America

HEY! i have a great idea...LETS ALL BASH AMERICA!seriously though, there are loads of things wrong with our country and its government....loads and loadsBut i am severely disappointed in all of you. Im appalled by the extent of which people hate on their own country on this website. True, America has a plethora of things about it that make you want to cringe, but where is the patriotism? where is the love for the country that albeit is slightly messed up, still happens to be one of (not the only) the worlds greatest countries that has been supplying you with education and other benefits since the day you were born. Maybe we should look at the rest of the world and really soak up the big picture...EVERY country has good/bad, no country is perfect and no leader of a country is perfect....That being said. Dont you think comparetively speaking, we live in a pretty kick ass country? (If you are one of the people that are gonna say (insert country name) is way better and you'd rather live there then in the states....please just feel fortunate you were not born into a third world country, or a dictatorship, or a genocide.....the fact that your even on front of a computer and able to log on to newschoolers makes you one of the more priviledged people in the world) this is not meant to offend anyone, im just disappointed by the apparent lack of a love for our country and the appallingly large presence of people who just complain about America. end rant

we have so many patriotic people. thats almost the problem, how misdirected some peoples patriotism is

Shit, I love America. Best place in the world to live. We have so much freedom and I love living here. Yeah, there's a ton of shit going wrong, but not everything can be perfect and as long as we have active voices fighting to make things better, progression is the only way. And we have the freedom to have active voices. So hell yeah America!

I fucking hate the U.S. Everywhere I go I end of having great time and I meet tons of great people from all sorts of backgrounds. It fucking blows. I work hard and pay for a great education at a nice university, shit sucks. It's going to snow a couple feet on friday and I am going to ski sick terrain all day, FLM.

i agree! theres just so much freedom and opportunity here! where does it stop?!
i also hate when other countries want to be like us, and then bash us for being so horrible. ughhhh
theres so many things right with america, i cant take it!
....and if u live in america and dont like it, just shut up and leave cuz u've obv never been anywhere else.

it's mainly because this site is comprised of a bunch of kids who really don't have a fucking clue what the rest of the world is really like outside of what they see on tv or the interwebz. most of them don't have any idea what it's like to have nothing, so they don't really appreciate what it's like to have everything (so to speak.)
mystery solved.

Be happy with what you got. It took thousands of men to fight to preserve our freedom and everyday life. I mean, Shit. Would you like to live in a country where every single aspect and thing of your life is controlled and ran by the government and if you speak out about it, you either get imprisoned or shot?

All I have to say is that in no other country in the world do you have the inalienable right to freedom of expression and are innocent until proven guilty (in nearly every other country in the world you are guilty until proven innocent).

Stars n' bars baby!

i can't say that america doesn't have some awesome things going on, but that doesn't change the fact that it has just as much going on that i find unacceptably retarded in a country that's supposed to be so great. mostly in politics, ie, glenn beck being, you know, listened to, having the tea party, you know, supported, having the entire country, you know, pitted against one another on almost every major issue. it kinda makes me sad that such a powerhouse western country is turning so insane, because i tend to be a fan of western culture.

Look into the supreme court cases

Schenk v United States

Miller v. California

Morse v. Fredrick

Abrams v. United States

US v. O'brien

All of these court cases limited what you can say (or do as acts of symbolic speech), although we do have alot more freedom then other countries.

When has the United States not been "pitted against one another"?
This isn't some new phenomena that has been concocted by Glenn Beck and Limbaugh and shit.
Hell, many of the people that wrote the Declaration of Independence and worked to form the early US gov. hated one another. The country also fought a horrendously bloody civil war, you know, like 150 years ago. And there have been more philosophical clashes over the centuries to list.
Aside from the fat people, and the horrendously reckless spending & entitlements, America is the shit.

you're right, the united states should be no better now than it was at the time of declaration of independance and the civil war, the tea party's support is in no way troubling, its definitely going to take the country in a healthy direction, and beck and limbaugh are fair and balanced commentators with the country's best interests at heart.

The country is better. What I was trying to say is that there is a legacy of disagreement, even violent discourse, even through the 20th and in to the 21st century.
There is nothing wrong with the likes of Beck or Limbaugh. They don't have to be fair and balanced. They can be as partisan as they damn well please. Nothing wrong or un-american about that. Just because you disagree with their position and tactics for ratings doesn't mean it is wrong. But then again, you're Canadian so why I am not surprised; all civil discourse in America is caused by them...

The way i see this issue is that most kids/young adults now a days have a new trend of hating on the western culture while still indulging in the lifestyle heavily. It makes me sick to my stomach knowing that every first year university student in america/canada instantly believe the fact they have taken entry level courses in education that deal with areas like "social problems" instantly become an expert on said situation and run their mouth like they have all the answers. The truth of the matter is there is no easy answer to social problems in north america let alone the rest of the world. We, living in north america, are small fish in a big pond and seem to forget how lucky we are to have the material goods and medicine that is considered a need in our way of life while a vast majority of human beings on this planet do not have a constant source of fresh water and health care. How many children on this planet die everyday due to starvation and lack of medicine while we have a culture that can inadvertly cause a human being to waste food in the form of eating disorders. Our western way of life is not natural and has only been in practice for a infinitely small percent of time of our species existence but we have now started to accept it as life but seem to not realize the amount of depression and social problems may come hand in hand with the newer lifestyle. How is it a place such as california can settle such a large city practically in the middle of a desert with no natural access for water or power production? Is this right? America's current culture is built around excess, not conservation or consideration. How can the wealth of a country be divided so greatly? There are people in our countries that are never given a chance to achieve greatness due to circumstance while there are many in the country who live a life without any consideration for human life. Knowledge of the world is no longer a premium in our current society, people are willing to keep their heads in the sand and disregard information and exploration out of their our "fishbowl".

