WHY ARE WE GIVING $1BILLION TO THE UKRAINE?!?!?!

I really hate our government. Really.

We have so many things going on here that need money...failing infrastructure, lack of support programs for military, incredible student debt, a horrible education system for the most part etc etc etc. But we can throw $1Billion toward the Ukraine? This is ludicrous.

And yes, you SHOULD be mad at this because you all will be paying for it if you live in the US. Your taxes will be paying for it and your future will be hurt by these extreme acts of wasteful spending.

Let's help our own country stay afloat before we throw huge amounts of cash at these assbackward eastern Europe shtholes huh?
 
Yeah this makes hardly any sense. How about instead of giving them money we don't have we give them some debt instead, we got plenty of that.
 
i know we are very far far away from it, but from a theoretical standpoint, it would be kind of interesting (also devastating) to watch how a war between the US and russia would look like.

i am pretty sure that neither would want the label of the side which used nuclear weapons first. stilll you dont want to lose soldiers when you can level a city with almost no death toll for your troops.

and if both only use conventional weapons, it would be like two boxers fight each other at like 80% intensity. both know that they dont give it all, they know that the other one still has a lot of reserves, so what do you do? if you turn it up, the other one will turn it up and all of a sudden, the whole planet is destroyed.

I cant watch RT news, not because i cant, but because i don't find their information credible. Even in their description it says how they are the first Russian Owned English speaking news agency. Which explains how they have such an easy time getting into Crimea vs every others news agency.

Don't worry, the us will not get physically involved in this because Obama is trying to ease people into his health care plan, and bad war press is something he dosen't exactly need right now.
 
yeah, I highly doubt the US will get involved, a conflict in Russia would be the last thing we need right now... even if we did, it would be another Cold War

If it isn't, you're completely wrong. Many scholars think that sometime in the next 50 or so years that China and the US will go to war. There always has to be a "number 1" the biggest superpower. Currently its the US (obviously). Some say that China (or in this case maybe Russia) will think they're big and bad enough to challenge the top dog and boooooom, war between two super powers.

It is economically feasible? No, Could it happen? Yes.
 
China could totally take USA, theyd just pour shitty chinese conscripts into their military and not give a fuck about their casualties. they have like 3 times as many military personnel to dispose of and im pretty sure a huge part of the US's 17.5 billion dollar debt is owed to china

The amount of stupid in these two sentences is astounding. 1: china could not take USA. 2: numbers don't really matter ( Cruise missiles and attack aircraft > shitty conscripts) 3. They dont even have double the military personnel. 4. You do realize that the USA GDP is over 15 trillion.... so 17.5 billion would mean nothing to them. 5. Their debt is about 16 TRILLION, not billion.
 
that is actually not true at all, we own the majority of our debt china only own about 8% of our national debt, a large portion of it is in social security. its funny how everyone thinks that we owe china most of your debt when its just not true.
 
Yeah no, China and Japan both only own about 1.1 trillion of the debt and our military is so much more advanced in terms of weaponry I think we would be fine.
 
Not even close. They USA has 12 carriers with years of flight op experience. China 1 (old only semi functional and zero experience running operations) our military has 12+ years of combat experience and time to prefect weapons systems. Almost everything we field is more advanced/ capable then China's.

The only thing China has is a shit ton of mediocre soldiers and the funniest part is they neglected to plan how they would transport these masses of troops. They have almost no refined heavy lift capabilities or modern troop transport platforms. They would have a very hard time invading any country. Let alone the US
 
Could happen, but it would never be a full out war, as both sides have nukes so MAD comes into play. Same reason why the USA and the Soviet Union never actually fought and the cold war remained "cold". When dealing with nukes there always has to be a balance which a true war would destroy.

The 'armed groups' have weapons unique to the Russian military and have been flying Mi-24 helicopters around the Crimean peninsula. Amazing that ordinary citizens have such advanced equipment..
 
I was under the assumption China has the same level of technology but none of the organizational mastery or scale in advanced weaponry that we do. I read that they have 800 or so type 99 tanks while we have something like 3k M1 Abrams A3s.

You're the pilot though right, you know this better than anyone in this thread.
 
MAD does come into play, but sometimes I feel that one government (could be China or Russia) is just gonna say fuck it and do it.
 
"China could totally take the USA" is a crazy bold statement. The most powerful military in the world belongs to the US. No one could "Take the USA" by themselves. They do have three times the personnel but there's no way they would even stand a remote chance.

The US does owe a lot of money to china, but they export a shit ton of stuff to the US and vice versa. If the US and China went to war both sides would lose a shit ton of cash mulah. Like I said earlier in this thread, it has a very remote chance of happening. But, China cant handle the US militarily currently.

From my understanding China's two 5th gen fighter programs still rely on Russian jet engines and advanced radar. There are also reports of China obtaining technological information on the F-35, however I am not sure sure how credible these reports are. Wouldn't this suggest that China's technological capabilities still rely heavily on other countries? Does this mean that there is still a decent sized technological gap between China and the US?

It seems Russia is setting up a contingency with China to weaken the effects of Western sanctions on it's economy:

I read a book, can't quite remember what it was called; but it is essentially all about how the chinese have been infiltrating our weapons labs and programs and stealing information for years.
 
So for a politically inept person what does this mean? So Russia just pretty much told the Ukraine "Fuck you we are now taking Crimea" and attack a base? Is the base in Crimea or in the Ukraine? What does this mean for the U.S.?

A few days ago Crimea held a referendum (a popular vote) on whether they wanted to stay with Ukraine or declare independence. As predicted, they voted for independence. This morning, the President-figure of Crimea signed a treaty with Putin annexing Crimea into the Russian Federation.

The one thing about that referendum was that more people voted than there are citizens in crimea...so more than 100% of the population voted. Kinda janky.
 
this whole thing is going to shit.

in the next 12-24 months chinas economy is supposed to fall on its ass, which could topple our brittle economy,which leaves us no possibility of being able to defend other countries Russia has its eye on. and other countries rely on us which could keep them from attacking.

Ukraine has authorized its troops opening fire in self defence against Russian's, besides that I don't think that there is much more to it. The only way that can turn sour is if a Russian soldier is killed and Russia uses that as an excuse move its troops across the Ukrainian border, I don't think that will happen though especially since Russia hasn't "officially" admitted to having troops in Crimea.
