2014/2015 gear thread

Luckily for your opinion, we have SCIENCE. It's all about surface area, but I will hit you with the plainest way I can think of expressing it.

Imagine your ski is a butter knife, and the snow is butter. You press the knife flat against the butter, can it cut? No. Now angle your knife the slightest bit (mimicking your ski on edge) can you cut? Yes. That's because your knife doesn't float.

Now go get a spoon, and try the same thing. You would need the human equivalent of a metric fuckton of weight to prevent that spoon from floating about the pow, or a retardedly high edge angle.

Now, I do think Atomic took the wrong route when trying to expand their tip's surface area. Do not use the sidewalls and turn them into the base. That sounds like a horrid idea from a durability standpoint. Especially if it is soft ABS. But hey, if that's the technology it takes to mass produce a ski of this kind, at a reasonable price point, then so be it.

But DPS has the spoon technology down to an art, as they do everything else...

***Disclaimer: I am not saying DPS doesn't have a reasonable price point, you get what you pay for.***

Oh, and if anyone has done well in terms of covering SIA this year it has been SBC Skier. They're doing Canada well.

O'Neill's outerwear is looking good, they've been killing it. Glad to see them holding it down for QC.

They show a few other offerings on the page, hopefully there are a few more to come that are somewhat reminiscent of this season's lineup.

G3 ION, kind of a shitty picture, something nonetheless:

Back to Orage... again, the god aweful B-Dog for this year:

The M-89, looks very nice but maybe a little heavy on the streetwear look for my taste:

The Sarg, that jacket Andy has been wearing, I dig but I think its a shell:

This one blows me away, a women's jacket designed by Tatum Monod herself:

That girl has taste, shit looks so good. If I knew it had no obvious lady text or lady fit to it, I'd wear it and tell noone... Please, give her some leash on the men's side for next year.

Backing away from the fashion show, Volkl's V-Werks skis look good. I haven't heard in an AMAZING weight reduction, but a solid swing weight reduction at the least:

Hopefully they decided to use the same baseplate/hole pattern as the current STH2 toepiece (same pattern as the old driver toe and a dickload of older solly series I'm too young to be knowledgeable on)

There's loads more in those links I posted up at the top. Those are just some personal favorites and highlights, hopefully to generate some discussion.

Meh, I just was not very excited once I got the ski after watching the video on it. To me it just seemed a sham. I didn't see why they just made tips thinner to remove weight . But you seem to know your Shit however. I will try to use em tomorrow then back to you.

Also out of all the goggles at sia the anon m1 or 2 took the cake for me. Best Google I saw the whole day and the magnetic lens change was the fastist to change by far ( this lens change thing seemed to be a big selling point for all the brands). Best lens goes to the Dragon Nike colab. The lens changes when exposed to sun or shade stuff was tight shame the goggles were ugly as hell

The warden actually uses a slightly differnt hole patern for the toe. The heel is the same and there willbe no problems adding the new holes for the toes from the old holes.

Anyone see the new Jiberish hoodie they posted on their instagram? It's pretty simple, Jiberish written in gotchic print and the address of one of their stores I believe. Someone post a pic, I'm on mobile

really? I guess I didn't see the atomic guys bring a separate jig when they mounted a few pairs in the shop I work at... I figured they used the sth2 jig which is why I thought that! hah

got to ski the kartel 98 today, it is by far the softest on3p I've ever ski'd but hot damn it's buttery. I wasn't even able to ski the 18* (forgot what that size was) and only got to try the 176 but even that length/flex held up hauling ass down groomers.

I also hadn't actually tried the shreditor 112 until today and it's definitely gonna be a contender to replace my blogs next season considering the blog is being discontinued... the automatic 109 sucks ass haha it was basically a softer atlas which was never a ski I enjoyed...

Can you compare the flex to any other ski? Also do you know if the wider version of the Kartel has the same flex or is it stiffer? Thanks.

Yes, there is a new fks 120 in black. No confirmation is needed actually as it's already on getboards :)Not sure about any other colour.

I was unable to ski the wider kartel, they were out every time I tried to get on em. But from just flexing them by hand they felt pretty similar to the 98. Sorry I can't get super specific, two runs on a ski only gives you small taste albeit a decent one. I wouldn't know what exactly to compare it to, felt really stable underfoot at speed but could initiate a butter (at speed) so easily it felt great.

Hold the fuck up... There is no reason for them to put two sets of the same bindings side by side regardless of how sexy and awesome of a binding they are. That would just be redundant and stupid.

So with that reasoning, is one set of those bindings perhaps a revival of the beloved P15/FKS155 with the full drive toe?

Sort of, basically they put the P18/FKS180 driver toe on the P14/FKS140 and put the toe that's currently on the P14/FKS140 on the P12/FKS120.

So yeah, it's basically is the old P15/FKS150, but it's a 14 DIN instead of a 15.

It could be the same binding with Different brake lengths maybe?

That would be amazing if they bring back that binding though. The white looks so good though. Unless Rossi makes a better color (unlikely) I'm getting these instead.

Ok yeah, on SBC skier's website it says the pivot 12 is the one to the right. So HOPEFULLY the pair in the middle are like a 14 or 15 DIN binding. I would be soooo happy.

Keeping my STH2's will now be a tough choice because I like the binding. Only shitty thing is insert mounting them because of the toe's baseplate re-design... Regardless I'll have a set of those P14's mounted up as my main binding forsure.

Along with your new Drop Kicks.

Also relevant as to why a lower DIN pivot with the metal toe needed to be brought back.

Dayum.

as far as i understand they are meant to do that, that is what 3 shops told me when i asked cause it happend to my px12's and pivot 14's adn my buddies axial 120

I really wish this...but it looks like they are both 18's, just with different size brakes. If you look at the toe piece, you can kinda make out the 18 on both sets. So the photo shows 18, 18, 12.

The source I heard it from was a shop guy...but he has been wrong in the past (not often, but it happens...usually when he's been drinking at trade shows...haha), so don't hold me to it. Maybe someone who was at SIA can confirm?

O'Neill is so on point, this pullover makes me so stoked to buy it, it reminds me of bedsheets at my grandmas spare room. Really nostalgic and tasteful, beautiful jacket. I might have to get this
