Objectively speaking I disagree with you lol

i bet those 10year olds that do double cork cant even ski corbets, they are good flippers but not good skiers, they should just quit skiing and do gymnastics and parkour cause clearly that is the things they love doing and are good at haha

I have two groups of friends. My SoCal friends who think I’m a ski god and my friends in Mammoth who know that I’m decent at snow sliding.

Words spoken by every salty allmountain boy who cant ski park to save his life.

I always like to think that "there is always someone better". At the end of the day, who cares if you are the best skier on the mountain? If youre going up to ski just to prove youre the best, than you are missing the point of skiing all together.

And for the argument that park skiers aren't good skiers or whatever, I can almost guarantee that 95% of the people who only ski park can additionally throw down around the mountain. Plus some of the best all mountain skiers started out as park rats, Candide, T-Hall, Wiley Miller, and I could name a few more.

I agree with your sentiment...but I’m pretty sure all of those dudes started in the bumps and shredding all mountain. But, still, if we are talking dudes and dudettes who spend most of their time in the park but live in places with access to good terrain, I guarantee you they rip all over. Edge control is edge control. Athleticism is athleticism.

Now if we are talking about people on the EC or something that are exclusively park rats and don’t have access to terrain, it’s probably different.

Yeah for sure, but even if they got the edge control and can pick it up easy.

And for sure about bumps and racing back in the day for those older guys. I was thinking more along the lines of when they got out of moguls and racing... but youre correct.

i'd disagree with you there as well. I ski at a tiny tiny mountain that barely gets any snow, and I pretty much only ski in the park but i think park skiing has helped me be a better all mountain skier anyway because I can recover, if i lose control or something I can get back on track pretty easily even in tight terrain, because im used to sketchy landings and stuff like that

I suck but the best tricks I’ve seen at my local were a cork 5 and a straight 9 so I don’t have much competition

Kinda surprised this is getting downvoted, you can be objectively good in the air but park jumps aren’t the best display of skiing ability by any standard.

not saying it’s easy or trying to downplay that skill set, but it’s definitely not the same as being a good skier. Imo, a good skier has to be solid at jumps but a good jump skier doesn’t have to be good at skiing. Y’all remember that dude who did a quad front flip and exploded? He was an ok skier but his jump game shits on his actual skiing ability.

dude a double cork doesnt make you a good skier

I do remember that, utterly hilarious, if we're referring to the same guy. Atrocious rail game, could barely do 5s and 3s, but was able to do dub fronts with hands behind his back.

Yup.

I hear you, and I’m sure it definitely has made you a much better skier overall. But, skiing steep natural terrain, bumps, variable snow, etc. are their own skill sets that take practice, just like greasing a sw 2 pretz 2 does.

I’m sure you’re a better skier than someone around you that doesn’t ski park though for the reasons you said.

let's see some vids of you doing them then

um i've never done one and i would crash if i tried, i never said i can do one. being good acrobat gymnast has nothing to do with being a good skier, i am a good skier but not a good acrobat

Yeah I’m def the worst skier I know

If you're the best skier you know you are probably skiing with the wrong people, the best way to progress is by trying to hang with the guys that are really good

Walker would still whoop your ass in an all mountain game of slvsh

sometimes I get cocky and think I may in fact be the best skier on the mountain.... then I go skiing w my friends ?

The words "incompetent", "dangerous" , and something unpleasant screamed at me in Italian have been used to describe my skiing style to answer your question.

so either you're really good and a really bad skier said that to you, or you're really bad and a really good skier said that to you

I skied with a bunch of like 30+ year olds who were destroying me in the park on touring bindings a few weeks ago so... No

Absolutely not.. I think out of all skiers worldwide (read: mostly tourists who ski green n blue runs) most ppl on this site are in an upper percentile of skier, but the beautiful part of this sport is everyone shines in a way someone else may have never even thought about.. the way they turn or the way they grab or how they spin, all of those minute details can be so different from skier to skier. If you ski with homies or even randos, especially ones who are skiing at a higher level than you, you will always continue to progress and improve. Everyone who skis or boards should strive to learn what they can from others.

I find all the best people on the mountain and ski with them it motivates me to get better. Park, guys who rip the fuck outa groomers cause everyone will give you pointers and that’s makes u better

this is pretty spot on. im probably the best skier i personally know (not that im amzing) but I feel like I would progress a lot faster if I skied with people better than me on a regular basis. Was like with skating, I was usually the best person I knew, but whenever we skated with better people my own skills increased much quicker.

Unfortunately yes, and I’m good and all but lots of people are better, I just don’t meet them ??‍♂️and it is unfortunate when peeps don’t wanna follow you through the trees, steeps, park etc, no one to learn tricks with, no one to truly race so your always competing with yourself, would be great to have a spotter on more sketchy terrain get a signal when a big drop is free of people, play follow the leader, analyze tricks, sucks separating and meeting at the lift.
