final post in this thread:
I'm not even sponsored anymore, and i still get hate for showing up at AM biking comps (btw even the smallest AM biking comps hand out cash prizes). so maybe i'm a little biased against pros competing with ams. either way, i still think it's pretty lame to steal the spotlight from kids who aren't sponsored so that you can make a quick buck. maybe Godbout needed that cash, but i don't doubt that some of the ams in that comp needed it more. my opinion of this situation might change if hear of more pros showing up at am comps because they need the money, at which point i would wonder how ams are ever going to get any recognition.
it would be nice to have heard that Godbout showed up at this comp and some kid with no sponsors beat him, but unfortunately that didn't happen, so all these amateur kids are gonna have to wait for the next comp, and hope that a pro doesn't show up at that one.
i just don't think it's good for the competitons that pros can show up, knowing they will wipe out all the other competitors. it would discourage me from competing if i knew that i was going to get my ass kicked every time by somebody who is already getting paid to ski because they are that good.
i know that at the AM biking comps i go to now, i get people coming up to me and telling me i shouldn't be there because i used to be pro. like i said before, if i was showing up to AM comps while i was still sponsored, i would probably get beat up, not to mention i'd feel like crap for knowing i was going to win from the very beginning (there's a reason pros are pros). so if the worst Godbout is gonna hear for it is a thread on NS, then i guess skiers are lot nicer than bikers.
