Answering to binding adjustment question: the memo

I wonder how many successful law suits have been filed against shops and binding manufactures for incorrect DIN adjustment? With all the other variables involved (conditions, speed, skiers honesty in stating weight, height, and ski level ,... and jumps ... I am sure that falls out side of the companies definition of "normal use") not to mention the obvious, that people jack their din the second they leave the shop.

I am just saying, it seems unlikely that a legit lawsuit would be settled based on the on-line recommendation of one interweb douche, and another douches willingness to follow said recommendation.

Besides, I have be tweaking my own din for 15 years and have yet to have a serious issue. Lots of people tweek their din.

However, when it comes to mounting bindings ... please get it done professionally. I feel that the only way should ever mount your bindings at home is if home is a ski shop.

Okay so I realize people won't (or shouldnt, anyway) give any advice on what my DIN should be at (as opposed to the person posting before me, sigh), but I was just wondering if you guys could give me some tips...

What events should I look for to tweak my DIN (put it higher or lower, depending on the situation)? Is it a certain style, a certain progression, ... ?

What tips can you give me to check if the DIN setting is more or less okay? How can I check for prerelease and what not ?

How to tell if my DIN is wrong?

Im looking for general guidelines here, so I figure my weight etc doesnt matter at this point. I'd start from what the shop tells me, and probably stick with that. Unless I have prerelease of course

Here:

http://www.dinsetting.com/

That'll give you your correct DIN if you put your info in.

Anything you tweak from there is your business...general rule is that if you feel like you're coming out early, or way to much when you shouldn't be, turn the DIN up in .5 increments until it stops, but ski it a few days each time before you change it again to make sure.

seeing as most of the certified techs reply to this sticky..im 5'11, 195 lbs, ski 98% park, type 3 skiier, dinsetting .com reccomends a din setting of 9.5, and if i put skiier type 3+ its an 11, im set at 8 right now and do find myself preleasing a lilttle bit..boot size 28.5 what should my DIN setting truly be at?

Need the sole length of your boot, type of binding helps too.

For Salomon or Look/Rossi bindings, assuming your BSL is around 325mm (or between 311-330) then you should be set at 8.5 (@ type 3 skier code)

true. if i were to do any kind of binding adjustment on a ski that was in for a tune, but not binding work, i would probably get fired

The whole whole world dosnt revolve around lawsuits and $$$$

If you give incorrect information and people believe you, you should be feeling abd about it.

hey, i am 5'11'' 185lbs with a boot of 29.5 every time i do nose butters the back of my bindings comes up (bindings are marker 11.0) anyone got any ideas how to fix this?

And that is a claim because???..

Make a thread claiming how cool an excessively high DIN is when you break your knee.

You are exactly what is wrong with newschoolers these days.

Just do us all a favor, go ahead and set it to 18. If they make anything higer do that. like 100

i have a pair of k2 silencers and i want to remount the bingding from classic to center set and i have no idea how 2??

plz help

Take them to a ski shop?

Learn to spell and use punctuation.

Learn to use the correct formula for asking questions (I'll give you a hint: it starts with finding a thread about mounting skis...you're on your own from there).

Warranty Tech. for Rossignol, Dynastar, Look, Roxy. (all the same stuff)

(I actually work for them and have been trained on all binding types for the company)

Sorry, I'm kind of new to the site and didn't realize that there were additional pages. I guess it is a claim, but if anyone needs some info I hope that I can help.

ok...so i have a pair of skis that dont have bindings, then i have my mounted skis. The skis without bindings are drilled. Can I unscrew the bindings from the one pair and screw them onto the othr?

Yep. The chart we had at my old place assumed everyone was a complete beginner and needed easy release. So the max din it would recommend was a 6, even for the heaviest, tallest guy.
So when we had tall, heavy guys, who were expert skiers coming in, we were still forced to set a 6 to cover our asses, because even though it was obviously wrong, it's what the chart says. And if you do what the chart tells you, you won't get sued.

yah i used to put 3 down and i blew my acl with them set at 6 to 7 area but it was my fault over shooting a jump , landin in the flat and still rotating

Im certified for Salomon and its a joke, even the dumbest kid you know can get certified in like 30mins. There is no possible way anyone could sucessfully sue you on ns. Newschoolers is protected pretty damn good cause from the American legal system cause NS is a Canadian company. And for individuals getting sued its gonna take alot for someone to find enough info to sue you off of ns, so use common sense on the interweb and dont give out any personal info on the web. So to all that actually know what the are talking about on NS then go ahead and tell what you want to tell.

hey so i'm 6"0' and 150 lbs and the shop sets my bindings at 6 flat but when i throw 3s my skis have sometimes flalen off b4 and idk where a safe level would be to raise my din to

If i were you I wudn't go past 7 or 6.5 but have a shop test the bindings release force, most places do it for free.

The only way you are going to be able to properly test the release of your bindings is with a Vermont caliber. Should do it weather or not the bindings are new or used.

So this doesn't have to do with din settings or anything but I have a pair of jj's with griffons on them and a pair of alpha's with jesters on and I want to know if I can switch the two pairs of bindings out? Would it mess with the threads or glue? I know they both have the same drill pattern so could I do that?

have a shop do it, if the holes are clean it shouldnt be a problem, toss some epoxy and steel wool shavings in there and you should be set

Hello,I got Salomon Dumont 2008 with salomon STH 12 binding. I got it mounted about 2,2 inches behind the center(dont ask me why). I have already once redrilled the front part of binding because of boot size. I am thinking about redrilling the binding to the center. Is it better to leave it like this or to redrill it? Is it very bad for the ski to redrill the binding(how)? Thanks for answer

Hello,

I just bought the marker griffon 12 binding. I am 5.9 ft 165 pounds. I have been skiing since i was 2 years old every sesason, now i'm 19. I got into freestyle last lear so you could say I am a beginner in this area, however I feel very comfortable on my skis and and still go fast on them.
Could anybody suggest what should i put my bindings on ?
Thank you
