Annoying things racers do

Title says it all

What annoying things do racers do that you hate?

I hate when they say:

-can you even turn?

-you dont even know how to ski

-why are your poles so small

How bout you NS??

Not like this thread has been made before.

I get annoyed when they become super arrogant. That kinda annoys me.

i dont tend to judge racers because were all doing the same thing in different ways.

but i hate it when those little fuckers act like park skiing is just a disgrace to their fair and honorable sport

most of the racers i know ski park as well and are quite good at it too, I think there are more douchebag park skiers than there are douchey racers.

Last year, a racer came speeding through the park and snaked everyone and did a super sketchy 180 and he proceeded to claim super hard about his "helicopters" and how he doesn't see why park skiing is supposed to be hard.

I don't even race but this is an increasingly common problem in modern-day park skiing that I'm honestly pretty worried about. I'm not talking about you OP, I'm sure you know your way around the mountain, but there are so many kids buying twin tips before they learn how to ski properly, and it's starting to create a stereotype for park skiers that we don't know how to ski. I hope that this problem resolves itself before it's a lost cause.

@ robotdna , some racers can just be cocky which bugs me but that can also be seen in freestyle, at any highly competitive level people can get arrogant and defensive about what they do,

I'm sure seeing your sport and what you do from a totally different perspective can be hard to understand and relate to especially when we're all such weirdos jumping around on grind bars and doing twirlly birds off ramps.

It's easier to write something like freestyle off as dumb or insignificant rather than take the time to understand it.

I know i've presumptively judged people because they ski race and I try not to do that anymore because skiing is such a small community we need all the help we can get to further the sport and grow.

There are racers who have been annoyed with me riding square tip skis in jeans as they're in an aerodynamic sped suit and helmet but this is just a lack of understanding for a fellow skier.

in the end it's all skiing, lets just get along

they ski like they have a dildo in there ass, keep dem skis together, way harder and looker so much smother.. just sayn

here's what I really dislike about racers:

1) they actually know how to ski everywhere on the mtn

2) they don't look like some clown in 5xl tall tees

3) they get more women (direct cause of 2)

4) they generally don't waste their time whining about park skiers

Seriously, its kids like you that ruin the fun, OP. a skier is a skier is a skier no matter how they get down the hill. Embrace your two plank bretheren.

Threw my skis in the mud the day I broke them. I had to stay after the mountain closed too because my brother raced (he isnt douchey tho) and he was sick, so he wasnt there, but my dad wanted to thank them. If you throw my skis in the mud, I'm gonna get pissed

Before too much hate is tossed around at racers, I ask anyone who hates on them to try and actually race. Its a lot harder than it looks, and it is the reason that most of the racers who do spend a decent amount of time in the park are also good at park. Racing gives a great base for any type of skiing that racers may move onto after they finish racing. Yes there may be some douchy racers but no more douche racers than there are freestyle skiers.

#1 is actually not true, most ski racers only know how to ski groomers, and that is because most ski racers only ski when they have ski races or practice. They don't often go skiing for fun.

Skiing is skiing, some just go faster than others and some huck harder than others. Steeze is steeze no matter how you measure it. When I went to college I read the Gnar manual, and that pretty much erased the racer in me because it made the whole mountain a race and park.

quite alot of this. I have friends who are quite into their racing and wont go anywhere near chopped pow/crud or even ski in anything close to low vis. if they have a choice about it. they do know how to go skiing for fun though, i think, just don't do it often. We have a mutual respect for what each other do as we understand how difficult both are.

as opposed to a lot of the new generation of park skiers that can't make a single turn down anything more than a green circle

I dated a racer and it was pretty interesting to see our skiing differences. Me being really into park and him being a really good (national level) racer, there's definitely some differences. It almost seemed like we were doing two completely different sports.

i hate on racing, not racers, shits gay as aids, and yes i tried for one year and is the lamest shit ive ever encountered, id rather watch paint dry.

Not really, its often quite true. How do you expect to be able to ski well when you have a pair of skis for every turn size? And how do you expect to be able to ski well when all you can do is jump from edge to edge? There are definitely racers that are awesome all-around skiers but the skills that are taught to racers are not conducive to being well-rounded or skiing outside of an ice-injected, perfectly groomed race course where you have gates telling you where to turn.

Ski racers dont just ski gates all the time, and ski racing teaches fundamentals and strength which is what is needed to be good at skiing everywhere else on the mountain. Look at todd ligare. Hitting a jump line all day or a rail might make you good at tricks but it isnt going to teach you anything about edge control or going fast.

Always amazes me this thread....

Yea there are douche racers but WAYYYYY more douche park riders believe it or not.

Racing develops fundamentals to become a rediculous skier in any terrain for the most part. And most of those dudes are pretty good in the park because there always on the mountain anyways.

Park skiers are by in large fucking clowns. Huge XXXXLLL t shirts that look rediculous. Horrendous skills outside of the terrain park by in large (generalization not everyone), judge there skiing ability by how big a jump they can huck themselves off and how good they are at sliding on a piece of metal.

I ski stratton a lot and see some of the worst skiing i have ever seen by park skiers who are pretty sick in the park but horrendous outside of it

tom wallish was a racer, seth morrsion was a racer , and i used to race . racing makes you a solid skier until you can do both aspects of the sport you cant hate on either side. for one i fucking hate racers and park skier i just like to ski and have fun... just about everyone in the sport needs to see, is that is not a competition just go shred and do your thing.

now to add to this thread… Get the fucking snow off my boot dad its my time to get in the gate.

the one thing I hate the most about racers, especially on my team, is that skiing is just their 'winter sport' and nothing more to them. sure they have rich parents that take them out west to their vail condo every year, but they just don't have the passion for skiing that my friends or I do. They only ski at practices and races... and nothing more. bums me out
