A bold move by M.I.A

I just watched her most recent music video "Free Born". I think it's a pretty crazy and controversial music video. I get the message about martial law and it makes you think. Your thoughts NS?

Yeah man, M.I.A is the only artist to talk about martial law, there so deep eh!If you want music to make you think, try looking farther than M.I.A bro.

not saying she is the only one, this was just the first music video i have seen like this. I mean how many music videos do you see where ginger kids get blown up in slo mo?

I hate the song, but the video is brilliantly done. I think it makes a very valid point in any case of discrimination. Plus the brutality that is portrayed hits hard, whether or not the whole "ginger" part of it does or not.

I would have appreciated it more if the song wasn't awful and if south park hadn't already done it.

by the way it's "born free"

A video more fucked up.
For real, beware

M.I.A. supports terrorist groups and she'll be the first to admit it. Watch her videos and you'll see tiger references in all of them. Also her song sunshowers, is promoting female suicide bombers.

That video was ridiculous!

I also just realized I don't like her music at all, I don't think I'm deep or complicated enough to like it haha

no one detected the sarcasm? i had a debate with someone because they told me that pirating her music supported terrorism and i lol'd in my pants.

she's about as outspoken as it gets but imo leave the politics outta music. one HUGE reason i started to hate green day.

I started to hate green day because they started just having terrible music and wearing eyeliner...

granted i agree with some of their politics, but SERIOUSLY stop going emo with everything for shitsake.

Don't tell me that Guyliner is a turn-off for you, Sean!

You know you like Alice Cooper and Kiss, among all the other guyliner-sporting man-bands.

a lot of music is political, or at least born off it, and i think it's a great medium to tell other sides of the story, and give people the understanding to look into not following a heard, and speaking out towards things. a lot of great bands are political. and as for green day, i bet your favorite album was warning, which wasn't any good anyways, which just proves, they're original intention may not have been political, but it definitely wasn't geared towards rich suburban kids either.

I thought that was fucking great, here is why:

I conveys a valid point. Think about it, what if that bus would have been full of Black guys or Mexicans? You would have though "Ya I could see that shit happening some day." The way things are going in this country, the hate an intolerance. But because its a made up race, Gingers, it is actually kind of funny at first. South Park pointed out how stupid humanity is and our constant quest to create cultural and ethnic devides between us by making up "Ginger Kids". I am not sure if they were first but that was the first place I heard it.

I remember in like 5th grade the teacher did an experiment, she said that everyone in the class who had blue eyes could go out to recess, kids with other colored eyes had to stay and clean the class room. Once back from recess the blue eyed kids were allowed to sit whever they wanted, then the teacher said that a new study came out that said blue eyed children were smarter and better at learning and they would be getting special treatement the rest of the school year. Of course as expected the blue eyed children all hung out the rest of the day while the other kids stayed together and started hating them. That experiment, like this video shows how arbitray our racial hatred is.

Black, ginger, mexican whatever, there are no real divedes between us, only what we create ourselves.

I also liked it because it was fucking crazy and Lady Gaga was not in it.

here's the experiment with school children you're referring to, it's part of a piece on the "5 steps to tyranny" I recommend watching the entire short film.

Alice Cooper is totally different... its not so much guyliner when youre trying to make yourself look like a zombie...

Kiss on the other hand... with all the bullshit that Gene Simmons has given the ski industry, I think I'll pass on rock and rolling all night long and partying every day with that lot of old farts...

I can't tell if they are trying to make a statement by the cops having American flags on their uniforms. But if so that is completely fucked.

Also, that is her new standard for a song? You have got to be joking me.

i swear to god i saw the weasley brothers in this video, they are sitting together wearing the same clothes!

All the indie kids in school thought they were awesome for talking about this. It's just an attention grabbing move to, well, get attention.
