Anyone here ever skiied Corbet's in Jackson Hole?

I'm going there this winter, and really want to ski it. I'm sure it's a totally different story when I'm standing atop that thing.

I've done the "handicapped" line. I wanted to do the real Corbets or the Cliff entrance on the left, but the coular itself was bulletproof ice. Someday I'll get there on a Pow day.

Word. The conditions aren't always stellar. Anyone who says they'll do it or did it without thinking twice is a bonerfide lier.

If I ever go to Jackson I'll definitly want to try it. The snow conditions seem matter so much though. I've seen multiple pictures and videos and in each one it looks completely different. I saw one where its like an 8 ft. drop into pow and others where its a 30 foot wall of ice

i did the goat trail of it as a soph in high school cause it was all moguled out so dropping in wouldve been sketch as fuck. but ya id like to go back and actually drop it when the snows right. i did all the alta chutes and some other chutes at jackson but corbetts is really the only thing worth mentioning if you drop in

the palisades gave birth to rockstar ski lines. Plake, Scot Schmidt, and a few others hucked meat off those rocks like noone ever thought possible

Dudes were throwing down sicker lines in jackson when plake and schmit were in middle school. They were just swift and silent, and keeping it deep.

Its a gnar line but I know heaps of dudes that have done it. Its just the entry that makes it sketch, other than that its just another couloir.

word, thats what i think too, and i hope i get to ski it someday, but im sure that when you're looking down into it your mind must be spinning...

The cool thing is about halfway down on skier's left there is a cave. It's tempting just to blow by the fucker at mach speeds, but if you stop, you'll find the rasta crew smoking fatties in there.

That's the truth!

haha, so true, its not that hard, not even to technical either, the drop is the only techy part, i did it. not hard and im only 14.

so my dad said he would take to jackson this season on one condition... if i drop if from its highest point and before i saw thos pics i was like eh easy 20 footer... cake... now im scared seein the pics fukkkkk o well just huck it hahaha

great video. i know that feeling well, and got nervous watching that. the feeling standing on top, more so than the starfishing feeling, though i know that one too.

The biggest part on the cornice is HUUUGGGEEEE. Here's a picture of the easy entrace (given you don't hit the wall on either side)

It starts out there and goes to well over 30' on the right side, and that's only if you jump turn off it somehow. In reality, you'd be going 40'+ if you hit the far right with any speed.

And as far as Corbet's being the sickest line, I don't think so. There's the drop in, and then nothing else for the rest of the run. Check out Once Is Enough or Igneous Rocks on Cody Peak and then you'll see some good lines worthy of more recognition. I could even show you 20-30 lines at Bridger Bowl that are harder and a lot more technical than Corbet's. But it's still a really cool run to do.

yo just wondering....does anyone know when corbets normally opens up for the season....i heard that it has to reach a certain snow level before all the rocks are covered. Im going in january and wna tot make sure its going to be open...

ya I skied it a few years ago...its cool if its fresh otherwise it gets goat pathed easlly, there is a 10-20 foot drop depending on the time of year...overall its fun although, there are better lines around the area if you know where to look..

i hit it up in march of 04 and it was super tits, a nice 10 ft cornice into waist deep poutine

sick thing to ski i skied it in the 04/05 and 05/06 seasons my little bro also hit it at the time he was like 9 or 10 so it was sick but if ur goin to jackson eat at teton thai (its across from the antlers and down the street from the mounteering store on that corner next to the discovery thing i cant remeber) and tlk with the locals about the baccountry and when u go in go to the left bar 2 stools and look at the Jasckson Hole Backcountry Skiing Map its so sick!!! and then with some locals and avy gear ski cody peak and rocky springs bowl so legit

If the conditions are good it's like alot of other chutes, i think there is a mystique(sp?) about it. There are more techy stuff in and around Jackson. You can take the easy way down and get to the bottom of Corbet's and make the decision from there.

ur so right like all the stuff in the crags all the backcountry and some of the alta chutes when conditions arent good same with then headwall above thunder

no no, those are all such shitty places to ski. By far the worst on the mountain. If you really want to test your metal, hit up the true gnar: poo bear(if you can find it)

Im goin to jackson next week, im not worried about the drop, im worried about the rock face at the bottom that you have to turn to miss, anyone wanna tell me that its not that bad?

i went there over the summer with my fam and we hiked it and it is super steep, if you fall you are going down for a long time, but i want to try it

Haha cool thread bump, when I posted I hadn't hit Corbets yet, I skied it last winter. We hit Jackson during the only weekend when they hadnt got new snow last year. It was warm the day before and it was cold and dry the 4 days we were there, things got very icy.

The day we hit Corbets ski patrol rapelled down it in the morning to open it rather than just skiing it. All the locals said it was super sketchy that day to. It was our last day there so we went for it. I went first, made a jump turn in and washed out into a ice wall. My ski went in and my body kept moving. The energy from this impact sheared my core in front of my ski and after I skied out of the rest of the Couloir I realized the only thing holding my ski together was my base. I skied all the way to the parking lot like this.

On a pow day or even a few days after new snow I think Corbets would be sick but when the snow starts to get firmer it gets gnarlier and higher risk.

My uncle skied it once he's insane. And his 9 year old son is considering hitting it up as well, they both are amazing skiers. The drop varies in distance depending on the snow and right after is a sharp turn still steep as fuck
