63 mph

i have a speedometer app on my phone and today i set a new personal best of 63.62 MPH. I think this is pretty good.

Has anyone else on here done this and have a top speed? If you have an android phone, get the app called "speedometer" and try it. Im sure there is something like this for iphones too

wouldn't be shocked if i hit 50 a few weeks ago at stowe. i've hit 45 on a bike before. to me going fast is fun (especially on a bike) when you have to really keep er pinned and do work to maintain the speed. it's also just fun to go fast.

i once went a million miles and hour, but no i probably hit like 35-40 kinda hard to go supa fast on not steep trails like the ones on the east coast

haha he's never skied and has seen me hit rails and jumps and stuff so as far as he's concerned i'm a god on skis + he's a solid ass friend, so i wouldnt have to worry about it haha

oh shit really, i just made the assumption that it was an app and if you could run it on an iphone you could run it on an ipod touch but now that i think about it youre probably right..

looks like i'll have to try to get my dad's or other friend's iphone haha.. ive wanted to do this for so long though i gotta try to make it work

you can count on a thread if i get the chance

gotta love gaper friends. also, i'm always shocked more people's phones don't break, mine included considering how often i fall.

ive always been really impressed with ipod touchs'/iphones' durability and shit. the same friend lost said ipod touch in a snowy bush last year at a party doing drunk flips into it, we looked and couldnt find it cause of all the snow, waited til most the snow melted a few days later, found the ipod, and it worked fine..

assuming you're a half decent skier, i can't even fathom how your top speeds on a skateboard on skis could even be close to each other..

135 in my car56 on a bikeAnd I don't know on skies but it looks like I'm taking the GPS up tomorrow now...

I've been doing this for a while with my droid!

Except I use MyTracks. Get it, it's way more legit.

Anyways, fastest I've recorded is 53.8something on my 400 ft vertical hill at night in pretty icy conditions.

It's fun to try to keep topping yourself over and over

78 mph is my record but you have to take into account that it is only velocity on the x axis so if you count the y axis you are actually going faster

I really question the accuracy of those apps on peoples phones.
I have a friend who is probably as good as me show me how he hit 68 on a groomer at PC. Thats world cup speed.

I've heard that GPS and iPhone readings aren't necessarily all that accurate, but unless it's a ridiculous number, it's probably in the right general range. I rode a lift with some off-duty California Highway Patrol officers at Mammoth last year who were measuring speed with their radar guns. I got up to 61 MPH on my first run and was too scared to do it again.

You're going downhill, so you're moving horizontally and vertically. GPS only measures distance traveled in the x direction, not y. So let's say you go 3 miles vertically and 4 miles horizontally. Your actual distance is 5 miles but the GPS only counts 4. Since the time is the same, the GPS will think you're going slightly slower.

55mph on skis, 157 mph in a modified Saab Viggen, but for me doing 118 in my discovery was way scarier and stupid

The GPS on my droid is pretty accurate, it tracks your position to within 3 feet if you have good service, it also is similar (usually a bit under) to the speedometer on my car

nice!

now i just need to get on a decent hill.

but last spring in slush snow the ski patrol had a radar gun out and i hit 45mph. and that was BOMBED down the hill.

i honestly dont think i could hit 63mph on my hill. but ill post back on saturday after giving this app a try.

If I were to make an app that did this, worked all day, picked your top speed of the day, then you could post bragging rights and it was ski related, would anyone buy it?

I use MyTracks for hiking and the speed is never accurate for me. It said I was averaging 23 mph hiking uphill.

max 2.99.

But there are already tons of skiing GPS apps. I guess the social integration would be pretty cool, it would be even cooler if it had a real time feed of your friends speeds. So during the day you could check friends top speeds from that morning, or on a particular run, etc. Would you make this for iPhone? I'm actually developing an iPhone game and am planning on releasing it soon.

hmm. its always consistent with my car speed. That's odd.

If you're hiking, the speed is far too slow to register so it kinda wigs out. Anything under like 2 mph gets weird.

Probably have hit around 65 on my gs skis and go around 30-40 in a coarse at my tiny mountain
