Annoying things racers do

im hoping. But above all, racing gives you balls and the will to send it. Thats a skill that you can use in any aspect of skiing.

Thats nice, you must be really fast.

The truth is though that race teams are quickly losing their relevance, at least if you want to be a well-rounded skiers. Mogul skiers learn far more valuable skills than racers as far as skiing the entire mountain, and freeski teams as well. Comparing a kid that does race training every weekend and twice during the week to some park rat that taught themselves how to ski and goes to the mountains once a week to hit rails is ridiculous. But if you put a competitive mogul skier and a racer side by side at the top of a pow run I guarantee you that the mogul skier will shred harder any day of the week. Why? Because they learn basics, but they also learn skills like how to control speed, pick lines, take off and land, and ride a variety of snow conditions.

The side that thinks this bullshit is getting real old real fast. I came from racing and still knock a few gates every now and again. I skied park in the late 1990's to late 2000's. Now I mainly put on the touring gear and go find my own pow stashes.

Was anything that I wrote incorrect? There are way too many park skiers that think they're hot shit these days. There are just as many, if not more park skiers that are complete and utter douchebags than racers of the same breed. I've had more park skiers run into the backs of my skis than racers or snowboarders...park skiers talk more shit about eachother than racers do.

I really don't get the hate on racers...what is it really? Are you jealous they came from money? (fun fact, most of the top comp skiers came from money) Are you jealous they ski faster? Seriously, what is it?

It's called snow, we're all on wooden boards with steel edges and p-tex bases sliding down a hill.

Sure, some racer's may have fairly large egos based off of how much their sport costs to participate in. However, the majority of racer's I've hung out with have all been pretty awesome people, more so then a lot of park skiers. Both sides of the sport will have the cocky kids and the people who are out there with the real passion. So OP, just remember, park skiers do just as many "annoying things" as racers do.

My edges are literally about as sharp as the round part of my ski pole, so I'm out sliding all over the place like I'm on an ice rink. Not sure why i haven't paid the small amount of cash yet to tune em up.

I think its hilarious that when its dumping snow, the racers have to go out and side slip the course to make it icier. When I ski by it feels like I'm passing a chain gang.

Oh, I understand. I've raced my entire life, and see both cultures. I like a little of everything, and think balance is in order for you really to progress.

I've noticed park has really made me pay attention to balance, which is pretty cool. Racing gets you forward and more aggressive, which is also a helpful trait.

And pow, well, that's just magical.

;)

As someone who races the thing that bothers me the most is how the courses are maintained. I just kind of wish for once the course didn't have to be sideslipped to perfect ice before anyone goes.

I think people are just getting anxious. Once they feel that cool fall breeze it makes these last 2 months feel twice as long, causing their hateful side to come out.

we all do the same thing here guys we might look at it diffrent but really we all can have fun up on the mounitine doing diffrent thingds so lets just all get along. you dont have to like what they r doing but it is there chocie to do it so might as well just leve them alone and have fun . becuse there are many ways to have fun up there. it is all how u look at it

If you had to answer then honestly you'd probably say no to both.

A lot of the best pros grew up racing. Just because you got into skiing because it's now "cool" doesn't mean you're cool, it just makes you ignorant.

haha at my mountain all of the racers have like line afterbangs or something stupid like that!!!!!!!! wtf!!!!!!!! they ale dress like queers and have those big ass poc helmets and spandex speed suits its the funniest shit ever. and they all ask like 1000 questions when I get on the lift with them hahaha so i just mess around and answer them with something completely bullshit. Why are your poles so short? ME- they make my dick look bigger and it makes the ladies cum. racer- ohh

4 years ago when I first started skiing, I bought K2 Bad Seeds. Got them mounted pretty far back and didn't even go near the park.

Butt liek 2 yrs l8er here I am doin dope 360's

Speaking the truth right there man. there's bad types on both sides park skiers and racers, both disciplines are great just different ends of the skiing spectrum

I don't give a shit. They can do whatever they want. Why hate when they are just out there to have as much fun as you? What's wrong with them enjoying it? Fuck it

All of the guys on the race team at my hill are in the friendzone.. but when I race with twintips its like shit get on my dick girl. but they dont cuz they are A+ students. Fuckers.