You dont have to go far to find a modern culture that isnt so concerned solely with itself, look at places like sweden, the swiss, and a fair amount of the middle european cultures. Places like switzerland and norway place regard on quality of life for their entire population rather than the rich. These countries also dont show such apathy for the environment and promote internal energy production and proactive means to produce said electricity.

Dont get me wrong, all countries/cultures have their own restraints but for a country so full of "freedom" and "promise" there seems to be a lull in the concern for human life and well being. I just feel our 2 countires ( canada/america) could offer so much but we willingly choose to wear blinders and choose a life of ignorance towards the world.

How is it fucking insane?
I don't listen to people of the likes of Beck or Limbaugh, but I'm still curious how it is fucking insane. There is a substantial part of the country that does not buy in to liberal ideals. Even if many of their arguments are misguided or broadcasted from a few who sensationalize shit, some hypocrisy or excessive measures aren't limited to one side. For every minuscule instance of whack-jobness within a movement/ideology such as that embraced by conservatives and tea party shit that can be brought to light, one could be found for what has been going on with democrats and staunch liberals, but they aren't labeled as "fucking insane."If people want to listen in mass to somebody like Limbaugh and have him get massive contracts while getting "educated'" more power to them. If people want to tune in to MSNBC (but who does) and do the same thing, then go for it. The fact that there can be open, even powerful, opposition existing is a powerful asset that very, very few countries can embrace. As long as they aren't calling for somebody's death or some crazy shit, then by all means.

lololol, all the countries you just named are notorious for keeping to themselves and now they are pissed because people from third world Africa are immigrating like mad to their countries. They like to pretend they live in a perfect world, but now they have to deal with immigrants taking advantage of their system. Tolerance is easier said than done.

P.S. wake and learn what is really going down. No one trains and advocates for the protection of land worldwide more than the U.S. Oh wait, it also looks as if we have more protected land than ANY other country in the world. Apathy my ass.

Somebody listen to this kid. Calling somebody "insane" or even evil because they have radically different outlooks and beliefs does more to hurt the democratic process than help it.

Even believing a Tea Party activist or hardcore socialist should be shut up (as tempting as that may be), it's the premise for how our country works.

i don't give a fuck about politics, if you have some batshit insane liberal media shit to throw at me, please do, i'd just use it as more proof america was insane, but you simply can't call what beck does good for america. he says what the uninformed americans want to hear. this guy has almost 15 million people hanging on his word every week, and he says shit like this:

1. "This president I think has exposed himself over and over again as a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture....I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist." –on President Obama, sparking an advertiser exodus from his FOX News show, July 28, 2009 (Source)

2. "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. ... No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out. Is this wrong? I stopped wearing my What Would Jesus -- band -- Do, and I've lost all sense of right and wrong now. I used to be able to say, 'Yeah, I'd kill Michael Moore,' and then I'd see the little band: What Would Jesus Do? And then I'd realize, 'Oh, you wouldn't kill Michael Moore. Or at least you wouldn't choke him to death.' And you know, well, I'm not sure." –responding to the question "What would people do for $50 million?", "The Glenn Beck Program," May 17, 2005 (Source)

3. "When I see a 9/11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh shut up' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining." –"The Glenn Beck Program," Sept. 9, 2005 (Source)

4. "The only [Katrina victims] we're seeing on television are the scumbags." –"The Glenn Beck Program," Sept. 9, 2005 (Source)

5. "I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today." –on why people who lost their homes in forest fires in California had it coming, "The Glenn Beck Program," Oct. 22, 2007 (Source)

6. "I have been nervous about this interview with you because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies. ... And I know you're not. I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way." –interviewing Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim U.S. congressman, Glen Beck's show on CNN's Headline News, Nov. 14, 2006 (Source)

7. "Al Gore's not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization...And you must silence all dissenting voices. That's what Hitler did. That's what Al Gore, the U.N., and everybody on the global warming bandwagon [are doing]." –"The Glenn Beck Program," May 1, 2007 (Source)

8. "So here you have Barack Obama going in and spending the money on embryonic stem cell research. ... Eugenics. In case you don't know what Eugenics led us to: the Final Solution. A master race! A perfect person. ... The stuff that we are facing is absolutely frightening." –"The Glenn Beck Program," March 9, 2009 (Source)

9. "You have the artwork of Mussolini there, here in New York at Rockefeller Plaza." –analyzing the artwork decorating Rockefeller Plaza, which he said contained a hammer and sickle, Glenn Beck show on FOX News Channel, Sept. 2, 2009 (Source)

10. "O-L-I-G-A-R-H-Y." –misspelling "oligarchy" on his chalk board while claiming he had deciphered a secret code that he said was proof President Obama was trying to create an "Oligarhy," Aug. 27, 2009, Glenn Beck show on FOX News Channel (Source)

the states is fucked. cant really say much else. wall street runs the show and the nation is under the illusion of having freedom and democracy while being carefully controlled by the government

If those are your biggest concerns....you need to travel.
Oh wow, you're a fan of Western culture? You're from Canada....no shit....go away ignorant fool.

Generally this. I was one of them before I had so many opportunities to live elsewhere, travel, and room with with international influences from 6 continents. Lots of perspective, lots of change to my attitude.
