Americans, what are your cell phone plans? Data, long distance, cost etc. Our phone companies in Canada have advertising campaings on right now claiming that our plans are cheaper than yours, This is all because Verizon is apparently going to be buying a small cell phone company and coming into Canada. I really doubt Canadian cell phone plans are cheaper personally.

For a single line on ATT with unlimited texting and 500 minutes of call its 30 dollars a month. For my families plan i pay 40 dollars a month unlimited everything, except shared data (8gb) on verizon.

AT&T

Unlimited txting/calling (shitload of rollover minutes & international)

200mb data

2 lines

$110/mo

Me too on the txting, phew!

Unlimited data plans are expensive as fuck. $45/mo with AT&T, such horseshit. No thank you.

yea no. Canada has about the most expensive cell phone plans in the world. Most of what these ads are saying are straight up lies. Especially when they're saying they're the 'little guys who care about their customers' and shit like that. I really hope Verizon gets a foothold here and gives them some good competition. Bell/Telus/Rogers are about the most greedy companies in Canada and deserve a massive slap in the wallet.

Anybody that falls for those ads is an idiot. "That's not what I call fair competition" Give me a break.

They're complaining that these companies are going to use Canadas infrastructure without contributing anything. They don't get to just tap their wires in and use it for free. They are going to pay huge usage fees on the infrastructure. Rogers wouldn't even exist if Canada didn't do the same thing years ago.

Sorry those ads just irk be because I know people are so gullible they might actually work.

Oh and the whole "close the loophole" thing, isn't actually some obscure loophole that Verizon is exploiting. It's Canada actively trying to bring in more competition to create some more competition.

Its calculated for you via the website ;)

Not that you need to know, miss unlimited.

And usually you get a txt msg when you're nearing your limit.

3gb is basically unlimited...heavy users barely break 2gb even w/ 4g and never connecting to wi-fi.

i don't understand people's outrage over data caps

Exactly. That's the best part, I dont need to know hahahaha. all of you minions on a data plan, bow down to my awesomeness :P

I should say that the new legislature on Canadian phone companies has made it much better for the consumer.

I was able to go from 75 dollars a month for

2 or 300 minutes

500 mb of data

voicemail and call display

free long distance

to 50 dollars for

450 minutes

unlimited evenings and weekends

nation wide

600 mb data

picture and video messaging

I rechecked my info, $45 is 3gb, and then you pay $10 for every gb you go over. So I was wrong.

AT&T doesn't have a unlimited data plan. At least I didn't see a choice.

No, you are not. AT&T will or already has throttled your data speed, and if you try to upgrade to a 4g lte device they will most likely force you to change your plan.

it's not unlimited when you're in rural areas where the only option is wireless internet where they charge you $105 for only 15 GB of shitty internet. That's when you're better off tethering your phone to your computer rather than spend outrageous amounts on little to no internet for a whole household.

the other option being dial-up.

luckily where I am we just are within range of a different wireless internet service that uses a fixed tower and is way cheaper, but some people the next road over are not so lucky.

Try spending over $100 as a basic fee for only 15 gb/month for a household of 5 people. It makes you want to murder every Bell employee ever.

yeah Verizons gonna come over here and put Rogers and Bell in their fucking places. fuck those companies they gouge you at every step.we pay WAY more than you Americans

oh, well for data caps on home internet connections i totally get that...especially if they are wired.

damn dude canada must be a third world county, my home in rural WA state (1100 people in the town) gets full bars LTE and 100 up and down fiber to the home

Canada has what I'm guessing is about 20-30 percent more land mass, and about 1/10th the population. So I can see why our prices are higher since we don't have as many people to break down the costs. But hey if they're working on lowering them I'm all for it.

Got grandfathered in with sprint. My fam pays like $120 a month for 4 lines of unlimited everything

Not sure if this is serious but the uk is alot cheaper. I pay £30 so about 45 bucks for unlimited texts, unlimited data which I can use as a hot spot so use it for my laptop, and 1000 mins. Free phone too, and mine is one of the more expensive plans.

unlimited multimedia texting2gb of data

i think like 120 calling minutes with free calling to my family.

and it's like 60 / month

it's bs.

I dont understand the need for unlimited data. I have exceeded 1 gb of data like 3 times in the entirety of owning an iPhone. And I make no effort to control my usage.

For most people, you're right...there isn't much of a need for unlimited data. However, I am not most people...I use 3-4 GB pretty regularly.

I administer our corporate accounts and we've got several iPads that use 3-5 GB pretty regularly as well.

Makes sense for work,, but i dont think thats very typical on NS. I just dont understand how the average 13-18 year old uses that much data.

You can use your iPhone as a hotspot. So if you don't have Internet where you are you can connect your laptop to your phone and use the Internet like normall. So you can download films music ect, you quickly can get up to 10-15gb's if your downloading films ect.

Why? We have 4g here in London I generally get a good signal so although it takes a bit longer then broadband you can still get stuff pretty fast. And if you have no other option why not. I stayed in a place recently for a month and did not want to get braid and just for a month so used the phone and it was pretty good really.

Really? I'm the only Tmobile user here?

4g/LTE unlimited data with no cap.

2 GB tethered data with $10 per 1GB over that.

Unlimited text

Unlimited talk

Free roaming on At&t towers

(Unlimited 3G data tethering with no cap if you have an android and 3g hotspot app)

$70 a month.

Oh.... and no contract. Month to month.

When I go to Norway, plans, let alone cell phones (if you get it with a plan), cost half as much as they do in the US, if not less.

My verizon plan in the US costs about $110 per month.

we have me, my mom and two brothers on our plan, 2 iphones and 2 old phones, a mifi mobile hotspot because we dont get any other internet service at our house and a home phone, and we sometimes go over $400 a month. fuck dat even if we stay under all our data limits its still $320 i think.

and to the kid who said 2gb is a lot even for a heavy user, its not at all hahah i have 2gb and ive gone over to 3 or 4 each month because we dont really have wifi at home

i would think it would take forever. i have a hard enough time downloading via broadband. i'm way too damn impatient to download via wireless tether.

^ well it depends on your signal I guess an if you get 4g. I would say a popular film would take 30mins in broadband and maybe 2 hours on a phone so yeah slower but no too bad at all. You can stream stuff online fine too so you can watch films and TV that way if you don't want to wait.

I used 18.2gb of data this month and it's only the 22nd.. I get that warning text from ATT that they're going to throttle my data pretty much every month, so I have to call customer service and use the phrase "I've been paying you cocksuckers for unlimited data for 4 fucking years, and I'll be damned if you try to slow down my bandwidth, now pass the phone to your supervisor you little bitch". lo and behold, never have had to deal with throttled bandwidth.
