Afterbangs on pow?

Ok so i might be going to banff (not sure which mountain yet) for march break and I realized I dont have pow skis, with the chance that we get pow.. Would I be okay skiing pow on my afterbangs for a couple days? Or would it be shitty and just fall every minute and shit.. I really have to ask this because i've never really skied pow, I live in ontario and my home mountain(hill) is really small and is 90+ man made snow so I dont have a clue about pow..

Thanks in advance

You CAN do it. If its just for a few days, i would deal with it, but thats because i am too poor for new skis.

any ski can ski anything, it just depends on the skier to really make a difference. With that said, fatter skis will be better in pow but not worth paying for them for one trip. you can always rent/demo if you decide you can't put up with a smaller waist in pow

Nobody had pow skis before there were pow skis, but they still skied pow. Make do with what you have, or demo a pair from a shop.

If you get pow, go to a local shop and see if you can demo some pow skis. Most legit shops these days have a demo fleet with the goods you'll need.

I've done it. Not the most comfortable ski in pow but definitely possible. Stay backseat.
I'd definitely recommend demoing a pair of fat skis though. You probably wont enjoy the pow as much on a floppy 2x4 of a ski.

If it is your first time skiing pow you will certainly fail for a while if youre on afterbangs or anthems. . .that said ive ripped pow on Thin Skis/Anthems that were centermount, just go fast.

better but still not awesome. I skied pow with my phil larose pro skis for 2 years before making the switch to a slightly fatter more classic all mountain ski in powder. It helped alot but I can't say it made my skiing that that much better. You can ski pow in whatever its just different.

No, please DO NOT stay backseat. What you want is fifty-fifty wieght on each leg, and to work the front of the skis. Of course this is difficult on centermounted parkskis, but it is still the way to go.

this...

i had a 2 foot pow day last year on a bangs and it kinda sucked. i fell a ton and u need a bunch of speed just to stay afloat. so stick to steeper stuff cuz the speed is better.

if u can demo a fat ski. havent used one yet but it seems like it would be a lot better

skiing pow in the backseat.... I point that out for being retarded and that makes me dumb?

you my friend are right next to Mr Backseat, your both retarded

up until this year i'd never skied something over 84mm waist in pow, you will be fine on those. once you've tried fat skis you never EVER want to go back but they will do for just a couple of days.

You gotta stay at least a little backseat on a ski like the bangs, unless you like snow snakes, double ejecting, and face fucking the snow. Good luck trying to turn, or float for that matter with your weight centered.

not gonna lie. i've been skiing since i could walk, and i skied my invaders in everytihng for 3 seasons hahaha (i had 3 pairs, 2 were free on warrenty).

Anyways, i'll tell you this.

Its gonna suck, because yeah chances are you will be backseat, chances are you will get gnarly shin bang, and chances are you will destroy your leg muscles.

however even if you're not riding back seat it can still be awkward as fuck and it fucking sucks.

just rent some pow skis

I went to utah and rode powder with my afterbangs and they worked fine. They aren't floaty like EP pros or Hellbents, but it was still a TON of fun skiing pow on them.

i work at sunshine and the deepest pow we have had this year i was riding my rossi scratch fs's. you will be fine.

and we hardly ever get snorkle deep snow so if it does dump you will be just fine.

The Ski Stop in banff has brand new Faction Royales and 4frnt EHP's that you can demo for under 50 bucks a day

this. you can ski pow on anything as long as youre actually a good skier all around and not just a park rat. fat skis are more of an aid

afterbangs are not powder skis and they will not work. don't believe the hype. do yourself a favor and demo some powder boards when you are in the deep. it's the price of a case of beer. anyone who thinks narrow skis are fine in the pow will be eating shit and sinking in badass snow that you should be floating on. why bring a knife to a gun fight homie???

Wtf are you talking about, unless your legs are made of toothpicks, any ski can be used in the powder if you're a strong enough skier. Granted, a powder ski would made it easier, but what do you think skiers did on their 230cm length, 67mm waist skis before anything over 70mm in the waist even existed? Actually, I'll just tell you, they did conditioning to get ready for the season, sucked up the pain for the gain, and had legs of steel mother fucker.

If you want to spend the money, demo a pair, you'll be happier that way. If you are tight on cash, just use your afterbangs and you'll be fine. At times, you will have to lean back to keep your momentum, but I wouldn't say it's leaning back as much as it is throwing your weight around with your lower body. Push your feet through the turns and do some legwork before leaving for the trip cuz you'll leg'll burn like a bitch if you don't from skiing the powder, especially if you've never skied it before.

I used my short ass invaders in pow for a season before I got my bacons, and they kinda did the trick. You won't be able to ride pow the same way you ride packed snow though (and despite the fact that the one guy thinks this is stupid, you will almost for sure need to keep your weight a little backseat unless you want to experience the joys of tip dive). That said, pow is pow and if you've never skied it before it's gonna be fun as hell regardless of what skis you're on.
Now that I have my bacons though, skiing pow is even more fun and allows for a good centered stance. A rockered ski would only be even more drastic an improvement. So demo/rent a pair of fatties if you can, but like everyone else said, probably not worth actually buying fat skis for one trip. Your bangs will do.

if you know how to ski you can ski anywhere with almost anything. ive 5ed before with my dynastar slolom skis. dnt get me wrong they were heavy as fuck to spin with.

yeah man. you are right....seriously. you can ski anything in powder, ice, crud, groomers on anything. but there is a reason why fat skis are getting the attention they deserve and EVERY company is now making fat rockered skis. that reason is because they make the skiing that much better and you can ride some major shit on them all day. to each their own. so ski whatever. but if you want to make the most of your time and do some shit you can't do on your groomer or park skis, than get the fattest board you can get and have the best day of your life. it's like crack

I took my step ups outside the park for a couple runs. I was getting thrown around in the chopped up stuff but uncut snow was ok. Just had to lean back alot and be ready getting throw foward

The truth right here. Had my first proper pow day of the season yesterday, and it was glorious.

Too bad it started raining again today though :(

That's why I said he'd be happier demoing if he has to opportunity. I mean, I own CRJ's...

I just hate it when people say you can't ski powder on non-powder skis.

Everyone pointing people skiing pow on old skis is forgetting that they are super long and BACKMOUNTED. Making it way easier to ski pow on. Center mounted park skis are way harder to ski in deep snow.

hahah thats great but it shows you what skiing has become.. i just got domains and ill talk them in the little powder i get once and a while so go for it if you cant afford a true pow ski
