A Letter to My Former Priest

Powerful video. Hitchen's was a beast. However, I think a lot of his persecutions of religion tend to be based around conformational bias and very select upon what "evidences" he attacks. If you've read God Is Not Great, you'll have an idea of what i'm talking about

I disagree, in debates people always bring up the "good works" of religions and he never shies away from the subject.

I honestly havent seen any of his debates (link please?) but throughout God is Great it was a recurring issue in my eyes. His general blanket sweeps of the paradoxes and inaccuracy of the new testament as well as the old testament were exactly that; vague blanket sweeps.

Well, He still has not responded and I'm not so sure he ever will. This comes as a huge surprise because he actually knew me very well and we were friends.

I did when i first read the thread when you made it but I didn't recently and i forgot what it was about so now i realize that post is completely irrelevant and off topic.

Implying a Catholic priest is a career and has a family...hahaha

Part of his "job" is to talk to teenagers.

You lose.

Why would I take the time to write that to look smarter than a clergyman? I wrote it because this is an issue I care about and it appalled me that his homily got a standing ovation from a bunch of "Catholics". I posted it here because I wanted to here people's opinions. Quite frankly, yours sucks.

Yea, Im kinda confused by this thread. I think OP his confused with himself and is seeking guidance. OP, you should check out reddit.com/r/atheism, they will give you the response you were seeking with this letter. They eat this shit up

Whatever you say buddy, no matter how well I explain myself this will be your conclusion anyways, so I really just don't give a single fuck.

However, answer this. Should I have kept quiet or should I have stolen the fucking alter from Father Paul and preached to the church goers? Because those two choices seem to be what you think my only options should have been.

I took the time to write this because I find hypocrisy in the Catholic Church's various political involvements pretty disgusting, and really wanted to share ideas with someone from that side I have a personal relationship with.

Furthermore, I gave the opportunity for all of you to read the homily, so no, I didn't post it here to read people agreeing with me. I don't need that kind of reinforcement.

How was that? Do you get it?

If I were looking for praise, I would have. However, I just want opinion. Even criticism is good. It forces one to look at issues in a different light.

Update: I was told today by my mom that a few months ago, he actually did mention that I e-mailed him, and I wasn't the only one. However, he mentioned that he was impressed with me, and that I was the only one who signed their name. He apparently still disagrees with me on some stuff. Not a surprise, I just want a real response.

hmm....it wasn't worth your time to actually read the thing, but it's worth your time to reply to the thread multiple times offering worthless contributions that amount to: "Just wanted to let you know I'm not going to read this and wanted to waste my time telling you that you wasted your time".

Yeah, you're doing a great job.
