So my friend and I are planning a trip to Uganda and the surrounding areas. Is there anyone who has been to Africa? Any tips or ideas?
 
I have a friend that's in Ethiopia now with the peace corps. Make sure you take your antimalarial medication daily and use mosquito nets every single night. He got malaria from one night of not using a net even though he was taking the antimalarial pills. He recently recovered from it though, luckily. Don't mess around with that stuff.
 
Average penis size in Uganda is 17,43 cm.

Loosen that anus beforehand, you don't want it to tear in the bush, you'll get nasty infections.
 
Malaria shots/pills is the biggest thing.

Also, isn't Uganda in like the middle of a pretty nasty civil war? I would honestly suggest going to a place like say, South Africa or Morocco instead.

I lived in Botswana for a month but thats pretty different from Uganda. i wish i knew more about the specifics of that area. Africa is amazing and you will fall in love with it when you go.
 
Well Kony isn't there right now I'm pretty sure he is in the Congo starting more civil wars. I've heard that at this time its one of the safest places to go.
 
I'm going to Malawi for five weeks in July to volunteer, and then going on a 4 day safari through Southern Zambia at the end of my stay. I've never been more excited for anything in my life...but yeah, the biggest thing I've been warned about is Malaria..and TB. Recently there's been a lot of talk about a totally drug restant TB outbreak on the horizon in South Africa.
 
Morocco seems prime, along with swaziland in south africa If you are lucky you may stumble upon a grow. Tanzania also looks sick as fuck they have the Serengeti its some real shit man. Serengeti is probably one of my top place I want to see. I'm gonna see if i can get a job there in a couple years probably wont be able to get one, but it would be sick as fuck to work there.
 
Also, be prepared to spend an arm and a leg on a flight there. A CHEAP flight to Africa will run you $2,000+...
 
I'd say go for it. Uganda isn't terribly bad right now compared to what it could be. Just make sure you take all the normal security precautions (don't ask for trouble, carry some bribe money, etc etc). And of course be very aware about malaria and AIDS. Also Marburg. you do NOT want to get Marburg. although it's quite rare.
 
Even if you don't smoke, buy some cigarettes. A few cigarettes go a long, long way over there. I'd offer them to all my guides etc. and they instantly became your best friend.
 
I'd say you're a dick for promoting smoking, but I guess their life expectancies are low enough where smoking doesn't even matter for them
 
We were looking at Ghana at first, and flights there were around 1500. Same idea though its still expensive. But I want to travel the world for a living so this will be a good start.
 
Well, I'm either going to go into investigative journalism, or anthropology. The ultimate goal would be to work for a company like National Geographic, but that's way down the road haha.
 
The only way to make a living wage from what I understand in anthropology is to basically become a professor at a uni.
 
The only people I know who are anthropologists are long haired extremely socialist hippie women who's hair turns grey when they are 29 .
 
I've learned one of my anthro classes that there is a new field where international businesses are hiring anthropologists to help develop interpersonal relationships. But I don't really want that, so I'll probably just stick with the journalism.
 
Yeah western mining and oil companies like to hire anthropologists to figure out how they can better can land from and take advantage of the local people.

There are jobs, obviously some companies are less awful than others but a lot of anthropologists are turned away feom it and I get the sense that certain places are gaining distrust for anthropologists as a result
 
The guy wants to start his world travel experience with Uganda. He obviously doesn't know how to think logically.
 
Ive been to morocco, great place. Highly recommend going, make sure to take a ferry to spain while youre there!
 
Why does everyone always say that? Ignorant white rich kid? I don't get it. Africa is known for disease and war, and it is a fact that Kony is from there? Am I missing something?
 
Yeah he did, but they aren't always completely effective. Plus some strains of the virus are now immune to those shots and medications. He was also bitten about 30 times over the one night he didn't have a net.

 
Everything I've seen/heard has confirmed this. Even though it's just four days, the safari should be one of the highlights of my trip.

My next trip over I'm hoping to stay and do work in Zambia. So much more opportunity for rehab and conservation there.
 
One of my friends is going to school in Kenya, definitely some sketchy parts of any African country just be cautious and try not to be an idiot hahah