Natural selection. All those that try to ski park before learning how to actually ski will eventually die off (from either traumatic skiing injury or just from being too stupid) and balance will be restored. No more shitty name for park skiers.

i hate it when they are stuck in training on pow days. probably the most annoying thing ever.

Reading through all this just makes me shake my head. It's kind of ridiculous the disrespect some NS members have for fellow skiers. As long as they are on the snow having fun, that's what's good. If a fellow skier is being an arrogant ass hole, judge him/her for that, not for being a racer or a park rat.

Mentioned before in the thread, but a lot of pros used to race in one way or another. Moguls, gs, etc you name it. This is especially true in the big mountain dominators. They are such well rounded skiers. There are some racers that obviously give themselves a bad rep, but certainly not all. When I was a lifty out west we hosted only a few races a year, and were specifically told not to let the racers skip line as they had no right to do so. The worst culprits? Coaches! Trying to drag their ENTIRE team ahead of line and being really rude to me and others. One even completely disregarded me, took his team around to the exit line on the gondola and tried to sneak on! I stopped the lift and made them GTFO. Not acceptable behavior, and this gives racers a bad rep.

I never raced, but I wish I had because it helps develop you as a skier, especially at speed. I'm glad every skier is out there having fun, but when I see someone on twip tips who is barely able to ski trying to hit the park and making fun of racers, it's laughable. Support and shred with all skiers!!

Exactly!

Coaches are the ones that instill this sense of entitlement to racers. Most disregard it because they actually had a proper upbringing but there are always some that give the rest a bad name.

Same goes for park skiers. There are some that give the rest a bad name

I don't really mind racers, maybe because I race for my high school, but I hear a lot of pro skiers say that they used to race or do moguls competitively for their home mountain. I did that for three years, then topped due to a fractured maxilla and picked up freeskiing. Being able to carve and ski backwards can help big time. Look at Torin Yater-Wallace, and all other big name free skiers and see how they ski with steeze and are able to stomp the perfect tricks.

Let's get back on topic. I find it annoying when racers decide to only train competitively instead of having fun while doing what any of us do and use the free time for skiing off the trail and create some stoke. Also I hate it when they decide to go in the park and not do anything but awkwardly straight air every jump and use the lips of rails as side jumps.

when they ask yo race u, they will just do their stupid carving shit, just go straight down and they will bitch about "Not skiing the right way" after u beat them

....Possibly the most ignorant post I have EVER seen on this forum in regards to racing. Racing is not losing its relevance in terms of well rounded skiers, in fact, its gaining it. I see numerous posts on these forums about kids joining the race teams for one of two reasons. 1st. It allows them to get out and ski. 2nd. It provides them with fundamentals. Most racers who have made it far into the racing scene will say that they did not start training gates until they were 11-12. Up until that point it is about fundamentals such as balance, ski control, forward pressure, proper stance, etc. You cannot be a good racer without balance. Simple enough, youre not balanced you will not finish a course.

Trust me, after racing up until college from the age of 8, including an academy, racers love NOTHING more than a sweet powder day. Most racers have a pair of skis for these days, whether theyre old racers, twin tips, or pow skis. Nothing is better than ditching the spandex, race helmet, and all the other gear that accompanies gates, and hitting the woods. Many of the best racers I have seen are also sweet park and big mountain skiers. Nick Martini, Todd Ligare, Jon Olsson, Max Hammer, and Colter Brehmer were all racers are one point in time.

You must have never been a racer if you think that racing doesnt involve controlling speed, picking lines, and choosing take off points. Try skiing the Beaver Creek Downhill. For the Eagle jump all you see is the horizon. No landing zone. You have to go off inspection as well as feel of your speed. You mess that up, the consequences will be dire. Same goes for Slalom. Coming into a combo with too much speed and you will blow up. Dont even get me started about choosing a line...

As someone who did both, i can say 100% that park kids are much, much more annoying and dickish than racers. The sad part is about 5 years ago, the park vibe used to be so much better and racer used to be worse, but after the last 3 years of skiing park it's just been getting worse and worse.
