Blew mine out in March and tore my meniscus. Got the MRI in early April. Got surgery a week later.
Make sure you find a good surgeon with an outstanding reputation. A buddy just got surgery on his elbow, he didn't shop around, and he's already paying for it.
As others have said, find a hobby. I picked up watercoloring a couple months back and its keeping me sane. Be ware that you're probably going to be emotionally needy too since your friends might be out doing fun stuff while you're stuck in bed possibly ruminating. Keep your mind strong by reading, learning. Don't let negative thoughts fester and keep the junk mental food to a minimum.
Go to PT even if it sucks the first week after surgery. Get your knee moving especially if your meniscus was damaged. Apparently scar tissue can build up and prevent smooth movement of your knee if your not constantly rehabing. I've done 90% of my PT at home - you don't need to go into a PT constantly to do the work, just gotta be disciplined.
Cheers homie, sorry your hurt.
