63 mph

hit 93kmph on a BMX, if you have ever been on a bmx at speed you will know thats scary as fuck haha. But this was followed by a car rather then done on a phone

Completely false. Consumer GPS devices are more accurate with respect to velocity than position, especially at high speeds. Velocity measurements within 0.1m/s (~0.2mph) of actual are commonplace, whereas a position measurement within 1m is good. Velocity measurements are taken from the time it takes a GPS receiver to get from one track point to another, and although there is some error in position data, the effect of this in the overall speed calculation diminishes as the track points become farther apart within a given time interval (as you go faster).

oh i wasnt doubting you really, or implying you were on a tiny skateboard or whatever, just saying, it's soo much easier to stop/ditch speed on skis (not to mention safer if you crash)

but yeah im fathoming the fuck out of it now

don't have a fancy number or anything, but last year at panorama i skied about 1/4 the mountain without slowing and got so fast that my stiffest skis couldn't stop me, turned to noodles under my feet. one of the most fun things i've done skiing, but probably wouldn't do it again without race skis

I hit 87 with the iphone app at jackson hole. we didn't think it was working right so we turned it on in the car and it was right on. And it was first run of the day on a groomer with a buddy of mine trying to get a lap in before he had to work so we straight lined it down.

Tried to go as fast as I can at Kitzbuhel on the Hahnenkamm world cup piste a week after the world cup race so it was still icy on twin tips and I hit a compression my legs buckleled, went airbourne and double ejected and landed on my face and broke my nose too!

I would love to clock my speed on skis.... don't have the tech though. On a bike I have done 258 km/h (160 mph). I bitch out and let off the throttle too...

I've been 138mph on skis - Did it at world championships back in 1999. I have also crashed and been clocked at 120mph. For what its worth the speed trap is 100 metres long and when I fell I was above the trap and the speed came out at 195kmh I was hauling ass was most likely doing close to 145 when I went down. I was completely concussed and was purple over about 40% of my body from the friction burns. No claim...truf. In fact I still have all of my equipment if any one is in PC and wants to strap on some 240cm speed skis skis gimme a shout

been over 300 kmph on a zx10. dont know about skis tho because my home mountain(old garbage pile) is only about 300 vertical feet. not much speed there haha

terminal velocity is how fast something will get moving under the force of gravity.when a body falls it gets up to 120mph.that being said with a ski slope obviously itll get cookin faster then that.

shut up, it's about drag as much as it is about gravity. The slope doesn't have anything to do with it, in fact it's slower than a freefall.

lol sir. dont want to get into a pissing contest but its truf. Do your homework b4 calling some one out. Ive got several hundred official runs over 120mph

145ish in a car
35ish on a longboard
I have no idea how fast I've gone on skis but I pretty much just straight line everything so I imagine pretty fast. Someone should go straight line Cornice at Mammoth for me and see how fast they go, so I can find out.
I always imagined you didn't go very fast on skis, because 35mph on a longboard seems so stupidly fast, and because Simon Dumont only clocked in at something like 50 when he was doing that giant quarterpipe and getting towed in.

im pretty sure an iphone isn't the most accurate reading...i guess test it in a car. but then you have to take into account the slope...

i have a hard time believing that 60mph is possible on park skis that have torn up bases and edges from rails, not to mention those aerodynamic clothes we all wear...60mph on skis is so fucking fast, its pretty hard just to get up to that speed.

I checked mine against my car and its was on point. Did 60 at Canyons today on warm snow and One Lifes. Same run couple days ago on my park skis was waaay faster but this thread just turned me on to the app.

not true my skydiving altimeter said i hit 220 MPH but that was going head first. you are right that most people doing a tandem skydive hit 120 MPH for terminal velocity though but that is based on drag and how fat you are

Sorry bud, but you're wrong on this one. You accelerate in the vertical direction slower than you would in a free-fall, but your speed is still increasing nonetheless (net >> vert).
Also, to whomever said terminal velocity is XXXmph... terminal velocity changes with your drag profile as well as air density. You reach it when the force of drag (slowing you down) equals the force of gravity (causing you to accelerate toward the ground). So if you're going headfirst or spread out is going to have a major effect on your speed. But if you're at a very high altitude where air density is low, you could go a lot faster than your standard 13 - 18k jump. Check out the Red Bull Stratos site for mind blowing info on a jump they are planning:http://www.redbull.com/cs/Satellite/en_INT/Article/Risingtoachallenge--RedBullStratosArticles--RedBull-021242810648654

in my old car I was clocked at 158 at Road Atlanta just driving around and on the way home from my local hill I was car certified to 169 and my vbox read out 167
current car ive done about 145 with a lot more room to go
fastest I have ever been in a car however was either 175 in a 650 awhp gt3000 or 170+ in my neighbors z06 with spray

on skis I have no idea

i think this is wrong. my phone can tell my starting and ending altitude, and its very accurate(11,518ft for the top of e chair at breck, 9,609ft for the village). pretty sure gps systems use more than one satallite at a time, so they can measure distance in the x and the y.

i wrote that as a potential speed, my friend was clocked at 88 back when he was like 120 lbs though and used to race, i havent done it wih a gun thoug
