284,000 College grads making minimum wage.

I have a job as well. You never asked about my job, only commented on "student housing", ergo, I only commented in refutation of the assertion that I live on campus (which is not a bad thing in and of itself). Do you feel overburdened by the amount of senior privilege you seem to feel you have? Why can't a younger person with less experience maintain a correct world-view in contrast to his/her peers?

I'd say the same to you are clearly older than me, and still arguing with randoms on the internet about things that don't affect you.

You do realize that I had to have prerequisites for every class that I took?

I had math majors in some of my classes(that were in the math department). It's not like I have an "engineering" version of all of these classes.

I'm not telling you how to internet to find the literature needed for these classes. I've also been out of school for 4+ years. Books change quite often.

Relevant for everyone in this thread.

If you give us a university and a number for the class (e.g. Math 5210), then we can look up the syllabus for the class, which is generally publicly available.

Cool! What real world applications are you working on?

You have made serious posts. You suck at life. Perhaps you SHOULD take some communication courses, you need them.

The real world applications I chose to supplement the theoretical stuffs were probability theory, differential equations (ordinary and partial), and nonlinear and dynamical systems. My main is to be topology and (hopefully) alg. geo.. They were not serious posts. I'm pretty sure I pulled every one of those stats out of my ass and even got PolarPeak to ragequit the thread.

If you actually visited the site I posted, ya know the one you fucking quoted you know the class numbers are right there.

I don't have the patience to teach some jerk off how to browse websites for readily available information they seek.

They didn't teach you to internet in advanced theoretical equations?

BY GOD JEEVES! WHAT AN OUTRAGE!

You'd figure that at least SOME of your blockman skills you acquired from your TI-92 would transfer to web browsing.

I deeply apologize for this comment. I remember correctly now that blockman was only available on certain models. TI-92 not being one of them.

Lol... No I asked but you only stated being a student.

I never judge based on age. I judge based on character and content and in that respect you're severely lacking. If the shit you posted was accurate of your feelings, you're a fucking douche. If you're trolling and just out to piss people off, well then you're still a douche. Congrats I guess??

Ah I see, the one way up there, not the atlantic post. I was confused. Anyway, yes, your thermodynamics class was nowhere near complete. 1st and second laws only, no stochastics, no mention of ordered systems, base requirement of Physics for engies II and engie stats. Not much to speak of.

Did I hurt your feelings in some way that encourages you to act like this? I've been nothing but civil with you. I don't mention impertinent information because it's exactly that. And you're really flying off the handle because of someone hurting your fee-fee's on the internet? How old are you? I wouldn't trust my kids with someone like you.

Oh right, thanks for the reminder that getting a VERY specific degree in something is doesn't minimize your opportunities.

Remind me again what the job placement is for somebody who majored in math VS engineering?

I seem to constantly forget that while I might be in the top 1/10% percent of knowledge on thermo compared to the rest of the world that I'm completely worthless because I didn't get my fucking post doc in it.

I'm continually impressed by your knowledge on life.

Allow me to scrutinize your worthless(with regards to real world applications) degree by posting your class requirements for YOUR math degree.

Well that certainly wasn't the only class you took then, wasn't it? Misleading bear that you are. I fail to see how you managed to become top .1% of all thermodynamicists without understanding the construction of probabilistic models which is dependent on a thorough knowledge of points-free topology :(

wowza! this is getting heated.

I went to college and majored in history. I paint houses in the summer; work as a freelance writer, and brand ambassador; judge park and pipe competitions; and ski five days a week. Yeah, i'm living contract to contract and make a lot less than the average person. But i get to travel, ski in new and exciting places, and live my life on my own terms. Sounds like i'm really fucking up, right?

There's nothing wrong with having fun and doing what makes you happy. Hell, most of our parents did similar things post-college. My mom was a waitress for five years, and my dad worked construction, for a moving company, and was a farmhand in italy (while playing semi-pro basketball...long story). They went on to have "normal" "career-oriented" jobs later in life.

There's no need to rush into "life", get a job and make money -- right away. Besides, many career oriented jobs come with such a base level salary, you'd be better off waiting tables anyway. Yeah, you might get a decent check every week, but if you broke down pay to the hourly level, you'd probably be making LESS than minimum wage.

I guess my point is, I -- like many other college graduates -- don't care about how much money is in the bank. If i can do what i want, when i want, and still have enough money to pay rent and stay fed, I'd say i'm pretty successful. When you're forty and busting your ass for your 32 year year old boss who's had one job in his entire life, at least you'll know that there was a time when you had few responsibilities, a whole lot of fun, and got more out of life than Joe-Schmo who has been an accountant since his 22nd birthday.

Yes there is. You live in society and everyone has to pull their weight. You are clearly not, yet you still abuse my tax dollars. I want them back. Now.

i'm not surprised, i don't know why anybody would be. i've worked for billionaires who've told me they wouldn't hire somebody based on their college degree, those are a dime a dozen and school has never given anybody an ounce of real-world experience. my mother never went to college and she's one of the most well-known and respected and desired people in her industry (petroleum production accounting), and she occasionally teaches college and university students, and has to turn them away constantly when they ask her for a job because a degree is hardly a qualification in her line of work (lots of dumbasses with degrees in the energy sector). it is really funny to see how hard a college grad will try to get a job though, i wish i could show you guys some of the cover letters and gifts she gets from students she's taught, it makes you almost feel bad for them.

i know more people who landed their dream job (in any industry) simply through connections and good luck rather than through school and hard work, it's a sad fact but it's a fact.

Yes. People don't seem to understand that the supposed "apprenticeship"-styled course curriculum for most universities is wholly inadequate when it comes to applied fields, which tends more towards craft than academia.

all i meant was many salaried office positions require working 15/17 hours a day on a salary that's adjusted for a 40 hour work week.

I'm thinking about the kids slaving away 70,80+ a week and still getting paid a salary that is based on a 40 hour week.

Now, translate that to those that are working similar hours at an hourly wage...

but whatever. I'll just go back to minding my own business, "freeloading" off of other peoples tax dollars(?) and, contributing nothing to society.
