboarding and I just want something for bombing around down doing chores and just general cruising. Pretty good deal on a used one around me right now.

Cheers

i wouldnt recommend it alot of the described length is in the kicktails, super short wheelbase and effective foot platform.

Im 6ft as well and found them incredibly uncomfortable, disregarding the fact they are in no way meant for dh.

Id go with a earthwing belly racer, or earthwing supermodel top mount. Both are very cheap and versatile.

Setup:

trucks: Bear 852's, reversible hanger to change degree of truck (for dh/carving)

Wheels: 78/80a landyachtz monster hawgz, super smooth wheel, fast, and last forever. great for casual carving and cruising, as well as dh

bearings, whatever you feel like spending. in the mid 30 range, seismic tectons kill it.

let me know

hey man. so i've been longboarding for about a year so i'm still a beginner. last year i started learning slides but i'm still having trouble with them. i just want to learn basic stand up slides to mess around with and for controlling speed on hills. don't know if you need any extra info but if you do just say so and i can provide it

How does the supermodel ride top-mounted? I've been riding mine drop through but I might try top mounting it when I get a chance.

just take my advice if you arnet already doing so.

find a comfortable, moderate speed and practice carving into them. Instead of turning slowly, carve as hard as possible with your back foot, and distribute your weight accordingly.

Never get pissed and quit, it took me a while to learn, just lots of practice.

the top mount specific rides great, but i wouldnt recommend top mounting your dropthrough without risers/shock strips.

Could crack super quickly.

Yeah, I have indys. And to AndyWarhol- I thought you were talking about top mounting the drop through version, but I see what you mean.

start off by finding a friend with a decent board, try all the different styles and see which one, if any, tickles your fancy. Dont waste money on a carving boarding and then decide you want a dh/fr and the same way around!

Develop a budget.

alright- i'm trying to learn how to slide.sharp slope? soft slope? try in rain? heelslide? toeslide?

i know it's easier to start with gloves, so i guess ill make some. where should i put my hands down on the pavement? should i loosen my trucks a ton? i have 78a abec flashbacks so kinda soft, but i've seen my friend do standing 180s easily.

thanks a bunch!

a more moderate slope is better, you will have more control, and more confidence.

It is easiest to learn handslides first. Make some gloves, tons of tutorials on youtube. or buy some loaded gloves. They may be 50 dollars but are definately worth it.

Loosen your trucks to a reasonable point. 78a flashbacks are awesome!

The easiest handslide is the basic push up.

Get to a decent speed carve very lightly toeside, and simultaneously put your hands on the ground shoulder width apart, in front of your head. Put all your weight on your hands, and and continue to turn your board toeside!

Keep practicing, and control your board!

Alright I'm back and serious this time. I don't want to spend a whole lot on a board, but I also want quality . I will be mostly cruising but bombing hills is something I might take up. Would a cracked skulls be good? I was thinking like >150 usd

I would recommend a double dropped earthwing supermodel. It is super low to the ground, therefore easy to push. It is also a very capable DH board. Cheap too.

If you don't like the graphic or something though the Landyachtz Switchblade is essentially the same board, but more expensive.

I also would recommend the Rayne Vendetta, but it's shitfully expensive.

whats the best way to learn toe side slides i can heel slide and revert but cant toe side slide worth shit,im riding landzachtz switchblade im 5'2 120lbs im looking for a new board any advice.

i agree with you on the earthwing factor. just a single drop, probably the topmount.

Dont worry about the graphic, they get fucked up overtime anyway.

I reccomend a earthwing belly racer. they are short, light, and high so they pump well.

They are dhrace boards though so they can handle dh really well.

Stick with the switchblade. Awesome board.

Toe side standies are hard because you tend to drift out alot at 90 degrees. all i can reccomend is carve a bit more before trying to break into the slide. and push a bit more down and out instead of just out.

Your set up carve is huge as well as angling Both feet forward at about a 45 degree angle, don't just push the board out all at once slowly push out while keeping your shoulders facing down the hill so you don't get stuck at 90 and can pull it back in easier.

heeelllll yes. They fucking kill! especcially for 275 a set.

I shouldnt tell you this but, calibers ride close to identical and are 200 dollars less. None the less, if you are gonna get precisions get those, aeras, or zealous!

The calibers are an awesome truck thats how haha.

contact them directly buzzedprecisiontrucks@gmail.com

just got a new (used) board from CL and its pretty fast but my freinds are all definitely faster. it has new bearing, so its not because of that, although ive heard they may need to break in or be lubed. i feel like the wheels are kind of soft, is this the problem? if so what wheels would you suggest, or how should i go about making the board faster?

Are you talking about faster on hills or on flatground pushing?

If its hills, work on your tuck/form

if its flatground, bearings may need to break in. Softer wheels CAN BE BUT NOT NECESSARILY ARE SLOWER.

Weight of the board plays a role too

I've got the purple 50 cals and I prefer them over my friend's Surf Rodz RKP, but I still like the feel of Buzzed and Aeras over them. But if you're gonna get a cast truck, get Calibers

pretty much. Surf rodz fucking suck lol. the set screw for the axle always comes loose/out.

Precision's are worth it if you actually race alot but thats about it.
