Are Ski Brands Ripping Us Off?

Real question, why are all ski brand sweatshirts/tees $70-85. Theres also usually nothing crazy special even if the blanks are a little thicker.

You get what you pay for in most circumstances.

When comparing a $30 Gildan hoodie from Walmart to an $80 Jiberish hoodie, there is a very noticeable difference in quality across the entire hoodie.

I bought a syndicate hoodie second hand and I must say, it’s one of the nicest hoodies I’ve ever worn. The fabric is so nice and comfortable

It's called running a business, you don't sell products for what it costs my man.

But I can't afford what they're asking, obviously they're trying to rip me off!!

Get your money up OP :)

“BuT bRo MaRgINs aRe MadE Up By BiG PhaRMa”

i swear no one understands this now. Since Covid the cost for quite literally everything has increased, of course MSRP is gonna go up to compensate for that? Did none of you go to high school?

i would bet most people who complain about it are in high school/college and haven't had to buy anything essential in their lives, wouldn't really expect them to notice that prices of everything has gone up.

But even essentials for living are more expensive, like a carton of eggs is almost twice as much as it used to be. No shot people are completely blind to this unless it’s not their money being spent which now that I think ab it is probably a ton of people

that was my point, the people complaining don't buy a carton of eggs, they only buy things they want i.e. a hoodie from jiberish.

They want to be premium brands and the next Supreme, not grassroots ski brands. There is free swag all over the competitions and training centers. I still refuse to buy t-shirts because I got used to just wearing freebies. Hit the circuit.

No. They’re not ripping you off. Prices for everything have gone up. I run a printing business myself and it’s super annoying to have to raise the price, and not even see an increase in profit. It gets me mad bcs I know they’re thinking we’re price gouging when we’re actually the once’s getting screwed.

That’s because there was an avian flu outbreak (I think in the Midwest). They had to kill like 40 million birds or so. Prices should drop again in next year

Yeah most kids my age and younger have their parents buy them everything. This is why they love to complain and cry about just about everything and why insta is littered with cocky kids posting the same looking shit.

The avian flu outbreak is worldwide unfortunately, it’s spread primarily through migratory wild birds and backyard chickens.

something to notice: the price of pasture raised (the birds go outside) eggs has barely changed at all. For a while they were almost the same price as caged eggs. So I guess letting the birds go outside and breathe fresh air protects them from illness and makes them healthier, crazy concept right??

I noticed the same thing with eggs. eggs I've been buying have barely changed in price.

On the clothing thing, blank clothing with no branding > branded clothing.

That and it reduces the spread of disease as they arent caged up 6 inches from the next one over.

eggs are like 6 bucks a gallon because of the bird flu, they gotta wipe the whole farm if one of those things got the virus

Broadly speaking, building skis isn't the most profitable industry out there, but the brands tend to have a strong brand image. Outerwear and merch is great way for them to cash out on that image

I can afford maybe one 70$ sweatshirt a year and I work decent hours. Trust me, I’m not happy buying it. No one is happy spending 70 of their hard earned bones on a 5$ piece of fabric with a 10$ screen print on it.

Kinda agree, I wish Tall T used a better material for their hoodies, it’s just a cotton hoodie that gets soaked. I’ll still buy from these brands cause they’re sick, but not really ski in them.

These however are mint, 3XL tall is the same size as my team size hoodie, and they are pretty waterproof too. Someone here put me on but I got 4 of them. Plus Murdoch’s got deals too occasionally

Having no money is the third most core thing, behind being an alcoholic and riding jetskis

It’s literally the same as skating:

-material costs have gone up, thus making hard goods like skis and skate decks, more expensive.

- companies then barely make profit from hardgoods or even lose money, because they know if they raise prices people won’t buy their stuff.

- so instead of raising hardwood prices, they just subsidize their costs with soft goods, like t shirts and other clothing/accessories.

- soft good prices go up when materials/production/shipping get more expensive (duh), but also have to cover the rising costs of producing hard goods (skis, decks, bindings, trucks, ect).

- so we still have $60 skateboards and $500 skis, but more expensive clothing and Merch.

-For example: if skateboard prices had followed inflation since its inception in the 1950’s, a deck should cost you about $120 today. But companies know that nobody is gonna regularly but $120 decks, so they sell them at little to no profit- or even at a loss, and rely almost entirely on soft goods to help stay afloat.
